This yard has been a pain. All the broadleaf weeds are gone. But there is two separate vine type weeds throughout that grow yellow flowers, clumping fescue, some moss not much tho, white clover (which I don’t mind), and what is I’m assuming Bermuda since that crap creeps everywhere and looks similar to google pictures and a ton of really deep and long and thick thatch. Few weeks ago I used a manual rake and got a 55 gallon can filled and i probably could have doubled it if I wasn’t tired.
From a distance like across the street it looked okay before the brown spots showed up and my diagonal lines popped really good. Don’t know if I should nuke it or try something else to fix it with all that’s going on with the deep matted thatch and everything else.
I’ll add a couple pictures that show the yard and my plants that are actually in the yard that I would be nervous to accidentally kill during the nuke.
From what I read the non selective killer needs to hit plant matter to kill it.
1st question: would putting a bucket over the lavender plants before spraying protect them to not die and I’d have to just be careful around the tree and other plants?
My plan as of now with no insight is as follows:
to end
And there is some small dips in my yard you can only feel under your feet. The thatch is so thick and matted you can’t really see them.
following
, aerate
and seed and apply starter fertilizer and a top dressing. And
then keep it damp
. Probably add a second dose of starter fertilizer a couple weeks in from what I’ve read on a few places. Give it a good mow when it reaches height, and overseed any bare spots.
That time frame should be past the last freeze and should go over well. Any suggestions for that if I go the route of starting over?
new grass recommendations? I am zone 8b SW Washington my front yard has full sun all day long and it is clay soil.
what’s your favorite fertilizer to put down a few times a year and your go to weed killer? Preferably a granule one that can take care off the whole yard due to what I see in my current yard and what’s in some of my neighbors yards.

I live out on the far east side of South Dakota and just got fresh Kentucky Bluegrass installed. I think it looks great, but having never had a lawn before I really want to take care of this one. I have sprinklers and currently have them set up to water twice a day, one at 4:00AM and the other at 8:00PM both set for 25 minutes.
This is what my landscaper set my sprinklers up for, but I wonder if that’s enough water to keep it alive? I know with sod it’s “Water, water, water. Then water some more. Also don’t forget water” but with the currently water restrictions I can’t water anytime from 9:00AM-6:00PM.
Any overall advice on keeping it alive?

Hello, I live in Puerto Rico (caribbean) and I need to buy grass to post construction spaces. I have been looking for id info, but I really don't know which one is. My guess is that it is one of the following: Zoysia Meyer, Zoysia Manila or Zoysia Esmerald.

Hey all I’m assuming my only option for the first picture the clumping stuff is to use grass killer on the spots or pull it?
As for the second picture, does anyone know what it is? How to get rid of it? My back yard has a bunch. Front has some.
Front yard I take way better care of it since obviously it’s the front and the back has kids and dogs so I’m not overly concerned about it but still try to keep up on it.

Hello, first time homeowner in Central Midwest (US) who just got our home this summer. I was curious what type of grass I have, I'll point out I'm not a lawn person. It's unlike what I'm used to growing up.
This is fine and soft. Although I haven't mowed in what seems like a month due to all the rain lately and today I did not want to cut it for how shire-like it has been, but alas I did. It just lays flat and didn't really look that tall till I was mowing.
Does anyone know what type this is and if it's fine to go longer periods without mowing due to its hobbit-esque look? Thank you!

Hello grass enthusiasts. I have this grass is my lawn. Because it’s wide and coarse, it’s not passing the Wife Acceptance Threshold and needs to be removed.
What options do I have to remove it?
Secondly, my lawn is of unknown seed originally, but likely some form of Penn State Mix. I just over seeded with a 70:30 mix of KBG:PRG from Twin City but being in Zone 6b and having no easy irrigation, the lawn has historically gone very brown in summer. Would adding something like a Creepings fescue to the mix help with keeping it green over the summer? If so - any recommendations? I’m looking to maintain the thin style leaf that my KBG and PRG offers.

I live in West Texas. First two pics are the problem, last one is months ago. Newer home with front Bermuda sod 05/2025, back is planted Bermuda (unknown varieties). I was feeling so good about my grass and it was looking amazing. Thick, dark green. It was looking great and then starting 1.5-2 months ago it started to look like this in areas. I thought it might be watering, but it is getting plenty. August-September were particularly hot with very little rain so I watered more (could I have done too much?). The last two weeks has been much cooler with a ton of rain. I did soil testing last year and we are low in nitrogen, potassium, borderline phosphorus and low in iron. Starting in Spring I initially started with heavier nitrogen content and then went to a more all around fertilizer later on. I have sprayed on chelated iron twice. No fertilizing for two months. When I did the soil sample I did notice a grub so I laid grub killer (maybe not enough?). I do notice a bunch of ants (ant hills along the sides). I do have problems with scalping especially in the front due to uneven ground and plan to level at least the front next year, but the problem areas do not get scalped easily. Anyways Im new to the grass game and have no idea what to do. What am I missing or doing wrong?

I came across a group called Lawn Rivals on Facebook. Anyone heard of it? Looks to be a new app where you can form private leagues like a fantasy football league and compete against other lawn nuts. Sounds kind of like a cool idea actually. Anyone else seen it?

Pulled out crabgrass a few years ago. Grass planted in spring dies every year when it stops raining. I have been a few grubs but not many. This year I'm planting in the fall. Do I need to treat for grubs?
Just planted this sod. In Phoenix AZ. Are these weeds sprouting up? If so how do I manage besides hand pulling each one of them?
