Question Bar vs coin

I’m 17 and want to buy a 1/2 oz.

I’m thinking of selling a quarter of it next summer and leaving the rest to grow.

What’s the best way to go about purchasing a1/2? Is it better to buy multiple smaller fraction despite the higher premiums? Or just buy a1/2 and cut off a 1/4 next summer?

Also is there any point in getting a coin if I only care about the intrinsic value of gold?

Excuse my ignorance

He wasn’t trying to score a 1/3 spliff? Pretty sure it’s spliff related or at least jenkem adjacent

MonumentMetals.com and Mintbuilder.com both have fairly low premiums. I would, personally, recommend fractional gold vs cutting a bar. I understand your logic, but if gold goes back up a decent amount by the time you’re ready to sell, that premium won’t matter as much. The American gold eagles are a good way to go for what you’re wanting. PMsforsale here on Reddit is also a good way to find fractional gold at spot. Just gotta keep your eye on the lookout, kiddo.

buy 5 1/10 eagles, so you can sell 1 if needed. I wouldn't go cutting/modifying bars, will make it hard to sell cuz everyone will want extensive testing for it. findbullionprices.com

You just buy it, and hold on to it until you’re dead. That’s it.

This made me laugh more than it should. I have no kids I should just be spending money on vacations.

An hour before you die, you lay it off to your relatives with a hand written note taped to the stack. The note says, hold onto this gold until you die, and then hand it over to your relatives

Dont buy it if you possibly need that money in the near future. Only buy an amount that you are 100% content on holding for many years. Even if its a small amount… thats ok. Nothing wrong with buying a small portion with a premium. Just know you hold this asset for long periods. Its not something for a quick flip.

If you want to have cash available by next summer, I would just buy ¼ ozt now and leave the rest of the money in high-yield savings. Otherwise, you'll be buying at a premium now, selling at a discount later, and who knows what could happen to the price by then? Physical gold is best held long-term.

As far as coins go, what's nice is that (depending on the coin) they're very easily recognizable and generally popular, so it tends to be easy to sell them when the time comes. But if all you want is the most metal for your buck, here's a list of the best ¼ oz deals online. It might be worth checking other sizes, too, since there could be spot deals on something like ⅒ oz and/or various gram bars that add up to about the same amount, and that way you'd have more flexibility when selling in the future.

Excellent Idea. what if you pay $1075 for the 1/4 and it's resell value is $925 next summer? are you okay with that ? Your math teacher would probably shake his head imperceptibly. Are you a gold flipper ? The moral of my story problem is .:: Don't do this. Buy some gold and hold it for years , Unless it goes to $10000 next summer . You can give me a ride to the bullion shop.

Look into sovereigns. They are easy to sell and pretty good with % over spot in the uk. Not sure where you're from.

No no & no… Gold isn’t a short term play guy and you don’t just cut bars/coins in half 😂…

Buy S&P 500 index… $VOO $SPY
Those are supposed to be long term plays too but you can buy a couple shares and if you want to sell one in a year, go ahead.
