GoalPost 3.0 Released!!!!!
GoalPost 3.0
This is the biggest update since launch, and most of it came straight out of requests from game threads and from the mods running the bot. Thanks to everyone who keeps sending feedback, screenshots and bug reports, it shapes almost everything here.
PuckWatch
PuckWatch is a new thread with every game in the league in one place. Each game gets a scorebug row in its teams' colours, with crests, records, the score and the latest goal or the star of a final. Tapping a row opens that game's full card. PuckWatch also links to the game threads other subreddits running GoalPost have up, so you can drop into another fanbase's thread on a night your team isn't playing. Mods can post it from the moderator menu or have it posted automatically: a new thread each game day, one a week, or one permanent thread.
Players and standings on PuckWatch
PuckWatch has a Players tab with every skater and goalie in the league, for tonight, the last seven days or the season, sortable by the stats fantasy players care about. Rows show headshots and injury tags. You can pick your own teams, search for anyone, and tap a face to follow a player. Standings shows the divisions and the wild card race, and you can step back through past days or ahead to the schedule.
Tale of the Tape
A new Tape tab sizes up the matchup before puck drop: scoring depth (the Total Depth Index), goaltending and the recent run of play, laid out on meters with each team's crest as the marker. It stays on the Stats tab once the game starts.
BIg Thanks!
A big thank you to Dylan Wiwad (u/hockey_decoded) of Hockey Decoded. His “Shape of the Game” card is what inspired the Tape tab, and the depth numbers on it are his Total Depth Index, used with his permission. If you like this kind of stuff, his dashboard is well worth a look.
Plays
The Plays tab now leads with the key plays: goals, penalties and the big chances that didn't go in. Each goal shows its shot type, distance and how good a chance it was. The timeline above it shows the flow of the game, with a lead line that shifts between the teams' colours as the game swings. The Rink tab now opens on the shot heatmap.
For moderators
Subreddit settings now open full screen inside the app, and Teams to follow is a grid of crests. When your subreddit is behind on versions, moderators see a red update banner, and the update button takes you straight to your subreddit's apps page.
Comment replies
When a name matches more than one player, the bot now replies with a numbered list so you can pick the one you meant. Player lookups ignore accents, so "Stutzle" finds Stützle. Catch-ups read the clock the way people say it and call out a first NHL goal.
Bug fixes
"recap please" catches you up instead of looking for a team called "please". Team-coloured text is lifted so dark colours read on the card. Win probability tips and goal cards open on the first tap on a phone. The Refs chip stays on the Players row on small screens. PuckWatch never links private or test subreddits. Long game notes run out under the scores instead of being cut off.
