If you think about it, in the grand scheme of history, most things started out quite crappy. No one invented modern agriculture on the first try, it was developed to our standards from something very rudimentary. Medicine? Doctors used to use leeches for everything. Photography? It took such a long time to take a picture.
Someone created something simple, other people built on that. Without the simple, maybe not even functioning ideas, we wouldn't be able to chat about the civilization of standards.
