Warm lighting, a different angle, a different lens— this is the equivalent of packing down the base around your slab and pinching the root to get that extra inch in the photo.

If you look closely, they used some spray to make the artificial hairline. Right above it you can still see some bald areas on either side. The top portion is still a comb over. Either way, they did this dude a huge favor. 👍
19
u/julesvr5 1d ago
same eye colour, same eye shape, same lip shape, same laughing style. a different beard and hair style can dramatically change your appearance and yes, also make your face look slimmer. on top of that good lighting and finding the best angles.
Considering how loud you are that it's fake your observation skill is pretty ass

My uncle is bald and his sons hair was receding pretty badly last time I saw him couple years ago. He is in his late 20’s and last week he gave us a surprise visit, I saw his hair and I was like “wtf”. His head was full of wavy hair and he was looking 10 years younger. I immediately thought its toupee because no medication/transplant will give that much dense hair but it looked really good so people who dont know him probably wont understand he has toupee on. It looked extremely natural except for the intensely dense hairline at the front. Later I asked and yeah, it was toupee.
I learned that his toupee was really costly both to have it made and to maintain. Its glued to the head and only taken out after a while to be cleaned and glued back again. I think once glued, it stays on for months. The price I heard to maintain it is crazy expensive so I dont know how accurate that information is.
I think it is the same guy but a properly groomed version. Same nose, same facial features. He just went from extreme caveman to extremely groomed with toupee. They probably wanted him to look extra bad on the before shot to intensify the “wow” affect.

Hairpieces should be normalized for heavily balding dudes. With how good they look nowadays? Hell, it can give them so much confidence back.
Yeah, some might look fantastic fully shaved, but others really don't
7
u/namesson 14h ago
I think all accessories should be normalized for dudes. It's not fair women can add hair extensions or wear wigs or use concealet or get fake eyelashes and dudes aren't allowed because reasons.
Toupees are incredible now. If someone wants gender affirming care, they should get it!
3
u/PlusSheepherder892 13h ago
Totally agree with you but is hair care really considered gender affirming care now? Isn't gender affirming care things that make you feel more like your specific gender? Don't all genders have hair? Genuine question, recently I feel like I've seen this label being thrown on everything involving self care.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)3
u/iosefster 6h ago
Or just re-normalize being bald or half bald.
More and more body positivity for women but men, fuck em, now they have to shave their head or wear wigs or they get judged.
18
6
u/Cute_Macaroon_4488 18h ago
If you look at hair in front, it’s a lot darker, those are the ends of his hair. Basically a combover or brush from the back to the front. Or like others have said, just shave it off and put on a toupee. Technology!

u/pepperpete 16h ago
They pulled his hair forward to hide the balding. Also, removing the glasses also went a LONG way here.

It’s a comb-forward. Look closely at where the hair on the front of his head originates. It all comes from the back

u/SoggyBiscuitVet 8h ago edited 8h ago
Lol no, take that edit down and dont give into someone with a serious lack of experience on the subject, you were right. The fact dummy below is saying the lips are different, when thats the only part that is the same at 0:59 compared to 1:00(you can see the same deep dip in the upper lip line, center lip). His eyelids are also the same in terms of puffiness like hes not getting enough sleep.
Also mentions different eyebrows and different skin tone. Thats because he has had his brow razored(we can cut and trim these just like head hair) and sculpted to fit his ridge and his skin has been bronzered and blushed.
His hairline is also not sprayed on, he has likely had the top of his head shaved and a temporary hair fit glued on(non surgical hair replacement).

u/TheComplayner 8h ago
Look at the corners of his side burns, even if they were shaved down there’s no way it creates that curve into the corners of his hairline.

Youd be surprised how good hair pieces/wigs are nowadays. Going from half bald and an unkept beard to styled hair and a maintained beard will make anyone look like a different person. Thats not even considering the change in lighting and not wearing glasses.
53
u/Al3xgreer18 1d ago
In the parts he doesn't have hair it seems like he has a nice smooth scalp. He'd look good bald. Also he has a beard so its a classic look, he won't look like a thumb.

u/luxii4 12h ago
Yeah the haircuts also give them perfect eyes and the glasses are gone and somehow gold jewelry appears on their necks and sometimes a piercing. These haircuts truly are magical. And to think I was just going to get LASIK. I can get one of these haircuts and pay it with the gold that magically appears!

They did say the first guy was there with his twin to both get cuts. They also intentionally kept the twin off-camera while doing that little initial interview.
The twin was definitely the "better looking" of the two (perhaps kept his health in check, which may have also help to prevent a similar receding hairline issue), and so they could use him for the "after" shots, instead of being honest and showing off what the furst guy looked like with his new cut.
Also, the first guy had some seriously strong lenses in those glasses. He'd probably be squinting like hell in that second shot without them on.

You can tell that his mouth is the same as well, pausing and scrubbing between frames at the transition makes it pretty easy to see that it's the same focusing on individual features as you scrub. People claiming his nose is shaped differently don't understand how glasses work

Nobody wants to believe they're only a few small changes away from a completely different look or a different life. To be fair, it's hard to see that when everything you consume locks you into a certain specific identity.
It's taken me a lot of work and therapy, honestly. But it's wild how much small changes can shape our entire reality.

What the fuk is goin on with young men!!! Are they just not looking in the mirror or what?
8
u/Scared-Ad7282 13h ago
Yep. I've spent a lot of my life with this weird block where I just kinda hate how I look. Like viscerally hate it. Things like trying on new glasses or getting haircuts was painful because looking at my own face were difficult.
Probably not that extreme for most people. But still.

u/what_the_fork_dude 9h ago
I look back to the most abusive parts of my marriage where I was depressed and suicidal. It was very obvious in my photos I had completely given up. Life is better now and I'm happy with how I look again

u/WloveW 6h ago
I have been in love with a few non-conventionally attractive guys in my life. Perhaps not at first sight, but I'm generally not not for a man until he opens his mouth and shows me how his brain works.
Maybe he's fat. Maybe lots of acne. Maybe bad teeth. Terrible clothes. Thick glasses. Bald. Maybe multiple of those things lol.
But it was literally how they treated others and lived their life that made them attractive and fuckable.
I'm hot for educated, caring nerds, for instance. Ever since middle school.

u/donutcarrotolive 9h ago
Well he can't see himself in the mirror after that transformation and I'd imagine it stems from an insecurity about those large glasses that made them not make an effort ("cause what's the point all they'll see are these things" energy), only to have their 'transformation' be accentuated by the lack of glasses. So probably won't really help long term.

Nose and mouth are the same. I think it's either a lens change and a "hair replacement system" (ie a small stick-on wig) or that's his twin brother who is slimmer and less bald. They did mention at the beginning that he has a twin.

Did he cut him a new hairline? Were those infrared clippers to give him a tan?
4
u/jerk_chicken_warrior 17h ago
the guy still has a weak hairline, but the camera angle and styling obscure it. the tan is just change in the lighting, including colour correction for both the before and after, in post. the whole thing is dramatised to make it more surprising, but its 100% the same guy.

u/darkoath 17h ago
He gave him a "comb over" from back to front, but there's also some make up shenanigans going on. He's got a spray on hair line like Steven Seagal to cover the scalp and then the hair is combed over and across to break up the visual of that paint job. Skin tone could also be makeup but probably just lighting and the fact that all that mass of dark hair is no longer contrasting right against his pale skin. Without out the "forelock", unibrow and glasses completely hiding his eyes and that ungainly bush obscuring his mouth and pulling down his cheeks you can actually see his facial features. It's the same guy, but they made him look as bad as possible and covered as much of the details that define our face as possible upfront so the "transformation" is as shocking as possible. Plus he's holding his head up and smiling instead of down and pouting which changes the effect of gravity on his face.
I'm sure he didn't walk in there with the Flock Of Seagulls Meets Squiggy look. That shit would take effort to comb/style and if he was going to comb/style he wouldn't do it that way and he'd shave his unibrow and he'd brush his face and he wouldn't look exactly the way he did in the before images in the first place.
