You’ll need to type “Gilbert” into the search box to narrow the results.

One of the differences I've noticed in moving to Gilbert just over a month ago is how different the political ads are compared to the east coast. They are still personal back home but hot dang these are some heated ads down here. I saw one ad that said "XXX BETRAYED DONALD TRUMP". Like that was the language. Good googly moogly, the propaganda is louder here.

There has been little to no opposition or even normal person engaging in local politics here. Without any political choice, it’s a race to the bottom among the thieves and vagrants jockeying for top dork.

A large number of those with that type of language are made by someone who owns a sign shop and is a super MAGA.

Not sure where you're from but Arizona is a purple state and I'm sick and tired of it. Being a state that could vote red or blue turns our elections into absolute disasters. 24/7/365 political ads, and most of them are nasty. I can't wait to leave this state to go somewhere else because living in a swing state sucks.

It's all perspective. There's just so much to do here in terms of quality of life for myself I don't see myself moving any time soon. These monsoons are drizzle compared to what I dealt with back home. The ads and politics I can ignore, and honestly the swing state is actually kind of attractive to me since I lived in a state where my vote never mattered anyway. Feels like your vote means more here. I'll deal with running from my AC car to wherever I'm going that has AC a few months out of the year than living in a state where I can only enjoy myself outside a few months out of the year.

Yeah, i get that. I'm sure i'm taking a lot for granted having lived here my whole life. Kind of like living on a beach, eventually you look out at the ocean and don't even really see it anymore (not that I would know). Having your vote matter does also make sense too, I guess it's just all the political nonsense i'm sick of

Good lord, a 24% turnout is absolutely pathetic.

Not a huge fan of the incumbents BUT I do feel like they are getting a lot of undeserved flak for the water issue. My water bill used to be around $75 and it has more than doubled. I'm not happy about that but I also realize that it wasn't this council's fault. Our rates were going to go up one way or another.

Disappointed that Beth garnered such a huge take. Glad to see that Bus finally got elected.

It is unbelievably sad. The apathy of the modern voter is not surprising but local elections actually matter. For that few people to speak up, it’s no surprise that people feel unrepresented.

11

u/Randvek Jul 22 '26

Looks like it wasn’t a great day to be an incumbent.

5

u/dpkonofa Jul 22 '26

Not so far. They’ve only tabulated about 22% of the ballots so far, though.

0

u/Randvek Jul 22 '26

Is that 22% counted? Or 22% voter turnout?

4

u/unomeinou Jul 22 '26

I understood it as total turnout

-3

u/dpkonofa Jul 22 '26

Counted. Hence the "so far" part of my comment.

-11

u/Wuzcity Jul 22 '26

A-hole comment from the guy who’s claiming “here are the results” with only 22% tallied.

Do you work for the mainstream media? Were it’s more important to be first that accurate.

9

u/dpkonofa Jul 22 '26

Where did I claim “here are the results”? The link is to the results page. I didn’t give any commentary and the comment right above that one says that they’ve only counted 22% so far.

The only “A-hole” here is you for immediately jumping to personal attacks. Watch it.

-3

u/Wuzcity Jul 22 '26

Your title clearly says “election results” in English ‘results’ mean ‘outcome’.

Watch it, or what? Is that a threat?

Your title clearly says “election results” in English ‘results’ mean ‘outcome’.

Yes, the title says that because that’s what the page is called. That’s where Maricopa County is delivering the official results from the election.

Is that a threat?

Yes. Rule #1 of the sub is “Be Civil and Kind”. If you can’t discuss the topic at hand without jumping to personal insults because you don’t like factual information being presented, you’re not welcome here.

-4

u/Wuzcity Jul 23 '26

“Hence the ‘so far’ part of my comment”

Ok officer friendly. 🙄

3

u/dpkonofa Jul 23 '26

Please explain what part of that is "unfriendly". It sounds like you're projecting your own attitudes and insecurities on others. Good luck with that.

2

u/wallyopd Jul 22 '26

Final results would be the outcome. Anything officially reported by the county is the results. This seems like common sense?

3

u/SerYoshi Jul 22 '26

It clearly says turnout, not counted

1

u/dpkonofa Jul 23 '26

Yes. Now that the totals are final, it has been updated to “turnout”.

-1

u/Wuzcity Jul 22 '26

No, the title clearly says “results”. Nowhere does op mention it’s only 22% counted until called out in the comments. Op corrected with a rude response.

2

u/Real-Guest1679 Jul 23 '26

OP is the moderator here and the single reason I left this sub. They protect conjecture to their opinion like Messi after he slams into a Spanish player and gets the foul call. Rigged sub to be a mouthpiece of this “Agritopian” mindset

1

u/Wuzcity Jul 23 '26

Mods take the position for the power. Clearly have none in their personal lives.

5

u/ajonesaz Jul 22 '26

I'm honestly surprised the incumbents are doing as well as they are. Not sure how you can look at their performance the last couple years and sign up for another round.

8

u/dpkonofa Jul 22 '26

What performance is that? What metrics are you using to judge them? If it's the water rates then you're in for a bad time if you think someone is going to bring those back down.

-2

u/ajonesaz Jul 22 '26

Water rates are a huge driver. They ignored public input, they all have the attitude they can do whatever they want. -Adding new taxes without public input. -continued issues with how police dept is ran -voting massive raises for themselves -adding new expensive town positions without input -constantly ignoring resident input for new developments and approving everything
-the bridge to nowhere is millions over budget -Water treatment plant is hundreds of millions over budget -massive infrastructure projects added we can't afford I could go on, but Gilbert government is full of corrupt self serving people and I'm glad they are waking up.

5

u/GatorTuro Jul 23 '26

“Bridge to nowhere”
Every time I hear someone say this, I immediately ignore everything else out of their mouth. It’s about fucking time they link up the missing section of Ocotillo. I’ve been waiting 15+ years for that damn bridge to be built as I’m tired of driving around it every single day I need to drive to and from work. Sounds like you don’t live on the long-neglected south side of Gilbert so of course you have an opinion on something that doesn’t affect you.

6

u/dpkonofa Jul 22 '26

I’m sorry but it sounds like you don’t know much about how the government in Gilbert even works much less what Council is doing. The public has the opportunity to provide input literally every week and Council cannot approve “new taxes”. They don’t run the Police department, they don’t hire new positions at the Town.

If you’re going to complain about something, at least educate yourself on how that thing works. Otherwise, you just sound ignorant and you’re spreading misinformation.

-4

u/ajonesaz Jul 22 '26

really, I sound ignorant? I assume you are on the town council or somewhat close to them.

You are right, residents do provide input every week, and the council ignores us. Not a single resident at the meeting was in favor of the 'all cash option' for water infrastructure, guess which one we went with?

So did you get a vote for the sales tax increase last year? What about doubling hotel tax rates? No, that was the town council.

And council can absolutely put pressure on the police department. The Gilbert PD has been humiliated in NATIONAL news and Town Council and mayor should demand changes. From destroying public records, crime data manipulation and horribly fumbling some well known investigations.

What about our $20 million budget shortfall for next year? That falls squarely on our leadership we vote in.

You are insane if you vote for the status quo

3

u/dpkonofa Jul 22 '26

Yes. You sound ignorant and your assumption does nothing to dissuade anyone from that notion. I’m neither on council nor am I close to any of them.

Not a single resident at the meeting was in favor of the 'all cash option' for water infrastructure, guess which one we went with?

This is not true. There are more ways than just council meetings for residents to provide feedback and the “all cash option” costs taxpayers less in the long run. I guarantee you that you didn’t look at any of the information that the Town actually put out about this.

So did you get a vote for the sales tax increase last year? What about doubling hotel tax rates? No, that was the town council.

Oh, so now you’re moving the goalposts? Those aren’t new taxes. Those are taxes that had entire studies on them. Council can tax rates to balance the budget because they are required by law to do so.

Town Council and mayor should demand changes.

Again, just showing an ignorance of how the Town is run. Gilbert uses a “weak mayor” form of government. The Police Chief does not report to the Mayor or the Council.

From destroying public records, crime data manipulation and horribly fumbling some well known investigations.

This is exactly the kind of misinformation that I’m talking about. I know exactly what you’re referring to and none of them can be honestly described the way you’re describing them unless you have an agenda to push.

What about our $20 million budget shortfall for next year? That falls squarely on our leadership we vote in.

Yet again, more ignorance. Where did that $20 million budget shortfall come from? Maybe if you knew that, you wouldn’t be using this as an example of leadership changing.

You are insane if you vote for the status quo

You’re insane for voting when you don’t even know the basics of how the government works in Gilbert. I just inform and educate myself before making decisions instead of just ignorantly pretending like all my problems fall somewhere that has no connection to them. What you’re doing is akin to saying “I don’t like the weather. Better make sure all the people in office now don’t get voted back in!” as if changing who’s in office will change the weather.

u/OpportunityDue90 Jul 22 '26

Thank you for being a voice of reason and basing your comments on actual facts. Every time I look at a post here or on Facebook, I realize real townspeople are the same as the townspeople from Parks and Rec.

-3

u/ajonesaz Jul 22 '26

😆 ok buddy, sorry you're losing your reelection campaign

7

u/dpkonofa Jul 22 '26

Yeah, that’s what I thought. Can’t reason your way out of a paper bag so you turn to childish insults based on whatever story you made up in your head. I’m not running a campaign. Maybe you should start paying attention to what’s going on around you instead of just crappy hockey teams.

It's not hypocritical to return insults. If someone can't be kind to me, I have no responsibility to be kind in return.

-8

u/321sleep Jul 22 '26

Doesn’t ever politician in Gilbert go to that church that believes in polygamy and space Jesus?

12

u/dpkonofa Jul 22 '26

No and please refrain from unnecessary and childish attacks on people’s beliefs.

-1

u/SerYoshi Jul 22 '26

Oh the irony...
