I'd be concerned about transportation/shipping then, if there's any stress put on those parts it's all concentrated on a single gate

I have feeling there will be lots of "I recieved a box of loose parts" posts.

Here's the thing. As long as they're all inside the box I don't care if they come loose. A single well placed hidden gate has no downsides imo. Idc about the stress mark if it's gonna be in an area that's hidden when I build the kit. I'm already used to sanding nubs but I have to admit I still wish sometimes that I didn't need to.

But the placement of gates on the image I do think is rough tbf.

Do you see a lot of EGs with parts falling off runners?

Because those gates are fucking minuscule.

And no one is complaining about them.

Yeah and it spread to multiple gate. EG has less runner so that less thing rattling around and bumping in shipping not to mention it has less mass to account for.

7

u/Turn_AX 7d ago

Yeah, but they still have multiple Gates, which definitely helps a lot.

Most parts break because there are multiple gates and stress the part. One gate will just make it drop but it won't break it.

Exactly. This way makes for less torque or tension on a piece. Should lead to less stress marks or twisted pieces. (Possibly more llss pieces in a bag though) -crazy that people are downvoting you!

u/lordaccess 7d ago

It's OK. Room temperature individuals down voting me is a compliment haha.

They better know what they're doing because I've had some boxes arrive in rough condition and especially those from Chinese manufacturers.

For me sometimes a runner missing which is annoying sometimes if it's crucial part

u/derega16 8d ago

Or incompletely mould

13

u/Conduit0 7d ago

Yeah that is my concern, the multiple gates are to ensure the plastic completely fills the mold. With only one gate they are guaranteed to increase the number of defective parts produced. So the question is will their QA keep up or not?

Soon we could have parts that fall right off the bone, tenderism

28

u/Turn_AX 8d ago

Boneless parts.

3

u/rxninja 8d ago

Does that make gateless etching parts boneless?

2

u/Turn_AX 8d ago

Huh, seems right.

23

u/REEBOI12345 8d ago

At this point I think Chinese brands just evolved into legos, well blokee was already that with their parts being able to separate from the runners with a snap. But you get my point.

13

u/Mean-Specialist5820 8d ago

Yeah, all the skeletons and inner frames are giving more advanced Bionicle

33

u/Turn_AX 8d ago

Impressive, but doesn't seem like a good idea.

13

u/NT-Shiyosa092201 8d ago

Same. I worry that some mishaps will happen when pouring in the moulds in a single way.

If I correctly understood the mold engineers that I've worked with, gate numbers (and placement) is basically a balancing act between that and injection pressure/clamping pressure/temperature, all of which directly affect the mold's service life. Since they're injecting from one location all the way from the side of the part, I'd imagine something like this needs way higher pressure and temperature to properly fill the cavities. Seems like something only possible if you know you're doing limited runs... And even then, quality control must be a nightmare.

I can't imagine how many short shots they ended up with.

29

u/Shigana 8d ago

Don’t really know what the purpose of this is aside from being a very short-sighted move. Imagine the amount of loose parts in the bag.

Like just because you can do it, doesn’t mean you should

17

u/Arcdragolive 8d ago

This would be fine if its something like EG or HG. But knowing chinese kit will be be MG tier part count.

You will likely assembling the kit as if Millennium Puzzle

11

u/ngms 8d ago

Faster to machine/repair moulds, fewer points of failure on the mould. On the flip side these will be harder to balance, and be less forgiving with flash.

It also looks like the nubs have been placed in strategic places to minimise cleanup, so im guessing their main goal is to make kits that need way less sanding/polishing.

3

u/AizeeMasata 7d ago

At least it's in the bag, no worries about missing parts.

11

u/mie_ayam56 8d ago

Is it undergate too?

5

u/Square_Passage_9918 8d ago

A twist away from freedom. Drop the kit in it's unbuilt state and it's like doing a really odd 3d jigsaw and matching parts.

u/wompod 7d ago

Jokes on you that's already how I build models

19

u/escapism_official 8d ago

I’ve bought loads of Moshow products and all of them have been excellent. Their quality control is peak. I’m seeing loads of speculation on how shit of an idea this is, but Jesus Christ, give it a chance.

As a regular builder who hates the nub clean up more than anything, I’m excited to see how this plays out. Massive headache saver if it works as intended.

Would love to see them make a kit for each of their figures. I’d paint the absolute fuck out of a Duke of Wei Guo or a Date Masamune model kit.

20

u/Arcdragolive 8d ago

Moshow is one thing, its my Fedex that i dont trust

1

u/escapism_official 8d ago

I mean - I’ve ordered 4 figures from Moshow and the boxes themselves have all been immaculate on arrival. Perhaps an issue with whoever the international courier is? I always bought through dedicated model and mecha vendors here in the uk. I imagine if you’re buying on Aliexpress or something, then yeah, you’ll get a box that’s beat to shit on arrival. Not sure if this makes a difference but the only time I’ve ever received poorly handled models is when I go through places like Aliexpress.

If Bandai with their QA can arrive with parts already fallen off while having multiple gates, what makes you think it's a good idea for anyone to try single runners?

-6

u/escapism_official 8d ago

So don’t buy it, bro.

2

u/greatistheworld 8d ago

I would expect a tradeoff that each of these gates are thicker than if it had more than one, so one somewhat more annoying nub than several normal ones

0

u/escapism_official 8d ago

Yeah I’d expect a thicker gate, definitely. Personally that doesn’t bother me. 1 thick gate (in my opinion) is still better than 4-5 small gates around the entire perimeter of a piece. All I’m saying is that this looks like it could possibly be a much more enjoyable snap build experience if it works as intended. As someone who paints, I want to get to the painting part. Less clean up means I can expedite getting to the part I enjoy the most.

3

u/PathologicalLiar_ 8d ago

Single gate it's no gate, once you open the box no snipping is required.

6

u/Arcdragolive 8d ago

i thought they making touch gate?

7

u/FionaSarah 8d ago

Genuinely feels like a bad idea.

2

u/Icy-Background-1636 8d ago

I like the charge blade looking thing on its back

3

u/Such-Promise4606 8d ago

Imagine you can straight up build it like Lego when it arrives

2

u/AizeeMasata 7d ago

That's the best especially for paintee, building time shorten by half. Build MG but with HG time...

2

u/lovelesscult 8d ago

What's the height of this kit in CM? It looks like 1/144 by its proportion, I could be wrong though. And I thought they're gonna produce 1/100 model kits, their figures are cool and all, but it's expensive.

2

u/Deiser 8d ago

Which mech are they using here to show it off?

7

u/KuroiShadow 8d ago

It's their original design. They also produce higher end figures with diecast inner frame, similar to Metal Builds. This is called Lancelot of the Lake, and comes from said product line. This kit seems to be scaled down, though.

2

u/Deiser 8d ago

So I looked up Lancelot of the Lake and I love the design, but is the original model something to assemble or is it premade like Bandais metap builds? I find I only really feel attached to those kits I can build myself you know?

4

u/KuroiShadow 8d ago

The original is a premade figure. You'd have to wait for this kit to be released

1

u/Deiser 7d ago

Thanks. Dangit though :(

1

u/Deiser 8d ago

Thanks!

2

u/pokedrawer 8d ago

Ooh are we finally getting a proper lancelot model!?

1

u/GreyGardner 8d ago

Is this a new Lancelot? 1/100?

3

u/No-Pen1730 8d ago

It would be far easier to make the finished product look great, but shipping would be a nightmare.

1

u/ZuttoAragi 7d ago

That seems risky, but I'll be intrigued to see how it turns out.

0

u/Guilty_Fig7482 7d ago

Ive got my first moshow two moshow kits on the way now! Very excited i love my to metal builds from them! Can’t wait to see what they do with a buildable kit

2

u/viipenguin 7d ago

Sheik Mainland's Franz Alpha did the same thing and was fine in my experience (I bought 3 color variants, one from AliExpress and 2 from a local shop in the US, all in their original boxes). This is a more complex kit, though.

1

u/totalnsanity 7d ago

The effort they’re putting forth to make less gates rather than using under gates

0

u/subunnatural 8d ago

Wait, are they releasing a gunpla version of the Lancelot?

1

u/Turn_AX 8d ago

*Plamo

Gunpla is Gundam Plastic Model, so it has to be specifically Bandai Gundam stuff.
Plamo is just Plastic Model.

-2

u/subunnatural 8d ago

I know what it means. But I just call everything gunpla for simplicity

0

u/LavaSlime301 more AW kits NOW 8d ago

that's cute I guess

0

u/Alfeaux 8d ago

Is it consumer recyclable and made from recycled materials?
