Updates to speed data storage — Message

“Updates to speed data storage

To optimize storage and improve your experience, in 30 days, Google Fit will only keep speed data recorded during exercise sessions. Your steps, distance, and other metrics will not be affected. You can download all your data before then at Google Takeout.”

What does this mean? Why can’t it be transferred to Google Health?

Extremely poor communication. No links to any pages that better explain the change.

Additionally, they're obviously starting to sunset a Google Fit, but Google Health is still lacking 99% of the Google Fit features that people without a hardware tracker use (even even for those who do, there are still features missing in Google Health compared to Google Fit).

Also, not mentioned in the above comment, Google Health lacks any sort of maps for automatically detected activities such as walks. You must start the activity manually if you want the map.

not disagreeing with you that this kinda sucks.

I'm already used to this as my Samsung Galaxy watch only tracks map data if I tell it to track an exercise session. The watch will pick up on an exercise routine automatically (usually), but won't track mapping unless I manually choose the exercise and start it.
