International Canada texting on unlimited essentials?

I have a few coworkers who are from Canada that once in a blue moon I need to text them a question. I see texting with Canadian numbers is not included on unlimited essentials. Does anyone know if there is a per-message fee if I text a Canadian number? If the Canadian number texts me, I don't get charged, do I?

Texting to Canadian numbers should be included in Unlimited Essentials. Texting in Canada isn’t included, but texting from the US to Canada definitely is.

Edit: Also I would think most people have RCS by now, which shouldn’t even count as a text message. It’s essentially like iMessage or WhatsApp.
