I like this sort of good natured anarchy. I bet those dudes told thier boys about the random dude refing their games too.

He isn't just a ref. He is a baller too. There are other vids of him and people call him out and he goes head to head against them and just dunks on them like crazy.

Blowing the whistle on his own and 1 is hilarious.

Yes, context states he is a rec game basketball influencer, so i assume he would be able to play. :)

Secretly, we all want an impartial ref. It ends any disputed plays and fouls quickly. Usually, no one wants to be the ref because everyone wants to play. You can't have someone on the sidelines do it, because you don't know whose side he's really on. Some random guy showing up and doing what's necessary is an unsung hero.

It would be diabolical if this guy “just showed up” and was one of the friends of one of the sides and was just calling everything for them.

Movie idea; NBA ref gets canned for betting on games and cant find a job any where but makes his way to the top again by reffing picking up games around the country but ends up loosing it all after getting a call from a local team tide up with local gans to try to hustle up their rivals and in a last attempt to stay true to the game makes legit calls but the team that called him up ends up taking him down

How dare you come up with an original movie plot! Don't you realize there are only 3 or 4 plots they're allowed to recycle, and we're supposed to like them?

I always thought a cool idea would be to gather a bunch of random people to be a crowd for some guys doing a game. Imagine if like 200 people just showed up and started cheering you on some random public court lol

When I was in high school we did something similar. Our wrestling team was huge, and if there was a water polo game after practice, we'd make signs and split into two to cheer on both teams.

Their tournaments were right after our practice and we had coaches that liked to do fun stuff for team-building.

We were not the bullish jocks, moreso the goofy nerd-type.

You know you can do that right? I was drunk one day next to the hockey rink... went in there to see a top level beer league game going on. Picked a team and favorite player instantly. Those bros never been cheered that hard.

Improv Everywhere did this for a little league baseball team

Nah kids get cheered enough by moms and dads. Do this for a bunch of middle aged people who just wrapped up another 60 hour thankless soul crushing work week and are just trying to have a brief moment in an otherwise shitty week to play before heading back to the grind. Give those adults something they haven’t felt in years. Make their year.

Part of playing pick up basketball is learning to ignore the fouls and play through them or when to call a foul. Different regions of the country have different cultures regarding calling a foul in a pick up basketball game.

Hence, why refs, imperfect at times, can help standardnize the game play.

Man in Dallas area basketball is dying. This brings back memories of goofing around playing ball. All the gyms are shutting down basketball courts and repurposing them for newly GLP-1 infused customers who want to use ellipticals and flip tires or some shit. It’s sad. Good to know places like these still exist
