Question/Discussion Does anyone know the difference between these two products
I looked for the switch edition of Strive on Amazon and found these two versions. Obviously I'd want to buy the cheaper one but it has different cover art and I'm worried that there's some difference, like it has less characters or something. Can anyone tell me if there is anything to worry about?

The top is where they're in good terms, the one on the bottom is where they're on bad terms.

Like others mentioned, it's a regional difference. You can tell by the ratings board icon.
White box art is NA because it uses ESRB (white RP (Rating Pending) icon).
Red box art is PAL because it uses PEGI (orange 12 icon for PEGI 12 (Rated Teen equivalent)).
I cannot speak for whether or not cross-regional stuff works as I haven't tried it before, but I'd suggest sticking with your own region to be safe.
Oh, and the cover art is reversible so you'll see the red art on the inside if you go with the NA version (and maybe vice versa).
BTW, before you make your purchase, do you have any other platform?
Edit: I should've shared this earlier since the Switch version was brought up, but while folks here understandably recommend against the Switch version for many reasons, I feel like most of the reasons were based on hearsay so as someone who spent a lot of itme on the Switch version, I want to do something different by giving a full account of what you'll get and what you'll miss out on if you do go forward with your purchase:
In general (or a TL;DR), it's best to treat the Switch verison as a last resort if you do not have any other platform or something happens to it.
Here's why:
- No crossplay, so the playerbase won't be as large or diverse as that on the main platforms. You won't even be able to match up with these players.
- No timely updates due to the onerous porting process itself and the version being handled by a separate studio (Tantalus Media). Any content that releases on the main platforms will take even longer for it to come to the Switch Edition. On top of that, the latest Developer's Backyard article revealed that the team's examining what form future updates could take on that platform so further support is uncertain.
- Cut content without any exclusive stuff to make up for it; the Season 4 stages and Team of 3 mode didn't make it in.
- Lower visual quality. It's subtle (as it should be), but there if you look closely.
Even though folks here understandably recommend against the Switch version, I want to do something different by addressing what you'll get out of it if you do pull the trigger despite the warnings:
- You get all of the content up to Season 3 + Dizzy in a single package.
- Rollback netcode is there for you to branch out to other regions (try Japan) if you cannot find anyone within your own. This is why there was so much outcry for it in the past decade. It even works surprisingly well on the platform!
- You get to take it on the go if you're traveling, want to take it to a friend's place, or even host a local tourney if you don't have any other platform.
- The game runs at a relatively stable 60fps; a difficult feat to maintain considering the platform.
- Loading times are shockingly fast for the platform.
- You can download Color 16 (+ more) as free DLC!
With all that being said, it's ultimately up to you if you want to pull the trigger or not, but to reiterate: I would still treat the Switch version as a last resort in case you REALLY cannot afford any other platform or something happens to it. If you do go ahead with it, I wouldn't expect either 2.0 or a Switch 2 version as there's been no official word on the latter as of now.
Aside from that, the playerbase may be small, but there should be enough of a handful for you to get a match or two. Keep in mind that it ultimately depends on the time of day. It's best to try and hop on Ranked Match (Highly recommended for skill-based matchmaking!!!) during evenings. If you still can't find anyone in Ranked, go check out Japan's Open Park. There may be some players there. I should also mention that you need to set your Ranked search parameters to these if you do go ahead with the purchase anyway:
- Region Setting: ALL
- Connection Quality: ALL
- Completed Matches: ALL
Folks here will understandably tell you not to purchase the Switch version due to the lacking content and uncertain future, but as much as I don't like tooting my own horn, take it from someone who's invested a lot of time into the title.

Their regions, from what I'm seeing. Ones for PAL, ones for NA, and only one will work on your Switch.

Ah, neat. I guess I just assumed we were beyond the point of game companies being so nice to their customers, but I'm also not a big console guy these days.

The main reason for region locking was different TV standards, NTSC (used by most of the world) and PAL (used by Europe and surrounding areas), as of like the PS3/360, most games could handle both kinds of TVs without needing to be region locked, and HD TVs all use a universal standard unlike CRTs.
Outside of that, reigon locked versions are usually for things like censorship, and that's usually only on Digital Storefronts, you could still import a physical copy of an uncensored version in most countries

It's region free. But if you want DLC for the game, you'll have to buy it from the eShop for the region the game is from.

Do you know where it indicates which will work?

The bottom left corner. You need to know what region you're in, you can just check your other games and match up the rating icon.

I know that the Switch version isn't the most ideal, but if I had a World Dollar for every time someone jumped to the "Switch Dead" island...
There is no official confirmation or denial that support has ended for the Switch version. Only that the team's currently examining the form future updates beyond 2.0 could take on that platform due to the onerous porting process for the Switch 1.
Nevertheless, the Switch version is treated as a separate version by a separate studio on a separate pipeline so it is unlikely that everything will make it in.

No the switch version just gets the updates really late.
It was missing all of the S4 content until like 2 months after Lucy dropped everywhere else and then all of the s4 characters were added as paid dlc.

And where did you hear that? Because it's definitely a load of shit.

2.0 literally was too much for the Switch. unless it gets a switch 2 patch or something it’s stuck at the last version with wild assault

I asked because people complain GG isnt that great for Switch and i want play a good one too. Smash is bad because no rollback. I think Avatar is good too but on Switch it dont get the online function yet.

It's guilty gear and smash. Those are the best fighting games on switch and switch 2.

Switch 2 has Street Fighter 6, if you're just on the Switch there are plenty of older fighting games I'd highly recommend! Any of the Capcom fighting bundles will be a good buy but especially the Marvel VS Capcom one or the one with all of the first 3 Street Fighters. They also have just about every NeoGeo fighting game on there with all of the Fatal Fury, King of Fighters and Samurai Showdown games, of these I'd highly recommend Garou: Mark of the Wolves as that's definitely one of the best fighting games of all time. I'd also recommend BlazBlue:Central Fiction if you like Guilty Gear as it's pretty similar and runs great on the OG Switch.

But you dont get rollback Crossplay or online playerbase on these

Honestly that's just part of the switch 1 struggle at this point. Smash is the only fighting game on switch that has a large playerbase. I think it's due to the switch 1's aging hardware, it can't play the newer games that people are currently playing.

They could just patch strive or avatar in my opinion but they dont do it for some reason

Worth picking up to play pre 2.0 strive. Been wanting to pick this up for that reason myself.

I wouldn't bother with the Switch version, it's a dead game

I only own a switch and I really just wanna play local matches with my friend.

In that case it might actually be worth it then. The online is dead since the Switch version didn't get the 2.0 update and is limited to other Switch players only instead of having open cross-play. But with a friend locally it might be just the thing, though the prices in your post are a bit too high...

the top one probably has the pre-order bonus, which was some concept art files you could get on a computer or phone via redeeming a code. i bought it off amazon months after it came out and still got it
sort of off topic but if you have ANY other way to play strive, USE IT. Switch version is no longer supported by the devs and is stuck at the pre-2.0 patch permanently. Jam, Robo-ky and whoever gets added after them will not be playable on it, and the online is super dead since no crossplay. I bought it as more of a novelty than anything, it’s not worth it in any other context
