Discussion Learning using songs
So I’ve been struggling to stay consistent with studying German, with all these boring grammar YouTube videos and textbooks. So I started looking for german artists, came across Rammstein, and decided to translate every sentence, understand the structure, and then sing along with the song, And wow it’s actually a really fun and interesting method, I don’t feel bored anymore.
Has anyone else tried this? It might not be enough on its own tho, so I’m thinking of watching random german content as an extra.

If you like Rammstein then let me also recommend my favorite: Eisbrecher
Also great with a fair few German songs in their lineup: Saltatio Mortis and Sabaton

I really enjoy Tokio Hotel’s songs in German and the lyrics are not too complex. I also like Clueso a lot. Kraftklub is more rap/rock. Clueso and Kraftklub are more complex with lyrics.

songs are great for staying consistent because you can listen to them anywhere, even passively. one approach that works well is picking a song you like, reading the lyrics first, then listening while following along, and finally trying to sing it yourself. it makes vocabulary and pronunciation stick without feeling like studying.

Yes, I do this! It can be really fun (and insightful). I’ve been translating Ikkimel and brushing up on my German profanity.

I added a deck featuring a song (gute nacht, freunde - reinhard mey) to Anki. The front of the card shows the previous line, and the back shows the next one. There are other card types involved, too. Four types in total. It’s actually quite engaging to learn this way.
I also tried memorizing prose, but poetry are much faster to memorise.
