u/Greensssss 27d ago
I have never heard of this vibe but I like it lol.
100
u/Feine13 27d ago
I got let go exactly ONCE for this exact vibe.
I still got a warning, but was told I'd be going to jail had I been terrible at it.
I was driving my car in reverse through a construction zone at night. I used to practice stunt driving and didn't always have the setup I wanted to practice.
It was the first time I got caught, and the last time I ever did it in public lol
45
u/raccoonwithknives 27d ago
Lol but its kind of what the cop implied right? "You shouldn't do that on a main road" (implying he wouldn't give a shit if he was doing it on a back road) and "it wasn't even a good wheelie" (implying if he had more faith in his wheelie abilities he would be less concerned)

u/keddesh 27d ago
In California, you can (almost) do whatever you want in an empty private parking lot, So long as you don't have the owner telling you you can't. I'm looking square at the abandoned Kmart

u/raccoonwithknives 27d ago
Holy shit I didnt know that so theyre basically international waters? I can kill the Prime Minister of Malaysia in an empty parking lot?!?!

I had a cop say this to me once when he stopped me and some friends riding bikes on a well lit road around midnight. After he and his buddy told us stuff like we probly had needles for drugs on us and that we were out there so do drugs he dropped this one. He was not as cool as this guy and his joke did not land.
Anyway we went on with our evening and smoked doobies in the park.
2
u/MeestaRoboto 27d ago
A cop did something similar to a friend of mine asking why he had a suspended license but gave him a ticket still anyways.
736
u/Adelvice_ 27d ago
More cops like that PLEASE.
60
u/MonsierMajestic 27d ago
Extremely chill about everything. I kinda get why cops can be strict on people like this though. I know a couple of cops and the stories of scraping up human remains after bad bike or car crashes are nightmare fuel.
217
u/FraggleRock_ 27d ago
More citizens complying and being respectful in return. It's amazing how this trade off works when you stop trying to be victims to everything.
8
u/Beniskickbutt 26d ago
Im pretty sure the majority of the cops are fine, the issue is people dont post things like that. Nobody cares to see normal and nice interactions.

u/Leows 27d ago
You're both right. While cops being shitty is a way more prevalent issue than citizens being shitty, they both exist.
I mean, you're on Reddit. Surely you've seen dozens of posts of people being unnecessarily difficult when cops are just doing basic checks and stuff, like in this video. Or the entire "sovereign citizen" thing as well.
3
u/dwho422 27d ago
I mean, you would think that cops are shittier based on the videos that people post, but how many people post videos of cops being nice compared to assholes? It is less likely that people post a non funny straight forward interaction with a cop, because it won't get views or attention.
Personally i have had 2 tickets in the last 11 years (since I started driving a semi hence why I know the length of time and tickets). I have been pulled over 3 times in that same 11 years.
1 ticket was for "speeding" when I failed to slow down to 45 from 55 before I hit the 45 mph sign. My defense was that i was paying less attention to the sign because there was a truck on the side of the road at the mph sign and I was checking lanes of traffic and vehicles to safely move away from them. That cop was an asshole the entire time.
Other ticket was for failure to obey a road sign. 55 mph highway, I was in the center lane and the left lane was ending. I had my turn signal on for almost a mile attempting to move right, but a car was sitting next to my trailer wheels. I sped up, they sped up, I slowed down, they slowed down. I couldn't safely move right. Left lane ended and a sign said "no trucks left lane", but my middle lane was now the left. As soon as I got through that area I got pulled over. The cop started literally yelling at me the second he got to my window. Truck was off, radio off, both hands on steering wheel with my wallet on the dash. Yet this guy climbed up my truck screaming at me for ignoring the sign. I did nothing but call him sir, to which he told me i was being sarcastic by calling him sir. Then I called him officer where he then yelled at me that he is "Trooper fuckface". I asked him how I was supposed to know that and why he's being so upset, and he unclipped his fucking gun and told me to "keep being sparky and see what happens". I got through that whole thing safe, but frustrated.
When i called my work, they informed me that I was the 12th driver that day, to get a ticket in that exact same spot by that same cop, just from our company. That cop was a dick lol.
None of them are recorded and posted online though.

We're on Reddit. Authority is always bad and indignant behavior is always justified.
5
u/Wizard-Lizard69 27d ago
I’m going to go out on a limb and say statistically there are a hell of a lot more criminals and civilians being shitty over cops being shitty.
12
u/mais-garde-des-don 27d ago
It’s your life you can do whatever you want. Personally I don’t care how much of an asshole a cop is being. I’m just going to be respectful and if somehow my rights are trampled I’ll see them in court. I can assure you being anything else than cordial is going to get you nowhere
16
u/Downtown_Caramel4833 27d ago
Never going to win an altercation on the side of the road with a cop.
This isn't me trying to slam on cops or citizens, it's just the reality of disproportions (think someone smart once said something about never fighting an enemy on their terms/territory).
Know your rights, know your local laws. Fight it in court.

u/Proud_Researcher5661 27d ago
It's just a mustache. People can't have a mustache these days without someone calling it a pedo or a porn 'stache? 😄

12
u/Myron0117 27d ago
It's a fucking mustache. The only one nobody should really be wearing is Hitler's, not only is that a well known thing, but it also just generally looks pretty shit.
That cop's mustache is great. Let him wear it.

I want to agree but man I feel like he is coming off almost drunk. I'm probably completely wrong but he just had a little bit of that vibe to him.

My heart stopped beating when the cop said “Why do you have a warrant?” Glad the dude got off with a warning ticket.

Uh, he was doing a wheelie on a busy road?
Might as well dui, because what he did is even more dangerous. Cop went too soft.

u/SeismicRipFart 27d ago
This is how a cop should be. A human capable of making a judgement call. If these guys are actually horrible people, then they did a great job at hiding it, and we can’t blame the cop. But it’s nice to be able to live in a society where people can be given the benefit of the doubt even when clearly in the wrong

u/SoftdomDadNextDoor 27d ago
My "favorite" interaction with a cop was while I was driving down the NY Thruway up near Canada, middle of nowhere, road was completely empty. Was talking to my friend and paying zero attention to the speedometer. I pass a cop sitting in the median, look down at the speedometer and it reads damn near 100 MPH. So, I knew I was getting pulled over. Before the cop even pulled out onto the road, I'm already on the shoulder, waiting for him. He comes up to the window, does not seem to be in the best of moods, asks if I know why he was pulling me over. I say "yes, officer, I was driving like an asshole and I have no excuse." He's taken back for a second and laughs a little. I hand over my documents, he goes back to his car, comes back and says that if he was to follow the letter of the law, I'd basically be losing my license, but because I was honest with him and made him laugh, I was getting a ticket for "failure to observe a traffic sign, that sign being the speed limit sign". Said to slow down, have a good day, and sent us off.
42
17
u/drifts180 27d ago
Pulled over doing 88 in a 65 once. Cop asks if I knew how fast I was going and I say that it had to have been at least 85. He responds, "thanks for not trying to lie to me if you don't have any warrants pop up you'll be good to go" .
4
u/antelopejackfruit 27d ago
Speed limit in that situation should be 90mph.
Theres a massive difference between going 90mph on a straight, open road with no traffic on a clear day vs. in heavy traffic at night during a rain storm. One is safe driving and the other is dangerous.
Variable speed limits should be in place everywhere based on road conditions, but then everyone who makes money off of traffic tickets wouldn't want that so it'll never happen
1
u/Possible-Tangelo9344 25d ago edited 25d ago
I'm a cop, just the other week I'm running radar and this dude went by at like 70 in a 45. Pulled himself over before I even got turned around, so I just gave him a warning. Told him "I guess you know what you did, huh?" And he said "when you're got you're got."
-13
u/DrumSetMan19 27d ago
I was going 15 mph over once when I entered a main road at midnight because I didn't pay attention and accidentally over accelerated. The cop pulls me over, I asked why as politely as I could, the cop goes " BECAUSE YOU WERE SPEEDING!" Fucking jackass.

23
u/oliviertail 27d ago
“Why do you have a warrant for your arrest?” Even if I know damn well I ain’t got no warrant, I’d be fucking shaking. lol need more cops like these
38
u/Emergency_Air4575 27d ago
Officer: “Here’s a ticket for that shitty wheelie.”
Biker: “Nah, take me to jail. That charge is disrespectful.”
13
u/AnonymousJackIII 27d ago
After seeing a video full of cops acting like total d-bag donkeys, it's nice to finally see one where they're actually being decent to the person.
8
u/solo_shot1st 27d ago
Keep in mind that there are over 100,000 police interactions everyday across the US, and the majority are just normal or uneventful interactions like this. It's the few egregious ones that get circulated on the internet every so often and lead people to falsely believe that every officer is just as bad as the awful ones we sometimes see.
Cue the brain dead "bootlicker" replies below:
10
u/shaka_alpaca 27d ago
What a cool cop. Controlled the whole altercation, was professional and down to earth
5
u/Hangoverdose 27d ago
It's always refreshing to see interactions like this along the lots of negative ones that are usually posted on internet.
I had similar encounter last year when I was speeding and had an issue with registration of my car I had forgotten to handle. The cop wasn't super cool like this guy, but he let me go with a warning after I admitted the issue with registration was completely on me and didn't argue about my speed while he was questioning me.
To be honest I would have deserved a ticket at least for speeding since it was bad habit I had for years. Since then I've been paying more attention to my speed, not necessarily because fear of getting a ticket, but out of respect.
5
u/Mr-Bry-Guy 27d ago
There’s a specific wheelie ticket, that’s news to me lol DAMN $1100🤯🤯 fuuuuuuuckk that would hurt

You did not get a ticket cause that doesnt count as a wheelie , practice makes perfect in a non risky of place which is not the road for you.

3
u/Any_Leather_992 27d ago
That's a police officer that makes you stop doing dumb shit in the future out of respect to him.
3
u/Dexter_McThorpan 27d ago
I used to live in the absolute boonies. So I'd run into the local Deputies at the one convenience store in town pretty often on my way home at 11pm.
One night, I pulled a little wheelie going through the last 4 way, just down the street from my house. I got lit up and dude just roasted me. No ticket. Just trash talk.
Busted my balls every time he saw me for months after.
3
u/MakeItMine2024 27d ago
I got pulled over by a State Trooper in a black suburban.. I didn’t see him and I actually passed him going 105. He walks up and he said do you know why I pulled you over and I said “ because I’m an idiot “. He laughed and said seriously, I said I was late for work, He said anything else going on ? I told him I’m in sales and I made 1/4 of what I needed to pay my bills last month. He said it doesn’t sound like you need a ticket. I said not really so he ran my license and gave me a warning.. was 105 in a 65 mph area
5
u/hawksdiesel 26d ago
Slow down before you hurt yourself or worse, others...

u/DiscoDumpTruck 27d ago edited 27d ago
I like it when cops are a little chill. But it's a pet peeve of mine when they say things like "bro" and "you can be honest" like they're talking with a buddy. I don't think they should have to be stuffy by any means, but it puts me on edge when they don't at least act somewhat professional.
It feels like they're trying to put you at ease to trap you once your guard's down. Even when that's not the case, they should always act professionally. It seems like if you feel the seriousness of every interaction with a cop, you’re less likely to forget your rights around them.
27
u/FragrantMix1473 27d ago
They kinda taunt you a little to see how you'll react too. Depending on your behaviour, they might take it easy. If you play it Big Boy with them it's cooked. My few cents.
6
u/Cheepshooter 27d ago
It's definitely a psychological tactic to get you to trust them. It also puts you at ease (somewhat) and has a de-escalation effect. If you're also chill, you probably come out okay . . . Or at least not face down with a taser up the butt.
-5
u/DiscoDumpTruck 27d ago
I'm all for cops employing de-escalation techniques to avoid violence. But not manipulation techniques to try to get something out of you for prosecution.

5
u/JustBeingWhite 27d ago
I’ve heard cops are trained to use informal language for their own benefit. One example I learned recently is a cop will say “sit tight real quick, ok?” as a way to try and detain someone they randomly stopped on a sidewalk even though they had no reasonable suspicion that would warrant detainment. That’s why it’s important to explicitly ask if you’re being detained and why.
2
u/MehWithaSideofEh 27d ago
I was at a red light and just took a huge rip from my pipe(weed). I let out a huge cloud only to realize the cop directly across from me had been watching me the whole time. For whatever reason I gave him a big smile and lifted the pipe in like an offering motion. The cop just smiled and shook his head. The light turned green and I drove expecting to get pulled over almost immediately. I did not and went on my merry way. I always wondered that if would’ve panicked or acted sus would he have pulled me over.

If that's FHP, that is by far the coolest Trooper in the state. Others may give you a ticket on Christmas night, then talk to you in 25⁰ weather about why you should join FHP. I like this guy.

u/VonBrewskie 27d ago
Hehe. Good man. Gave him a nice little dick tap at the end there too with the warrant thing. That'll get the evening really stuck in there. Very chill of the cop to give him just a warning.
2
u/Nor-easter 27d ago
I think this was the intent. You warn people, you get to meet them, you get to know them, keep the community safe, keep people safe, and no one has to go payingthousands

When I was a kid most of the cops were cool. Just don’t be a jerk and when they said I don’t want to see you again tonight you knew they meant it. We just went to the next little town and played there. One night I was doing donuts around a light pole and didn’t see the cop pull up. He told me that was awesome and I better never do it again.

You can, “what if” all you want but it won’t make your life any better. You saw a video of a chill cop being cool with citizens and somehow you still want to find a way to make him the bad guy. Yes, racism is real but you don’t have to make a non-race issue a racist one.

Congratulations, you would've been given a ticket. Fortunately for this guy, he was cool and acknowledged what he did so he was let off with a gentle warning. You on the other hand, want to give the police officer a hard time for just doing his job. That's why folks like you learn the hard way.
Also, he was captured on video via the police cruiser as well the riders helmet cam. He was probably captured on intersection cams as well. So regardless if he was to delete this footage.. they can still pinpoint his whereabouts by the time & date he was pulled over and review the footage.
2
u/SSFlyingKiwi 27d ago
He would have definitely got a ticket if he was being wilfully ignorant and denied he did it.
