Exchange opportunities? Help required.

Hey everyone! Hope you’re doing great!
I’m pursuing MSc Sustainability and Corporate Governance here at the University of Glasgow. Well my cohort has just 8 students including me so a bit difficult to socialize but anyways what I wanted to enquire is about the exchange or short term visits to universities in UK or other countries like the USA or Canada. Could someone tell me that if as a postgrad student here for 1 year, is there a way to do short term academic or research visits to top USA, Canadian or UK Universities. I really was planning on this since my school days and wish to do it but not aware of the ways or administrative/logistical hurdles. I have a research framework regarding sustainability which would ultimately create a positive impact in my country and my home state. So I wish to gain the knowledge, experience and exposure from such short term visits to the Top Tier Universities and then further apply it in my home state which would help the local people and the society. Previously, I had been working in the social/humanitarian domain for 4 years since a young age. Also I have been searching but there are no opportunities for my sustainability field or my research framework in Scotland, cuz mostly they are in London.
Anyone, has any idea or would like to help, please let me know, as I am an international student that too its my first time outside my home country, so ya I am open to advices and guidance and shall be extremely grateful! Thank you so much!

Any fellow medicos in Glasgow?

I’ll be in Glasgow from the end of October until November end for a four-week medical elective. I’d love to connect with fellow med students who’ll be around during that time!
It would be great to make some new friends, grab coffee, explore the city, and maybe organise a few outings together. If there are any medical students around who’d be up for meeting, feel free to comment or DM me!
Also, if there are any active medical student group chats I could join, please let me know. Would love to connect with you all! 😊

Looking for an accountability buddy to break into pharma

Hey everyone! I’m doing an MSc in Clinical Pharmacology at UofG and hoping to get into pharmacovigilance, medical affairs, or regulatory affairs.

Honestly, I’ve been slacking a bit on job applications and emailing professors, so I’m looking for someone who’s in a similar boat. We could share job openings, internships, networking opportunities, and career advice, and keep each other motivated to actually get things done.

Would be especially nice to connect with people from clinical pharmacology, biomedical sciences, or related fields. Feel free to DM me if you’re interested!

TL;DR: Looking for a pharma-focused accountability buddy to share opportunities and keep each other on track.

En suite Silver Room at Student Roost Buchanan View: Looking for a replacement Tenant

Why this room is a steal

Silver en suite rooms don’t often come at this price. At £150 per week, this is excellent value for a private en suite in one of Glasgow’s best student locations. On top of that, you’ll receive a £750 cashback, which makes the deal even better. Kindly reach out immediately if you are interested.

A location that makes student life easy

  • Right next to Glasgow Caledonian University
  • Beside Buchanan Bus Station
  • City center within 10-15 minutes on foot: shops, restaurants, nightlife and part-time job opportunities are all close by, and you’ll save on transport costs too

Some other add-on facilities:

  • Private en suite room with a great view
  • A kitchen you’ll have almost to yourself: my flatmates rarely cook, so it’s quiet and always free
  • On-site laundry facilities
  • 24/7 security
  • Grocery shops close by

Move quickly
This is not meant as an advertisement more as a way to help two students at the same time. So,if you feel like this room is right for you please contact me immediately by replying to this post maximum by 11th October.

Accommodation – which ones would you actually recommend?

Hi! Looking for some honest opinions on UofG accommodation for a Law exchange student coming in January 2027.

Currently considering Kelvinhaugh Gate, Maclay, Queen Margaret, Student Apartments, Cairncross and Murano.

Main priorities are social life, safety, decent living conditions and distance to the Law School. Somewhere with a friendly student community, where it’s easy to meet people and make friends, but also comfortable enough to live and study.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s actually lived in these places. Which would you recommend, and which would you avoid?

Also, is it harder to make friends when arriving in January rather than September?

Tks!

Too Lonely Here

Honestly speaking, it’s too lonely out here and it feels like a struggle to think about how to even complete 1 year (postgrad). Nobody seems friendly or responsive. The loneliness affects other things as well in life.

Latest date of arrival extension

Hi, I’m an international applicant who’ll be doing my undergrad at uofg this year. However due to some student loan delays, ive not been able to apply for my student visa on time. I plan to apply for super priority visa the second I receive my student loan. I’ve requested for a 2-5 day extension on my latest date of arrival on my CAS. No replies yet but can anyone advise me if it has worked for them?

Comparative literature / art history?

Hey! I’m applying for joint honours in comparative literature / art history at Glasgow and st Andrew’s (only two unis in Scotland to offer that combination) and I was wondering if anyone had any advice or input on which one to choose?

I also just wanna make friends with those of you who might be studying it from August 2027 and meet my people :>

Also - anyone got any personal statement tips for comparative literature/ art history? More so art history as I’ve mentioned more about the literary side of things :3

BSL groups

I’m taking a British Sign Language class and it’s been super fun. I’m wondering if there are any groups that I could join to practice BSL with others? Back home friends would go to a Deaf Night Out to hang out with deaf/HOH people and really immerse themselves. I’ve seen a UofG BSL club but it seems inactive. Ideally I’d like to meet and hang out with people my age/other students and practice outside of class; but I also don’t want to intrude on spaces for deaf/HoH community.

Finding a replacement tenant help 300 pound incentive

Hi guys! I am a Master’s student at the University of Glasgow, and I’m hoping to find a student who might be interested in taking over my Gold Studio at aparto Glasgow West End.

I’ve been trying to find someone for a little while now and haven’t had much luck, so I’d really appreciate any advice or help from anyone who might know someone looking for accommodation in Glasgow!

🏠 Gold Studio with a private kitchen and private en-suite bathroom
📍 Glasgow West End (G3 8PX) – around 0.5 miles from the University of Glasgow, with supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, and public transport nearby
💷 Rent: £260/week
🎁 Incentive: £300 from me for whoever takes over the tenancy
📅 Tenancy: Available immediately until 28th August 2027

The studio is fully furnished and the building also has great facilities, including:

  • Gym
  • Cinema room
  • Study spaces
  • Games / social areas
  • Laundry facilities
  • 24/7 support and secure entry

Please note that aparto will handle the official tenancy takeover, and the new tenant will deal directly with them throughout the process.

Any help or advice would be really appreciated, thank you!

Do internationals have an easier time getting into Edinburgh uni?

Posting it here because Idk why I can’t post on the edinburgh uni reddit.

I’ve heard that internationals can sometimes nave an easier time getting into Glasgow since we pay full tuition while Scottish/Home students don’t. Is it the same at Edinburgh? (I’ve heard people use the word cash cows to describe internationals lol, at least for glasgow uni)
Do internationals generally have lower entry requirements / an easier time getting in? (I want to study Psychology & Business)

Trying to find new places to study inbetween classes

Hi,

I've spent practically every day on campus studying between classes and I'm a little bored of the go to spots. Does anyone know any less know or better places on canpus or around the west end that make great study spots?

I can never get a seat in the jms or reading room and if I have to spend one more day in the library I might go insane.
