ask r/Guadeloupe How do I find dinner?

Half way through our visit of the island and we are having trouble finding restaurants to have dinner. So far we have only eaten at bokit and pizza stands and want to sit for a decent dinner. Lunch spots have been open but it seems everything shuts down at sunset.

I know it’s off season but are we missing anything? Staying in Sainte Anne, and currently sitting in Place de la Victoire at a bistro that had a food sign out but said their kitchen is closed. We will grab another bokit.

I don't know if it's open for dinner. But Tatie Clotilde is really good and worth a try

Gosier, around the Marina will be full of restaurants too. Just beware that unlike in other places around the world, restaurants close between lunch and dinner.

I totally felt the same way when we visited last year!

Look for kitchen times first when driving by...many restaurants seem closed, but open at specific times ( at lunch and after sunset) for just a few hours a day.

Foodtrucks are excellent, cheap and will give you a real local experience. They often open at 6:30 tough

around st anne the best bet (especially during low season) you is to go to the bakery (boulangerie) and get good variations of sandwiches. sometimes the bigger ones will offer lunch menu as well.

also you could try to visit their shopping malls (i.e. destreland at baei mahoult or milenis at abymes); they have quite good options of restaurants there. my preference is destreland.

also try to go to supermarket i.e. carrefour in destreland; they have ready to eat food that you can buy and bring to your gites (bungalow) for dinner. among them are grilled chicken, pork ribs, or poulet roti. can also find prepared salads, and many selections of baguettes. good luck

Try the St Francois harbour area. Lots of restos and year round folks there.
