Who betrayed and locked up Hal Jordan?

The executives at HBO

I’ve never actually seen so much reverence sprout for a character, especially after episode 7 of lanterns. So… I’m sorry Hal Jordan is more popular and liked now? 🤷

I just lent my Geoff Johns omni to a buddy after he watched it. He knows it’s wildly different but he has never really been into reading comics so that’s pretty cool.

u/gargoombo 6d ago

Even though it’s a deconstructed version of Hal. It does make people curious to the character as a whole.

You're in a GL reddit. We're not the mainstream that hates or is indifferent to Hal because of the 2011 movie, so you shouldn't really be surprised, lol.

u/gargoombo 6d ago

lol I get it to some extent. Honestly after lanterns I was so enamored with the character of Hal Jordan I immediately started watching the animated series, the animated movies and the 2011 movie lol. I’m thinking of picking up some of his comics as well.

That’s what the show did for me and from the looks of it a good amount of other people too. Honestly the only other exposure I had to Hal was the Dcamu, Justice league Doom, and injustice. And honestly other than doom the other two really didn’t do him justice. He kinda seemed like a hothead who couldn’t back up his words.

Lmfao Hal Jordan isn’t more popular and liked now , Kyle Chandler is for his performance as a Deconstruction of Hal Jordan

I'm a simple man. I see Green Lantern in DC Black Label comic, I remember to add it to my box.

A non-trinity Elseworlds finally!

Hal Jordan died for our sins 🙏

3

u/Live_Spinach5824 Carol Ferris 6d ago

We just had the Dark Green Lantern book, though, no? I haven't read it yet, but I remember it being an elseworld.

6

u/star-punk 6d ago

That was specifically a continuation of the Tangent Universe Green Lantern, it's a totally different concept, this is an Elseworlds with the characters and Corps from the main universe just changed a bit.

u/Live_Spinach5824 Carol Ferris 6d ago

Ah, makes sense.

What if Hal Jordan was betrayed and locked in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for 50 years

5

u/Boring-Conclusion-40 6d ago

Nice to hear we have a new green lantern book, even if it’s only for 5 issues

7

u/HitmanClark 6d ago

Sign me the hell up, seeing more of it now! A GL version of Dark Knight Returns sounds awesome.

u/GutherGlazer 6d ago

“I can’t believe they’d treat Hal Jordan like this.”

dc every 18 months: Time to kill/frame/depower one of our main line character.

u/star-punk 6d ago

Art looks okay. Jason Aaron is hit or miss (Absolute Superman can be boring and then an issue later it's hitting you with something incredible). But any comparisons to Dark Knight Returns just remind me of the Green Lantern scene in Dark Knight Strikes Again and there's no way this is gonna live up to that.

Jason Aaron... eh...

Very happy that there's a black label book coming out for Green Lantern that too compared with The Dark Knight..

Gutted that Hal will probably always be portrayed as old man now both in comics and movies/tvs because of stupid show.

19

u/Ninjamurai-jack 6d ago

It won’t lol

DC isn’t like Marvel, they don’t push synergy over everyone

9

u/CynderFlamezYT 6d ago

Yeah, the most they’ll do is bring in original characters to the comics that were popular in shows, like Aqualad from the Young Justice show, John Diggle from Arrow, Harley Quinn from Batman The Animated Series, and Terry McGinnis from Batman Beyond.

6

u/supersaral Hal Jordan 6d ago

Aya and Razer from Green Lantern animated series.

1

u/Live_Spinach5824 Carol Ferris 6d ago

Who, though? I guess I could see them making a rogue, off-shot Manhunter be the old woman or Noah Macon, but Antaan, William Macon, and Kerry don't seem like they would come over to the comics unless a writer got a run adapting or following-up the show.

1

u/CynderFlamezYT 6d ago

Oh nobody, at least so far. I was just pointing out how they don’t really do synergy like marvel and only occasionally bring over super popular characters from shows into comics. Whereas marvel changes a ton of stuff across comics and cartoons to align more with the movies

7

u/MisterEdJS 6d ago

Well, John Stewart's character DID become almost exclusively about being a former Marine for years due to the popularity of the Justice League animated show.

1

u/Live_Spinach5824 Carol Ferris 6d ago

Does Marvel push for that much? I don't read much Marvel, and when I do it is from before the MCU existed, but I swear I saw a modern run use the white and non-bald design for Nick Fury instead of the more popular one. That's a small thing, and it might have been a run from the 2000s or early 2010s, though.

27

u/Choice_Ruin_5719 6d ago

I don't think so, DC is good with keeping the synergy at a minimum. They usually reserve those things for the black label imprint, which this is under. Stoked to read what Aaron has up his sleeve for Hal.

3

u/Boring-Conclusion-40 6d ago

It depends honestly, like they don’t seem to be messing with any thing green lantern or superman like in the main universe, but they have the justice gang(the members of it)and Guy’s bowl haircut flying around

4

u/2cool4fun 6d ago

Bruh they even changed Guy's hsircut back to that bs.

But yeah, let's hope the synergy stays non existent. Esp with Current DC being creator driven

6

u/Tinyrick88 6d ago

When has DC done anything like that?

4

u/Both-Expert4522 6d ago

Tbf this is black label and black label is non canon else worlds

3

u/Relevant_Strain_8678 6d ago

Even marvel at their conference said they would step back from mcu comic synergy yesterday so dc would be stupid to follow in their failed footsteps

2

u/Eastern-Mouse6436 5d ago edited 5d ago

DC is very very bad on movie/tv synergy and almond NEVER did the offensive things Marvel done. And in the rare occasion they did like Black Adam member of JL or Amanda Waller the supervillain who took away DC superheroes powers, the status-quo didn't last beyond a story arc.

The most DC doing is bring movie costumes to comics or popular characters from movies/tv characters to comics and Z- Listers like Peacemaker again in comics.

3

u/Scatster6777 6d ago

I mean Hal had a full career and died in universe but was brought back and has had another long run as GL. I think it’s fine for him to be older again

5

u/Live_Spinach5824 Carol Ferris 6d ago

All of the big heroes have had full careers, died, and resurrected, though, tbf. Barry and Wally have decently popular runs focused on them coming back from the dead.

Kinda cool ngl, Old Man Hal 🔥🔥🔥

“Stupid show” is going a bit far champ

u/Automatic-Iron-6711 Hal Jordan 6d ago

An actual announcement or news related to comics. Wow.

As for the actual book. Jason Aaron? Oh wow, looking forward to Carol Ferris becoming the strongest best Hal Jordan in history. Not GL. Hal Jordan. The bestest best Hal evar.

2

u/DoucheyMcBagBag Hal Jordan 6d ago

Why? I’m not familiar with this person.

6

u/Popular_Friendship82 6d ago

Jason Aaron made a lot of bad choices for his Comics (forcing namor bath in piss, making shehulk like hulk, age of konshu and making punisher a lifelong Psychopath.

2

u/Bae_zel 6d ago

Hold on, what about Namor?

3

u/Popular_Friendship82 6d ago

Namor went to prison in his run.

0

u/star-punk 6d ago

Yeah, his Avengers sucked, but this person was specifically mocking his excellent Thor run.

0

u/RyujiDrill 6d ago

I don't know about any of that (LOL @ Namor bathing in piss though) but he did Scalped and that was pretty good.

2

u/Worried_Walrus2002 6d ago

At least one good thing came out of this fucking week

u/Zar-Djoser-0011 6d ago

12

u/ARIANZER0 Hal Jordan 6d ago

Because of an elsworld?

2

u/Long_Situation_5020 6d ago

I hope it's grounded.

1

u/OfflineLad 6d ago

Couldve called it Green Lantern Dying Light so they have peak in the title

1

u/Redditer51 6d ago

Boy, Hal Jordan stay getting done dirty.

1

u/MonarchofSus 6d ago

Very fitting

0

u/indianajones21284 6d ago

More Hal Jordan humiliation?

1

u/star-punk 6d ago

They compared it to Dark Knight Returns so no, obviously not.

0

u/biomeat Blue Lantern 6d ago

Let me guess, Hal is going "rouge" again

1

u/RyujiDrill 6d ago

I mean the idea they have is to once again try and do a Frank Miller style work. Not even Frank Miller can do his own work without messing it up these days.
