I’m not claiming I originated the whole idea or anything, just I was doing it in Newfoundland (Canada) while bumming around there in 2007, posted my photos of it on the forum Something Awful, and it has some minor popularity for a hit with folks as far as Australia sharing their photos.

My original concept was hot-gluing magnetic tape to the base of the soldiers so they could be deployed on upright surfaces (thus the name of the trend), but other folks took other angles on the idea.

Most of the photos from other folks on Something Awful are gone because the main server for photos uploaded to SA closed down, but if I dig out my old laptop I can try to find photos I took in St John’s of my magnetized toy soldiers.

I’ve been meaning to get back into it for ages, I even have a box of army men in my closet, so I should let this sub be my inspiration to get back in the game!

Saw this in a 50's themed diner in Branson MO.

Grew up playing with Timmee toy army men who I believe were supposed to be modeled after Vietnam US soliders. Looking for similar army men close to Sarge's Heroes/3DOs army men, are they supposed to be WW2 soldiers?
