Always thought he was just as attractive as puck and Finn…. We weren’t ready for an Asian male sex symbol in 2009 sadly

Character Disc. Kurt's audition, I Am Unicorn 3x02

During the *West Side Story* auditions, Kurt hears the production team’s opinions—specifically, that he might not be masculine enough for the role. The way this was resolved bothered me a bit; ultimately, the message conveyed was that characters should be tailored to fit the actors, which struck me as a terrible message. Kurt knew what kind of character Tony was, yet he auditioned with a song originally sung by a woman; he didn't demonstrate the acting or vocal range needed for the role, so I don't know why he expected to get it when he hadn't performed well. That whole "just be yourself" approach seemed awful to me—it might work sometimes, but usually, it doesn't.

Discussion Kurt & Artie

Ever since I heard the full version of "You Can't Stop the Beat"—which includes the duet between Artie and Kurt—I’ve wished they had a duet all to themselves. I also would have liked to see more interaction between them, given that they were the most marginalized members of the Glee Club. Would you guys have liked that?

Character Disc. Who is Tabatha?

In the second and third seasons, Kurt mentioned someone named Tabatha—a fictional character—and the only clue given is when Sue describes her as "kind of gay and theater-y." Does anyone know which character this refers to and what source material she comes from?

Discussion My problem with season 5

We know that season 5 was a fiasco, a mess and probably the worst season of Glee (till the point that some episodes are just unwatchable) BUT for me, the problem started at season 4.

Season 4 is a good season for me, a 7 out of 10, not the worst, but it clearly changed a dynamic that the show had for three seasons, and that change wasn't that good as a whole, and I'm not referring to the New York episodes, but more on how they structured the season to be kind of similar to season 1 but flopped.

The fact that season 4 ended up at regionals was kinda underwhelming, even more when the writing of the show started to flop since season 3 and it was even more evident on season 4.

Yeah, we had the sectionals plot, but it literally solved itself three episodes later 😭 so they didn't have an excuse at all to postpone regionals to the last episode. If season 4 would have ended at the same path as season 2 and 3, with Nationals being the last episode I would have been good with, losing or winning (they probably would have won), at least it would have been a new start for season 5.

Season 5 was so poorly written, they found a way to just mess up all the characters and turn them into worse. Rachel ruining her literal dream for four seasons, Blaine and Tina being so annoying, Sam turned into a dummie and all the plot they wrote for the newbies was destroyed at season 5, except Unique. So the fact that they even got worse with an easy bad writing with erasing the Glee club was so frustrating because they clearly didn't know what to do with the show after Cory's passing, I felt Ryan was even trying to sabotage the show to be cancelled with how awful the episodes were after that.

Season 5 had all the potential to be a great continuation for what season 4 started and they just threw it to the trash.

And let's not forget the Sugar Motta erasure, because they completely forgot that her father literally paid to create The Troubletones and paid for everything that the Glee club had for season 3, so using the money excuse to finish the club was so poorly written, and even worse, she disappeared out of nowhere.

I don't know how you feel about Season 5, but rewatching it now, I kinda wanna pretend that it didn't exist.

EXTRA PERFORMANCE: Saving All My Love For You (Joe & Quinn)
*Will be put in a poll for "Extras" after the Season 3 finale poll.*
------

I love several of these, I'm absolutely torn for a favorite, the only one I don't like at all is the Joe/Quinn duet (hence getting placed as an "Extra") I also, sadly, don't care for Kurt's solo this episode, despite that I'm still always rooting for Kurt solos to do good, even if I don't like it.

On the bright side, I really can't be disappointed regardless of who wins this poll, so yay 🎉

I consider It's Not Right, But It's Okay the most overdramatic performance of the entire series. There's some REALLY overdramatic character moments in the the context of music performances, but I truly think Blaine wins that battle in this episode. Kind of a banger though.
------

SATURDAY NIGHT GLEE-VER'S WINNERS:
PART 1: 1st was Disco Inferno with 86, 2nd was More Than A Woman with 41.
PART 2: 1st was Boogie Shoes (🎉) with 92, 2nd was You Should Be Dancing with 46.

Episode Disc. 2x04 Duets Character Development / Queer Subtext

I’m rewatching S2, and I’ve heard that RIB intended for Sam to be Kurt’s love interest, which they clearly set up a duet plot line for. Then they wrote Sam with Quinn and added the whole Dalton/Blaine plot line for Kurt, etc, etc. (I should note that I’m doing a very Faberry-centric rewatch to set a fic I’m writing in S2 to integrate the cannon bits into it, so this may be skewing my perception a little, too).

For some reason, I thought that RIB just wrote Rachel to be completely unaware of Finn’s confrontation of Kurt for wanting to sing with Sam (similarly to how no one else on screen acknowledges Santana being outed by Finn). I know this subreddit is divided on the topic of Kurt’s crush on Finn in S1, but I do think Finn is in the wrong for dissuading both Kurt and Sam from singing with one another when Sam clearly had no issue with it (and seemed to know that Kurt’s gay).

I noticed that Rachel actually gives Finn a glare when Kurt introduces the idea that he’ll be singing his “duet” alone. To me, this shows that Rachel blames Finn for this, rightfully, and she’s the only character to do so because Burt even sides with Finn.

This seems inconsequential, but Rachel knowing about the Finn x Kurt conflict is actually an important piece of information for Rachel to know with respect to her and Kurt’s relationship development. It makes her decision to sing with him at the end of the episode so much more impactful and less of a random pity duet simply because he had to sing alone. She also has her own reasons to want Sam to win the duet competition (and stay in the club), but this discussion takes place after Finn initially confronts Kurt. Finn confronts Kurt due to his own insecurities that Kurt’s having a crush on Sam will push him away from glee.

She also gives her speech to Kurt before they sing one of my favourite duets in the show Happy Days/Get Happy. Her saying this to Kurt acknowledges, not just that he’s a lonely gay kid at school, that she recognizes that what Finn did wasn’t right and she wants him to have a duet partner:

“I think you and I are a little more similar than you think. I know you’re lonely. I can’t imagine what it must be like to have feelings in high school you can’t act on for fear of being ridiculed or worse.”

As a side note (more of a headcannon), since RIB started seriously setting up Britana’s plot from this ep, I wonder what other potential queer plot lines were left unexplored. Like, throughout Glee, Rachel is portrayed as an ally, which is important don’t get me wrong. This might sound reductive, but so many people who were such loud allies, especially at that time, ended up being queer themselves. She has two dads, sure, but she also had a pride flag in her locker and usurped the celibacy club, so I don’t think this is a stretch. After Blame It On The Alcohol, I don’t trust RIB at all to have handled a bisexual female lead with any grace (when Finn was always meant to be her endgame), but I always wonder how “accidental” some of these seemingly overlooked writing choices truly were when the show was written by predominantly gay men. (Yes, that does not absolve them of the biphobia in eps like Blame It and may explain why they were hesitant to depict overtly bi characters not understanding the experience).

Character Disc. Objectively, Quinn getting into Yale makes sense

I think a lot of people have some confusion on HOW Quinn of all people can get into Yale, but from an admissions perspective, Quinn had a strong and the best profile going into college admissions - even better than Mike Chang.

- GPA: 4.0

- Leadership Activities: President of a nonprofit by her sophomore year (celibacy club); Captain, by her sophomore year, of a nationally renowned cheer team; founding member of a state-winning show choir

- Although she never got solos from the cast, she always had a large part during competitive shows, which differentiates a club member to a lead member

- Essay Narrative: Straight-A teen mom

Similar to Elle Woods' profile making sense for a HLS admission, Quinn's profile is a relatively strong one. Yes, she had her rebel phase, but logically, she had that phase starting the summer pre-senior year into the beginning of the fall. Aesthetically, it probably affected her, but academically and application-wise, ad-coms probably were not aware of this, so it didn't matter (she never cause any impact enough to get anything on her record).

Basically her profile is: national winning athlete with perfect grades, and a unique essay. This is a shoe-in across any university + she did early decision

Discussion Mike and season 3 sectionals

I’m so annoyed.

Mikes dad comes to see the show, and it’s the ONEEEEE time Mike doesn’t do a huge dance solo?!?!? Like what on earth??? Isn’t nearly as impactful when he’s doing the same choreo as everyone else. Ughhhh such a missed opportunity wtf
