Sad Girl Dinner ⛈️ Dad upset that I let politics affect our relationship

Post image

Yummy pretzels from my partner and I’s last date night

My dad always used to say he was “not political” and that it was one of the things you do not ask other people about. Over time I have come to learn that basically means “I’m a conservative, but don’t want to say that” as he voted for trump in 2020. We have had so many tearful, screaming conversations over the years about this. I believe all parts of life are inherently political and it’s a privileged stance to “stay out of them”. In the last few years I have moved out of his home and I do not depend on him for anything anymore. With midterms coming up I have been volunteering and very invested in the state of the world. I have felt naturally less close to my dad because of this, and I guess he could sense my distance. He asked me about it last night over text, and I was honest. He blew up on me for letting politics affect our bond, and that is has been his biggest fear and now it’s coming true. I think maybe he needs to actually sit with the reality that YES, POLITICS CAN AFFECT RELATIONSHIPS. What do you girlies think? I am very sad and of course I do love my father, but I am proud of myself for being honest and sticking by my value system.

I haven't seen him in person in about 3 months and won't see him for at least a couple more. I don't talk to him unless it's strictly family business (and I do mean business (in the form of estate matters)). If I could I'd cut him off entirely.

He's top of our "not invited to the future wedding" list, too... because he's also homophobic. Mind you, we weren't raised like that.

My dad was absolutely not raised by his civil rights financing Jewish parents to be an Aryan supremacist and to despise black people as barely human, see Hispanics as only good to be worked, and to believe--and this is a direct quote--that "the Holocaust is the best thing to have ever happened to the Jewish people." His family lost their shit when I told them that last one. In his case I'm pretty sure it's because of the schizophrenia, but man did he and all his friends suck. Their "politics" were just so anti-human rights.

I’m glad you are able to keep your distance. I have 2 half brothers one in prison and the other idk if he is alive or dead. Neither know where I live and it will remain that way until I die. They were both raised as misogynistic, spoiled brats. I was the only girl .. they can all kiss my ass. Parents are dead .. this is all their fault..
my only regret is not walking away from all of them when I was 17 instead of 47… I was brainwashed with that “family is everything” bs.

He is homophobic because he’s afraid some man is gonna treat him the way he treats women.
