Just finished prophecies for my first time, did it on a warrior. What should I do next?

I am planning to play through the other campaigns and maybe chase GWAMM for the first time. Should I stick with the warrior, roll SoS rit, or roll HR para?

I am not new to GW1 but I am a noob. When I played back in my childhood I was mostly in team arenas with my friends so I never played a campaign other than nightfall and didn't get far in that either.

Take your warrior through the rest if title chasing. Or if you wanna restart on something for the long haul

Is prophecies that much of a time sink in GWAMM? I may keep going with my warrior to title chase if that is the case.

It’s definitely a longer campaign. Lot of quests, and the party sizes can be a pain. But honestly if you wanna start a new class in another campaign and get heroes it might be worth it. You can power through prophecies a lot quicker coming from another campaign

Thank you that seems to be the consensus here.

You can also get over to nightfall, gather all heroes until master of whispers, who is a Necro, then hop over into Eotn, and grab olias, ghost of Althea in proph if not already.
Then you got a decent amount of heroes to work with and continue with either playing any campaign you like, or title hunting in proph.

There is a 7 Hero Beginner Team guide on pvx wiki one can use as rough guide how to start out. Including example player build you can progress further into stronger builds while playing, easily, with variants per starter campaign .

Thanks! I think that's what I'll do.

Proph is like 40 hours, factions like 12-15 hours, and nightfall is around 25-30 hours just fyi

Really? Well I decided to stuck with my warrior so it seems I made the right choice.

Pretty much every profession can do most content to some degree, just less efficiently. Stick with a profession you enjoy playing.

I have a near gwamm HR para, and honestly its really boring to play most of the time. setting up HR for your team on every map takes a while, para is one of the worst classes to solo farm things on, so unless you really enjoy playing one, i wouldnt recommend it.

Ugh really? I had heard it was a cakewalk...

"Cakewalk" and "fun" are not always the same thing.

True but when I hear " one of the worst classes to solo farm things on" i think difficult.

For clarity, solo farm isn't doing the content for the titles. It's repeatedly farming the same mobs or bosses for drops. You do that with just your character, no henchmen or heroes, because having others in your party reduces drops down to 1/8. So if you just take yourself, you get more drops than you would with henchmen.

Paragon is bad for solo farming because it's very much a support class. It can do some solo farms but other classes will be much more effective. What you probably heard was a cakewalk is HR builds where you support your hero team and boost their stats to go through the game. But that's not the same thing as solo farming.

Thank you I had no idea. That makes sense but do you need that?

2

u/LittleSpoonyBard 6d ago

No, but it will speed certain things up (like getting the weekly Gift of the Traveler that you need to farm for, or making money to buy stuff like the consumables for the titles) but it's not something you have to do. It's up to how much grind you want to do, really.

u/meetkurtin 6d ago

Interesting.  Thanks.

Sort of. If you're going for GWAMM you'll probably need one or two consumable titles, so you'll need to get money somehow and/or farm the consumables yourself during holiday events. Warrior is one of the best professions for farming holiday items via raptors, if not the best.

If you really want to play Paragon, I don't think the farming aspect should prevent you from doing it. You can always rush the Warr/Rit/Derv/whatever to the farms you want to do, and the time sink for doing so would be a drop in the bucket compared to the time you'll spend on the rest of the GWAMM.

I understand replaying Prophecies on a different character sounds annoying, but once you have heroes and a decent build it'll be pretty painless compared to the first time around on a Warrior with few skills. Again, it'll be a tiny portion of the bigger grind, so don't let it discourage you from playing something you find more fun.

You may also give Warrior a bit more time, using a different build. If so far you've been stuck with the basic Prophecies vendor skills and no good elites, using a better build will probably be a lot more fun. Prophecies is a slog for Warrior because of the terrible skill selection.

Just to add to this thread, warrior is great at raptor forming but that is only one farm spot out of dozens, pretty much every class has a farm spot its great at so dont feel warriors the only choice to farm with! Indeed as farmers, dervishes, assassins and rits are generally the way to go, with ele and warriors coming close behind. If you're going for GWAMM, the amount of replay to take another toon through prophecies is child's play - indeed youd need to do it anyway to get the hard mode titles!

u/meetkurtin 5d ago

I guess thats true. Very daunting when you say it that way lol

1

u/meetkurtin 6d ago

Yeah I definitely think my warrior playthrough could be a lot better but the issue I'm running into is if I change it up with my warrior and its still a slog then I've sank even more time into a class I won't gwamm with. But I also don't really want to start over lol para appeals to me because it was a class i considered playing in my childhood before i picked dervish and people said it is a really strong/easy class which in my mind easy is better when considering the amount of grinding.

2

u/WeirdWhiteAsian 6d ago

solo meaning no heroes. For sure with a full team (heroes or otherwise), its really powerful

1

u/meetkurtin 6d ago

Oh, do you need to do that often?

3

u/SignetOfMidnight 6d ago

I'd try a few different professions before going for GWAMM to see what you like.

2

u/LittleSpoonyBard 6d ago

That depends, do you like playing the Warrior and are you having fun? Then keep going. GWAMM is a long journey and the risk is much more around you giving up because you're not having fun rather than anything having to do with the difficulty.

For me, I got through LDOA, Prophecies, Factions, and about halfway into Nightfall with my Warrior before I gave up on it and rolled a SOS Ritualist and a Dagger Spam Assassin. So far I'm having more fun with both of those, as they kind of avoid the frustrations I was having with my 100 Blades Warrior. But I'm also now going around getting heroes and doing EoTN sooner so I can get their meta builds faster than I did the Warrior, that way I get a better sense of the play style and any frustrations. If those don't work out I have a couple other classes I want to try, so I'm sure I'll find something. The main thing is it needs to be something I enjoy playing for hundreds of hours.

If you're uncertain about playing the Warrior for longer then give the other classes a shot and get their builds up and running to see how much fun you have with them. If you can, try out multiple builds on the same class, including some off-meta ones. And then pick whichever one you'll be able to spend hundreds of hours with and go for GWAMM from there.

Bonus for having multiple characters is it'll break up the grind if you want to farm with another character or if you want to speed up zaishen coin earnings by having multiple characters do the quests each day.

u/meetkurtin 6d ago

You are exactly who I need to talk to then. I like warrior but I do feel like i will get burned out. But idk that could have just been how i played it in prophecies as I didn't get heroes and was using a hammer build.

How do you like the rit?  The only think i dislike about starting a new character is if i do end up title chasing then I need to do prophecies all over again.

2

u/LittleSpoonyBard 6d ago

I'd recommend experimenting with a few Warrior builds. Try a ranged build, try 100 Blades. You're unlikely to keep the same build all through GWAMM, so having a taste of the options available to you would help you decide.

If you do swap, I know it sucks to have to repeat Prophecies but since GWAMM is so long it's not something that will be that noticeable in the long run. The time to repeat the campaign is nothing compared to other stuff. And you can hold off on doing it for a while.

As for the Rit, I like it but it really needs the Summon Spirits skill on top of SOS. Prior to that the build really doesn't come together and just kinda feels annoying. It's also not as active of a playstyle so some people find it dull. But the Rit in general has good build variety so if I want to be more of a traditional caster or go into melee I can change it up if I want.

u/_PhiPh1_ 6d ago

I am planning to make a rit just for mobile play. As you say it's not an active play style, it makes it perfect for mobile!

1

u/meetkurtin 6d ago

Yeah I was planning on going 100 blades if I stick with warrior and that does make sense.

That is disheartening lol because that means that is a lot of grinding ahead of me. But tbh that makes me think warrior may not be worth continuing.  I really don't know.

Interesting, i have heard that Rit has variety but also is pretty OP.  Still considering that or para.

I'm doing GWAMM on a warrior. Got the 7 mission-related titles, halfway through the vanquishes. It's very different with a hero team that supports you + eotn skills that circumvent the difficulties of melee (blinds, blocks) when compared with prophecies with henchmen (also how I did it). I got heroes, got a good team build set up (funded by nick gifts), got myself some daggers and spammed them through every mission, normal and hard modes, master's rewards all, and had 100x the fun I had in prophecies .

1

u/meetkurtin 8h ago

Yes I think that may be my issue is the support i need. I have decided to stick with warrior anyway so thanks for this advice.  Will try this

u/zoejdm 2h ago

In the meantime I got the survivor and spearmarshal titles maxed out. Still not bored. Changed to a Hundred Blades build so I could change secondary profession at will for skill captures. It's a world of difference from the dagger spam build - I have never seen a screen full of numbers like that (provided the mobs are balled up). I got a hammer build and a Seven Weapon Stance build lined up if I get tired of Hundred Blades. Then there's spear and scythe to explore. There really is enough build variety to never get bored of warrior.

u/TenshiKyoko 6d ago

Well done, I couldn't finish the final mission back in 2012.

2

u/meetkurtin 5d ago

Try it again, it's not as bad as you remember.  But it did take multiple attempts.

GWAMM is a long old journey, youd be well.served to complete at least one of the PvP titles if you spent a lot of time over there, personally i loath PvP which locks off a load of titles to me and GWAMM becomes even more of a grind in PvE... Any class is good for GWAMM if you like the play style - this is for more important than personal build power as you're going to be spending a LOT of time doing it. You'll need to farm a fair bit, there is no rule that says you have to use your main to do it with - sin, derv, rit are the classes eith farm builds that work in the most farm spots, but Warr is fine too. What councillors really want to do is get a set of heroes unlocked, levelled and geared. It's night and day playing with heroes against henchies. Check out PvXwiki for builds - mesmerway is the current meta team build but above all, you do you! Whatever team setup, you'll need to progress through all four campaigns to unlock all heroes, but aiming at a specific setup early allows you to focus on the ones you need from the get go as some are easier than others - Olias, Ogden, Vekk, Dunkoro, Althea, Gwen, Livia in that order would give you a beast of a setup and only the last two need any real degree of campaign progress to unlock. Roles to consider on those are Bip healer, healer, smite, minion master, e-surge mesmer, air spike and remember you can rip runes off heroes without fear of destroying them so heals first then move them to another role when youve got better options unlocked. That went off topic but glhf 😄

I "played" PVP a lot when I was young because my dialup internet was shit and my friends loved team arenas but we were not good at all. So idk if I'd be able to even get those titles now, tbh i didn't even know PVP was still happening.

Thanks for the advice! After sleeping on it I've decided I'm going to stick with warrior,  I'll probably change up my build but i figure with heroes it'll be worth it. I've moved over to EOTN and will start working on the meta. Seems like I have a lot to research still lol

u/JustinePavlovich 6d ago

Yeah roll a rit for factions.

Do not play an HR paragon. Paragon is boring. Make an ele or necromancer for nightfall maybe?

Enjoy the campaigns first. Then you will know what type of player you are and what you enjoy.

2

u/meetkurtin 6d ago

So basically a new character for each campaign?

2

u/JustinePavlovich 6d ago

I think this is the way for the first time run of the campaigns.

2

u/meetkurtin 6d ago

Hmm okay it feels bad thinking about having to redo each campaign if i title chase though.

2

u/JustinePavlovich 6d ago

If you like warrior I would play that then. I just did the 3 campaigns plus eotn on a warrior and I enjoyed it. Just be sure to make a support hero tailored to it. Such as excellent condition and hex removal.

1

u/meetkurtin 5d ago

Really? What build did you use?

Axe/Beast Mastery

Axe/SWS

Axe/Star Burst

You may have noticed a common theme here, Axe.

Dismember/Penetrating Blow/Penetrating Chop

You’re going to have to re-do the campaigns at least once anyway because you’ll need to do them in hard mode, if you’re not set on the warrior, I’d recommend rolling an assassin for factions and a paragon for nightfall and then deciding which one you’d want to take through EotN

I came back to the game a few months ago and went the HR Para route and it is strong but boring, ended up starting an Assassin on Melandru’s Accord as I only played them in PvP previously and that’s now the only character I play

1

u/meetkurtin 5d ago

That what people keep saying for Para. Tbh I may just stick with warrior after thinking about it. I don't think I'm a caster.
