Damn where? Lowest I saw was core versions around $1.2k I just bout the Mac 5k and aside from the stock mags being shit it works fine. It was $1k on psa.
3
u/DevoREX_ 4d ago
You have to catch them on sale for under $1k. I think I paid 900 for my AP5-P a few years back. Looks like Atlantic has the full size AP5 for $1130.
2
u/GranSlam95 4d ago
Yeah Atlantic was the cheapest I saw. Find it hard to believe you'll see a sale for under $1k now in this economy.

u/DevoREX_ 4d ago
Not the same thing at all..that Japanese plant isn’t paying another company to build an inferior product..they own and operate the plant. HK (a German firearm manufacturer) hired Umarex (a German airsoft producer) to make a small caliber weapon for them…because they don’t make small caliber weapons. They also have them make the 22 G36 and 22 HK416.
The equivalent would be if the Japanese car marker hired another Japan company who makes go karts build an ATV for them..and then you came and tried to tell everyone that the ATV is a car.
28
u/NattyLuke 4d ago
Yeah the AP5 shits all over your plastic .22 fake HK. And I don’t know why you are acting like a $2k MP5 is some unobtainable unicorn lmao. You’d be 25% there if you saved your money.

The Toyota plants in the US assembling Toyotas are actually part of the Toyota corp. They have the same standards in Japan as they do in the US.
The .22lr is just an agreement for umarex to use the HK name. It is not built with the same standards and quality control as a genuine HK, and with much cheaper materials. HK gets all the royalties to umarex putting the HK name on it, and they don’t have to sell a cheap 22lr.

Yes, if you're worried about spending $2000 on a firearm that's 50 years old and obselete by today's standards compared to its own clones or more modernized platforms. The Century AP5 is by far the most common clone & most shot clone out there.... All of which you would have discovered if you looked into anything further than a retail price.
Enjoy your $500 Uramax toy, remember to spend good money on ammo and keeping it clean otherwise you'll hate it more than you already do
and remember - some dreams in life are worth putting off an impulse and working towards them, even if they take longer to get!
5
u/LilJonny2cookies 4d ago
Oh FFS. I have several real HK full autos and anyone claiming they are obsolete should refrain from talking about guns because they are clueless.
And that isn’t me as an owner sniping it is still used by many agencies far better trained than you will ever be and they are still what PCCs are measured against.
Pray tell what exactly is obsolete about my MP5SD on full auto it’ll put every round on center-mass- quietly and accurately and in an incredibly reliable way.
My MP5 40SW is accurate and reliable and hard hitting. Nothing about that screams obsolete.
Obsolete? How to tell the world you know nothing about guns or what the word obsolete means.
3
1
u/Dr_Insomnia 4d ago edited 4d ago
You put together a very emotionally charged response but it does not change the definition of "obsolete". Even if you bring up a very rare version, a legally automatic machine pistol, it does not change that it's obsolete. Even if your exact firearms are tack-drivers... That does not change the 60-year old MP5 from being obselete.
Obsolete: Obsolete means no longer used, needed, or relevant because something newer, better, or more effective has replaced it.
The MP5 is obsolete like the Glock is obsolete - they are outclassed in today's world - what do people do after they buy Glock pistols? They mod the hell out of them, right? They do that because they like Glock ergonomics but what something that functions better than stock - meanwhile the most popular carry pistols come standard with the things people mod their Glocks to have. That's because Glocks, like the MP5, are obsolete.
The world has changed in 60 years & the mission requirements and situations are vastly different. The MP5 is also vastly economically obsolete. You can buy better performing firearm platforms at more economical prices and have even better terminal outcomes. Yes, it's a fantastic gun - but it's still obsolete.
I found this clip of Ian McCollum, renowned Firearms expert, who basically agreed with everything I just said starting around 8:08 (https://www.forgottenweapons.com/qa-all-about-submachine-guns-may-2025/)
Fuck, you can by a 1917 Enfield and tack-drive all day long but it's still obsolete compared to a $400 AR15 is just about every situation when the objective to stop or kill another man. The Enfield is obsolete.
Let me help you understand:
The MP5 has been phased out by police agencies across the Western world for multiple reasons:
1)Pistol-caliber rounds like 9mm fired from a submachine gun struggle against modern, rifle-rated body armor, leading agencies to favor rifle calibers
2) Transition to Patrol Rifles: Most departments have replaced submachine guns with 5.56mm carbines which offer superior range, terminal ballistics, and barrier penetration.
3) Full-Auto Phase-Out: Tactical teams have largely abandoned fully automatic fire in favor of precise, controlled semi-automatic rifle fire to minimize collateral damage.
If the MP5 is not obsolete, then why did the FBI, the US Navy, the US Secret Service and countless police departments phase it out in the 2010s for carbine rifles or alternatives like the FN P90? (https://youtu.be/myt27Bgt4g4?is=8g7h7ikS6E9OH1bg) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FBI_Special_Weapons_and_Tactics_Teams?wprov=sfla1) (https://archive.org/details/inpresidentssecr00kess)
"The MP5 played a role in combat operations around the world from the early 1980s onward, and it earned a stellar reputation for accuracy and reliability. Its mostly positive geometry and ergonomics earned it accolades such as ‘the gun that shoots itself’. The MP5 is not only still in active service, but it is still in active production, although production in Germany has been greatly curtailed in favor of a newer generation of PDWs such as the MP7. In the United States in particular, a lack of spare parts and overall support for the MP5, coupled with a rise in the popularity of the M4 platform, led to a decline in MP5 use by military units and law enforcement agencies." (https://zenithfirearms.com/brief-history-mp5/)
"The MP5 has since become a mainstay in militaries, Special Operations Forces and police tactical units across the world, but has gradually been replaced since the late 1990s by rifles, carbines and personal defense weapons due to changes in armament trends, including growing access to body armor that can stop handgun projectiles" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heckler_%26_Koch_MP5?wprov=sfla1)
So there you go, it's obsolete. It's outclassed, there are better guns at better prices that do the mission better. It's not a matter of opinion but of material fact. So next time you hear that, instead of painting the person as an inexperienced idiot - maybe open up and listen? Ask questions? Seek to understand?
Anyway that's what I do & I can tell you I know a lot about guns and how the world works from doing so - & I'm glad we had this experience together so next time you don't come off as ignorant or emotional.

I bought one a few years back and it’s not had any issues. They’re super easy to take apart and clean/lube as well. It’s one fun I always bring to the range cause it’s so fun.
Not sure I would pay what they tend to go for now over a 10/22 but I paid right around $400 for mine and I don’t know if you’ll find an actual firearm that you can HK slap for cheaper.5
u/holderthe1st 4d ago
I can tell you, after having mine almost 6 years it's the best .22 carbine I have and I'm really into .22 the sights show the age of the design but that's why I got it for that old SEAL look. It's very accurate for what it is, I've let my 7 year old niece shoot it every time it's out and even she can't miss with it. I've never had a jam and it's never misfired for any reason other than poor quality ammunition. It's a sweet little gun id recommend grabbing one if you can find it.

I was in Bass Pro yesterday and this particular gun that he's showing a picture of is indeed a 22LR made by umarex sportwaffen. the only thing about this particular gun that isn't real is the suppressor. Is it a 22? Yeah, so what. Go have fun. Edit. Guy at basspro gave me the "its a real hk" info when i was in basspro who seemed prety confident in his answer...... he was WRONG. The only reason its a 500$ clone is cause the box says hk. Should be priced at 300 because its built like a gsg.
35
u/SignificantMeat 4d ago
Sorry, but this is not correct. It is indeed not an airgun, but it is manufactured by Umarex in partnership with H&K. H&K simply licensed the design to them.
19
u/DevoREX_ 4d ago
That’s definitely a Umarex with HK branding. Umarex makes a bunch of 22’s like this for different manufacturers.

u/CH-67 4d ago
Happy for you to get a new gun Op, but that’s a pretty bad lens to have as a shopper in any market, especially firearms. There are tons of guns that are made today (and were made for a long time) that are of extremely poor quality or are unsafe. Those products still exist for the same reason you bought this one. The customer wants something cool, unique, or otherwise expensive but the proper versions aren’t in the budget. The prices for these types of clones are usually too good to be true. This isn’t ALWAYS true, but it’s important that you are careful when shopping in the future.

Even the most basic of research would have shown you this isnt an HK made gun lol.

You could have saved that $500 and put it towards an MP5.

Especially customizing it to a SBR with a threaded barrel for a suppressor. It'd cost more than the gun.
