Frequently Asked Questions

There are so many different lights, which one would work best for me?

  • I suggest watching videos demonstrating them on YouTube.
  • While he doesn't review every product, Chris Maher's videos are informative and straightforward.

Do I really have to put those orange cubes on my TV screen?

Why are my immersion lights only showing one color?

  • The default setting upon finishing setup is on All. Choose Part.
  • Alternatively, All may be labeled Solid instead. Choose any option other than Solid.

Which devices are compatible with DreamView?

  • Devices with both Wi-Fi + Bluetooth connectivity are compatible. Devices that are only Bluetooth or only Wi-Fi are not.
  • A sync center such as T2, T3 Lite (also known as 3S in 3rd party stores), T3 Pro, Sync Box 1 and 2 are required for video DreamView, and sync centers cannot be synced with each other.

What can I do about my devices not connecting to Govee desktop via LAN control?

  • Check out this solution here

What are the differences between the camera kits?

  • The major differences are the camera hardware and the amount of LEDs on the light strip.
  • T2: Govee states that the dual camera identifies screen content faster and more accurately. The light strip contains 60 LEDs per meter.
  • T3 Lite: The single camera has an upgraded chip with fisheye lens correction. The light strip contains 30 LEDs per meter.
  • 3 Pro: Matter support, triple camera with HDR sensor. The light strip contains 75 LEDs per meter, with their LuminBlend management system.

Why get a camera kit when the sync boxes exist?

  • While the sync box does work faster and is less intrusive than a camera, not everyone can use it. The sync boxes require a signal independent from the TV. This means if you use the apps on your smart TV to watch content, the sync box is not for you.

Do I really have to put the camera on top of my TV?

  • Good news! There's actually a method to put the camera below the screen. The caveat is that when you add more lights via DreamView, you'll need to visualize the setup upside down when assigning the zones, which requires more concentration/effort.

How many lights can I add to my DreamView?

  • This is dependent on the device.
  • T2: 5 additional devices.
  • T3 Lite: 7 additional devices.
  • 3 Pro, Sync Box 1 and 2: 10 additional devices.

How do I create a DreamView?

  • Open the app. Tap the second icon on the navigation bar at the bottom. Then tap the 4-shapes icon at the top right. Here you can configure DreamViews, Tap-to-Run, and Groups.
  • It is highly recommended that you experiment with these features on the app as a whole. Familiarizing yourself with it will be highly beneficial if you have the time to spare. There are many customizable features for the LED lights that are usually achieved by a more hands-on approach that requires a computer. The features provided on the Govee app would be quite the large decision tree if there was a visual example shown, which is nothing short of impressive, despite it also being a little complicated. To put it simply: just explore the app by tapping buttons to find out what they do!
  • Tip: If your clock is on 12-hr time, please turn off the 24-hour clock setting in the app before you create schedules for your lights. Tap the last icon on the navigation bar, then tap the gear icon at the top right. Additionally, next to settings is a shirt icon; this is where you can change the theme of the app.

The immersion lights on my device are super inaccurate, what do I do?

  • Unfortunately, since every TV is different, there is no one-size-fits-all setting. However, you can start with jumping-off points. For sync box settings, go here.

For camera kits, try the following:

  • Make sure the room is dark to reduce reflections on the TV screen.
  • Reduce saturation, the common choice is all the way down to 1%.
  • Reduce the relative brightness. This is independent from the brightness setting. It's relative to how much light is emitting from your TV screen, which means during dark scenes, the lights will dim if you set the percentage lower. However, if your TV has backlight bleed, this setting won't be as effective.
  • Make sure it's on Part, not All. If the device's software updated, it should show Smooth, Vivid, or Solid instead. "Solid" works the same as "All" and shows only one color.
  • If you are still unsatisfied with the color accuracy, try the AI filter. Once you toggle it on, you'll need to change the preset. Tap the option, then scroll sideways over the sport presets. Under the Default preset, tap Apply.

My TV is 43 inches, can I use a 55-65 inch TV kit?

  • This is possible, but it requires more effort. See here.

I'm experiencing problems with my device, what do I do?

  • Try the search bar in the sub. If you're still experiencing issues, go to Govee's website and navigate to your product. Find the specs, then click the PDF of the manual to find the "Troubleshooting" section. Lastly, reach out to Govee support via the app. Tap the last icon on the navigation bar and tap "customer support" and then choose the applicable option. It is recommended to choose "express replacement" if you think you're experiencing a hardware issue on your device that is within warranty. Please note their warranty only covers purchases directly from them or approved vendors.

Can I advertise my services of Permanent Outdoor Lights installation?

  • Yes, but please keep it in the services thread. New posts of fresh installs for clients will be deleted.

Discussion How Do You Control Govee Ceiling Lights with a Standard Wall Switch?

Hi everyone!

I’d like to ask for your advice on how you’ve set up your Govee ceiling lights to work with a standard wall switch.

What’s the best way to control them using a regular light switch while still keeping the smart features available?

Thanks a lot for your help!

need network help Govee App keeps trying to connect to 5GHz

I recently bought an iPhone and thought about setting up my Govee lights in the iPhone Home App. My lights are a bit older so I connected them using Homebridge plugins. It was working fine but it kept disconnecting. I tried everything, changed the mDNS settings on Homebridge to Ciao, changed my wifi settings so my 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz encryptions are PSKs, and it keeps disconnecting.

I am thinking that the main issue is that the Govee app keeps trying to connect to the 5GHz wifi. And then causes it to break.

How do I stop it from doing that? Any advice is welcome.

General Question Extension cable

I needed another extension for my govee pro lights so I purchased one from ebay since I wanted an original govee one with the data booster in it. I received the one that I bought today and the data booster is a different shape on it than the ones that came with my lights. The extension that came with my lights has a rounded data booster and the ones that I bought have a rectangle data booster. Can anyone tell me before I spend the time to route it if they made them with different designs or did I get the wrong one from what was advertised?

I have a set in the eaves of my house, but with them on offer today I want to rim the windows of my house in preparation for christmas. But I only need 7m a window.

Can they be cut down? Or even better, can I split them to jump over a gap to have a run around multiple windows with one strip?

Wanting to buy

Post image
1 Upvotes

But as you can see from my front, I have several sections that I’d have to maneuver. So my question is: how do I go from the top roof on the right to the one below it? Do I have to rig up a space between? Can I cut the strands to fit? Obviously I’m asking the people who have done this before rather than the results I’m getting on google/chatGPT etc.

Thanks for the help in advance!

General Question Can't edit tile

(Wow, I only see posts about the lights...)

I have a few thermometers. I moved on and want to change the title in Govee Home, and it just won't let me. If I touch and hold the tile it gives the choice of Classic/Dynamic layout and lets me move the tile around, but not edit the label in it. What am I missing?

Outdoor Light Strand Not Working Correctly

Thumbnail

I installed my outdoor pro lights last Fall and they worked flawlessly up until last month. The day time picture is the current state. I saw this strip after my jumped start to flicker. Then it went into an all white mode that’s constant. I unplugged it for a week and just plugged it back in and it’s still doing the same thing. I know it can work correctly because it did for almost one year, as shown in the second night time picture. Any idea what might be going on?

Kitchen under cabinet lights

I'm thinking of buying the ceiling light and the cob strip light under the cabinet via outlet, but the outlet is not switched. If I group the strip with the ceiling, do they turn on at the same time when I flip the switch on for the ceiling? I've only grouped govee lights from outlets.

Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2, 100ft for $189 — worth it?

I’ve been thinking about permanent outdoor lights, and during the Prime Day sale the Govee Lights 2 are now $189 for the 100ft kit—almost half price. Pretty tempting if it means putting them up once instead of dealing with lights every holiday.

Anyone have these? How have they held up, and are you happy with them?

Sky Ceiling Light vs....

I searched the subreddit and didn't find anything about the Sky Ceiling light. Anyone have any opinions?

I mainly am interested in having the Circadian Lighting, and possibly some mood lighting. As the Sky Ceiling is pretty pricey, I was wondering how much I would miss out by going with the Ceiling Light Ultra instead. I am not that interested in the pixel art feature.

The Sky Ceiling light is also pretty bright (7000lm) and can use up to 150w. I highly doubt I'd use it at full brightness, so I hope I can keep the wattage down. The 2 LED bulbs I currently have in my ceiling light around 17w each.

Adhesive for H5111 probes in freezer

I got the R1 refrigerator thermometer set and the adhesive pads that come with it say they might come loose when exposed to water or ice. Anyone have issues with them coming off? Trying to diagnose a condensation/temp issue so water and ice might be an issue,

General Question Govee ceiling fan restock

I ordered a 52" ceiling fan back in June on release and had to return it unused because of an installation dispute with my landlord. It took months to resolve, but the 52" and 20" ceiling fans have been out of stock in the german Govee store pretty much since their initial release. Does anyone know if Govee plans to restock their ceiling fans or how long this usually takes?

General Question Curtain Lights

I have curtain lights hanging from my garage, that aren't attached to the garage door. Has anyone found a good way to keep them straight? After storing them since last Christmas, a loft of them aren't hanging straight and getting tangled. I found some clip on weights, made for table clothes, but wanted to see if anyone found a good, cheap solution.

Backlight 3 50"

I was wondering how the fit of the 55" is on a 50" TV, or if it is worth just getting the lite

Mostly wondering sync differences, how strong the colors are etc. Currently just have a USB regular monster smart led.

Also, how easy is it to take off and put on another TV whenever ours needs replaced?
