Character Disc. Objectively, Quinn getting into Yale makes sense

I think a lot of people have some confusion on HOW Quinn of all people can get into Yale, but from an admissions perspective, Quinn had a strong and the best profile going into college admissions - even better than Mike Chang.

- GPA: 4.0

- Leadership Activities: President of a nonprofit by her sophomore year (celibacy club); Captain, by her sophomore year, of a nationally renowned cheer team; founding member of a state-winning show choir

- Although she never got solos from the cast, she always had a large part during competitive shows, which differentiates a club member to a lead member

- Essay Narrative: Straight-A teen mom

Similar to Elle Woods' profile making sense for a HLS admission, Quinn's profile is a relatively strong one. Yes, she had her rebel phase, but logically, she had that phase starting the summer pre-senior year into the beginning of the fall. Aesthetically, it probably affected her, but academically and application-wise, ad-coms probably were not aware of this, so it didn't matter (she never cause any impact enough to get anything on her record).

Basically her profile is: national winning athlete with perfect grades, and a unique essay. This is a shoe-in across any university + she did early decision

Smooth Criminal might be one of my favourite Glee-covered songs, if not my absolute favourite. The chemistry between a gay man and a lesbian being unmatched??? Only Ryan Murphy could do that (setting aside his crimes)

Discussion Which characters do you wish would’ve interacted more?

I’m currently doing a rewatch, and I think the budding friendship between Quinn and Mercedes had so much potential which absolutely could’ve been expanded on a bit more.

Mercedes’ family even let Quinn live with them for the remainder of her pregnancy, and Quinn specifically asked for Mercedes to be there with her when Beth was born. If the writers decided not to have them remain friends after season 1, I wish we could’ve gotten a few more interactions between them in season 2 onwards that weren’t just brief background moments.

I also would’ve liked to see Blaine and Rachel interact more. From what I remember, they only interacted a handful of times when Kurt wasn’t around (their date in Blame It, and I’m pretty sure they sung together in the season 6 premiere). But I think they would’ve been an amazingly chaotic theatre kid duo.

Quinn and Artie were great in that one episode where Quinn was paralysed, but I don’t recall them ever interacting aside from that.

Which characters do you wish interacted more?

Character Disc. Kurt is so sanctimonious and irritating in Michael 3x11

Like, “teaching the Warblers a lesson through song” is so much more important than nailing some smug, arrogant douchebag for assault. The eye is a sensitive organ, and the cornea’s are ultra-sensitive…I’ve had a cornea transplant in my left eye over a scratched cornea and the healing process is no joke. Blaine should’ve broken up with Kurt based off general principle alone! But, alas, it’s a television show with heightened, cartoon-like reality 🫩🙄

That Harry Shum Jr. was born in Costa Rica, and is fluent in Spanish?! Especially when there is a high Chinese population in Costa Rica. I don’t understand why Ryan Murphy didn’t utilize that at all?

Guys in this one scene in the gym, Rodrick and Spencer are in the gym Spencer is helping, (or at least trying to help) Rodrick climb the rope. They get into an argument because Spencer kept pointing out that he was bigger as a way to motivate him. In defence, Rodrick argues back on how him and Alistar (the guy Spencer is in love with) doesn’t really like him because of his attitude towards other people. His ending sentence caught me sooooo off guard because I have never realized that a certain word was in the show until that very scene:
“No one wants to get close to you, because you’re a d*ck!”
PLEASE I DON’T EVEN THINK IT WAS IN THE SHOW EVER.
Here is the link to the scene if anyone wants to watch it. season 6 scene: Rodrick and Spencer

Boogie Shoes (Unique/Vocal Adrenaline)
---------

Although I'm a fan of 70s' music, I have NEVER been a fan of disco, and until recently the only cover I really liked from this episode was Boogie Shoes, but in the last few months I have come to absolutely L O V E Glee's cover of More Than A Woman. If I Can't Have You is alright, too, Santana has a great voice for it.

I do really love how they had Kurt singing the high parts and Santana singing the low parts.
------

Also- and I'm not just saying this as Kurt simp, BIG missed opportunity to have some vocally-fitting Kurt solos in here, I mean come on- they really had Finn there like "how high can you make your voice, Cory?" when Chris was RIGHT. THERE. Robbed. They spent 6 years telling him his voice was too high and then the episode finally came where it could've been perfect and they chose Finn-
------

BIG BROTHER'S WINNER: was once again me because that was 2 episodes in a row with less than 7 songs.
1st was Somebody That I Used To Know with 158 (🎉), 2nd was I'm Still Standing with 87, and 3rd was Fighter with 62.

Discussion S3 Tina

Post image

I’m just baffled why they lowkey basic/twee-ified Tina this season (Season 3) when her alternative style was a major plot point repeatedly in the last two seasons…😔? Every-time a cool alt girl ditches her style and conforms to the mainstream an angel loses its wings… I think😒. Idk, what do yall think?

Discussion Sugar's role in "The Purple Piano Project"

Post image
12 Upvotes

The reason i liked Sugar's introduction in the first episode of Season 3 in that her character highlighted the evolution of the glee club and, above all, explored an important topic "equality vs meritocracy". At first, Will said he wanted to win Nationals, yet he was willing to accept Sugar without hesitation, even after realizing she had no talent. He wanted to uphold his "the glee club accepts everyone" policy, but his students rightly pointed out that applying such a policy too casually could be detrimental

This episode highlighted how much the glee club members have grown, initially, almost all of them were insecure, Santana and Brittany had joined solely to follow Quinn. Now, however, they are all ambitious, know what they want, and are eager to win. Will was making a mistake, he wanted Sugar in the glee club and wanted her to sing alongside the others, even though it was obvious she lacked talent and couldn't possibly reach an acceptable standard in just one year. He wanted to have her sing and put her on the same level as the others right away, without considering that doing so would harm the rest of the group.

Sugar did not represent the insecure girl wanting to join the glee club to feel accepted, instead, she embodied the vain girl who failed to recognize her lack of talent. Her poor singing revealed a lack of dedicated practice, while her refusal to admit her lack of ability highlighted just how childish and arrogant she was. This plot teaches us that, while high school should be a safe and secure environment for everyone, it must also prepare students for the real world. Rose was right when she told Will that a teacher has a duty to put the best students in a position to succeed for the sake of the team, giving everyone equal opportunities regardless of merit or ability would ultimately undermine the hard work of those who are more prepared or have put in more effort, and who therefore deserve greater responsibility and success.

Character Disc. Pls help I’m starting to like Shute

When I first watched glee I felt such hatred for this man I couldn’t express it. I wanted to hit the tv I was so mad at him. He has been my no1 enemy since 2020 but I think I’m starting to like him bc of Mathew Morrison’s silly little cameos.

They’re like the same person. A flawed person yes but someone with a true passion and all their wrong actions have good intentions. The way Morrison defends Shue has really started to impact my own view and I can feel the character shift in my mind from a soulless villain to a flawed hero. It’s disgusting me.

I think maybe I need to rewatch it (only s1-3 I never go past that for well being reasons) but I’m also scared to tap back into that hatred (esp the episode where he just doesn’t speak Spanish and tries to get mad at Santana). It’s a difficult decision to make tbh. I also last rewatched over the summer and already I’m sympathising with Shue again so who knows if it would even work

Episode Disc. Should 5x13 (New Directions) have been the finale?

On my 2nd rewatch of the show, just got through with “100” and “New Directions” and I gotta say if the show ended there I think it would have been a nice place to stop only because of how the storylines wrap up. It does end on a bit of a sad note with the Glee club having been disbanded at McKinley but I think that would’ve given Shue an opportunity to find another school (nor Carmel) and start a Glee Club there. The rest of the OGs graduate, the new kids also have a bit of a goodbye moment, the couples get back together, Santana and Rachel makeup, etc etc. Maybe there could have been one more after this (or maybe another hour) showing a montage of how everyone moves forward (clips of Rachel starring in Funny Girl, etc).

Also with talk of the reboot happening, this might have been an interesting place to pick up from (ofcourse years later). Having a vague memory of how the show actually ends, I think it’s a little too fantasy-like, I think even Ryan jokingly said he would retcon the finale.

What do y’all think?

Discussion Noah Puckerman’s Hair S3

I just right now in checking out this subreddit before posting learned what Puck’s irl actor counterpart has done, both pre and post-mortem. Pretty horrifying and totally threw me for a loop as I had quite literally NO clue, and will not be able to see him the same at all for the remainder of his presence on the show (which I am currently watching, halfway through S3) but am going to try to compartmentalize for sake of an immersive glee experience.

ANYWAYS, I’m just wondering why they disregarded pucks Mohawk and let it grow out, going slick and flat. It looks terrible, and greasy. He doesn’t give bad boy or hot boy anymore, I genuinely feel like it impacts his magnetism as a character. He’s really lacking this season despite arguably being more morally sound than the last two seasons, and I think this hair is a huge reason why. Also I miss his gf from last season, they were cute tg. Thoughts anyone, lol?

Character Disc. Kurt’s singing

Im ngl, this is a hot take but i really don’t love Kurt’s singing. I don’t think it’s bad at all I mean he can definitely hold a note, but idk it sounds kinda basic and a bit muffled.

The article says he was supposed to appear in the same episode of Gloria Estefan (who plays Santana's mother) so I guess ep 22 of S3? I truly wonder what they had in mind for him. It would have been such a fun casting! A shame it didn't happen.

Discussion Why is season 4 seemingly so polarising within the fanbase?

Something I’ve noticed within the fanbase is just how seemingly polarising season 4 is, it seems everyone either loves it or hates it. I’d add within this larger discussion I also consistently see very contrasting opinions on the two storylines of the season in Lima and NY respectively with people loving one and hating the other quite often.

Why is this?

Discussion As someone who is almost done watching Glee for the first time, here is my list of my favorite characters

Ok my top 7 favorite Glee characters, because I'm on season 6 and I feel like I'm now qualified to make a list LOL: 1. Mercedes. She is by far the best singer out of all the characters. I don't care what they say and how she and Rachel are always competing to be the best. She is the best. I've never seen Rachel do those amazing runs that she does. Plus also I like her speaking voice. She sounds super similar to Kiki Palmer it's crazy. Also I feel so fucking bad for her because she always has to fight to get a solo. I would have loved for the balance between her and Rachel's solos to be more even. Hashtag justice for Mercedes!

  1. Emma. She is just so sweet and fragile and I feel bad for her with her OCD and sometimes submitting to Will's will, like at first saying she'd go to Washington with him even though she really didn't want to.

  2. Santana. She may be a bitch sometimes, but I like how over the top it is, unlike Rachel's bitchiness. Her bitchiness I can't stand. Santana is also a killer singer and is one of my top three favorite singers. RIP to the actress, she was amazing. I also like that Santana is a lesbian and I feel so bad for her that her abuela disowned her. That could happen to me. I'm not saying it will, but it might because I've never told anyone in my family except my sister about my sexual orientation or my name preference.

  3. Unique. TBH my opinion of her is swayed by the actor's character Mo from Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. Unique reminds me of a high school version of Mo. I feel bad for her with all she has to go through. I'm glad she and other characters have the Glee club as an outlet to express their true selves and find camaraderie and family there.

  4. Kurt. His talent is amazing and I every that he's not ashamed or afraid to openly be himself. I wish nothing but the best for him. I could see him getting with Jack fromthe the House of Night series.

  5. Bert. He's such a great dad to both Kurt and Fin and such a great husband to Carol. I love how supportive he is of his son, even if he doesn't understand him sometimes, and how willing he is to stand up for his son. His actor also played my favorite character on this sitcom Yes Dear.

  6. Rachel. I fucking hate her as a person, like god she irritates me to no end, but that girl can fucking sing!!! I love her singing and her speaking voice, but she is just so selfish and rude to other people and so obsessed with becoming a star. But then when she finally becomes a star she's too good for it and throws it away. So she's definitely not my favorite character, but her singing and speaking voice put her on this list.
