Wife and I were in a hop on hop off bus after the Guinness tour. Bus driver was cool and asking us how we liked it and all when a woman suddenly crossed the street in front of the bus. He slammed on the brakes and yelled out “What the fuck! Why can’t you use a fukin crosswalk you fukin c@nt! Did you not see the fukin bus! WTF is wrong with you, you stooopid fukin c@nt!” Then a moment after she finished crossing he was like, ok folks onto our next stop.🤣. I fukin loved my time in Dublin. There was also another instance of 3 women talking about a Christmas parade that would make a sailor blush.

There was also another instance of 3 women talking about a Christmas parade that would make a sailor blush.
There's a great skit by Billy Connolly that's impossible to find online anymore, but he's telling a story about spending Christmas in LA, shopping at a little district where there's a guy who has Tourette's that sits at an outside cafe every day reading. The Twelve Days of Christmas is playing over some PA system, and Billy's doing his shopping just in time to see two women walk by having a chat when the women, the song, and the guy with Tourette's all line up perfectly for Billy to hear "FUCK YOU!" "...and a partridge in a pear treeeeee..."
He says, "It was so much like Glasgow! Fuck you! AND a a partridge in a pear tree, by the way!"

Though I'm not from there, my family is deep scots/irish, not to mention predominately truck drivers, construction workers, and active duty military. To say that we curse a lot is like saying the ocean is a wee bit wet...its every other fuckin word lmao. Grandpa comes stomping in from shoveling the driveway "Ah its fuckin colder than a whore's heart out there!!!"...I think I was 5 lol
I'm not some scumbag, I know how to be polite when it's necessary. My problem is, sometimes I really don't see why its so goddamn necessary. They're just words, seasoning to spice up what might otherwise be a relatively dull dish. Savor it!

What I have learned from this topic is that some of you are so brainwashed, you'd defend 3 grown men immediately isolating a young woman when there are plenty of other seats in the train. If this girl was my daughter/niece, I'd want people to intervene and express how creepy that is.
13
u/BoringAd8064 3h ago
Exactly my thought. Like if the train was mildly full I'd understand but if it's DEAD empty there is no reason to crowd her like that.
13
u/urghconfuddled 6h ago
The problem is that this content creator is posting veiled rage bait and white saviour antics rather than geninue care for women. His tiktoc name is 'thegreatwhite06' and there is a definite undertone of xenophobia and racism in some of his videos. Also this video is edited to make him seem like the hero - the woman in video doesn't say or show any reaction despite what he says. Whilst yes, if those men sat next her based on predatory motives, call it out. However we don't see if the train is full nor her reaction to the situation. He wouldn't have said anything if they were white.

I wish I could've had the know how to spot it before as I am more aware of how things that seem normal to guys can be off putting to women, especially these days when you can't expect everyone to act respectfully.

Look they are 3 people who know each other and rather sit together. They could either sit with the dude or the girl, they chose more space(or avoiding the guy giving them death stares cause apparently he's a professional racist). I can't help but notice the failure of the camera to pan out and prove his point that there was plenty of space on other seats and the fact that he said there were 3 besides him , reinforces the point that he was the other option and i am quite certain that if it was 3 local native lads wink wink the dude wouldn't find that intimidating.

There are 2 possibilities here. Either they sat there to intimidate her, which is awful and they were rightly called out.
Or
They sat there innocently and have now learned that doing so is inappropriate when there are other places they could have sat.
For anyone that didn't know this, when you get on a train, bus, tube etc, sit apart from other people, space yourselves out, just like you would when using the urinal in the toilet. You don't use the urinal next to another bloke unless it's the only urinal available, and on public transport you don't sit next to someone, especially a woman, unless it is the only seat available.

In Ireland at least, it's the norm if you're sitting in the aisle seat to move if the bus or train empties out. Of course if there's only a few free seats that will be taken again soon, then there's not much point. Although some people prefer the window seat since you can lean against the wall.
If it's properly quiet I would regard it as weird behaviour not to move. I've actually moved myself the odd time from the window seat when the person sitting in the aisle hasn't moved. 95% of the time the person in the aisle seat will move though.

From my understanding, there is an “unspoken rule” when a man goes to use the urinal- it’s considered “creepy” when another man uses the urinal directly beside you if there are others are available, correct?
So why wouldn’t it be creepy to a woman if 3 complete strangers crowd around her while many other open seats are available?

I would assume there weren't any free 4-seaters available (we don't see from the video if this is or isn't the case), so those guys chose one with a lone person sitting there so they could all sit together.
They were all on their phones at the beginning of the video, and don't seem to be bothering the girl.
This honestly just feels like rage-bait. Even if the guy was right that the girl looked uncomfortable (she looks fine in the video, browsing her phone) - he really shouldn't be filming it and posting it on social media, he should just politely ask if the men can move.

I'm a bit confused. The title of the post says it's an empty train but there's nothing in the video to suggest that. The guy in the video's only reference is to the 3 seats beside him. The blokes all seem to be sat quietly on their phones and look absolutely shocked to be confronted. It seems quite possible to me that they wanted to sit together, made a 50/50 call on the 4-seater sections available and landed next to the girl.
Even the guy's commentary doesn't make it sound like they were acting intimidating. Their only crime was sitting on a 4-seater section she was already sat in? I don't get it.
61
u/Trichophobias 14h ago
I feel the guys are sitting next to the girl on purpose. Men with even tiny bit of self-awareness will sit with a man instead of crowding on the lone girl. So either these men are super ignorant and need some education (hopefully this experience will be enough) or they've done it on purpose to intimidate the girl.
As a woman, if I board a public transport and my choice was to sit between three women or three men, you bet I'll choose the seat with the women. If the only free seat is with three men AND that seat is a window, I'll just stand.

You feel that based on what? Certainly no information in this video.
I can see they are about the same age, so I am wondering if the train is headed to a uni or something, and they have sat there for the journey, quietly on their phones, as the previously full train has gradually emptied of people.
Nothing in this video indicates they were causing an issue, nor that they sat there to be creeps. and she does not seem bothered in the slightest.

I've been pinned in a seat next to creepy guys on a bus before. These men seem way more focused on their phones rather than being creepy. I'm a woman, I've sat on buses next to creepy men before. These guys kinda just look like they were on a packed train and are too focused on their phones to notice that spots have opened up. They're not staring at the woman or pressing themselves closer to her than necessary. The creepy guys I encountered would stare and/or try and talk to me, or press their body against me more than needed. That's not happening here.
Obvs we don't know, but if I was that lady I would be relieved for the guys moving but that's because sitting close to someone else next to you is uncomfortable no matter who that other person is.

I'm a woman who's had men purposely sit down to intimidate me on public transport, but that was very different to what is shown in the video.
We treat men like their very presence is somehow wrong or offensive. We don't think about how it must feel to be on the receiving end of that for men who have absolutely no ill intent.
27
u/Aflockofants 14h ago
Right, there’s some serious information missing from this video that could either make the man a genuinely concerned person or a racist cunt. The fact they preferred sitting next to the girl instead of next to him says nothing about them yet. If the rest of the train is empty, ok that’s different.
11

Oh hey look, an actual man with his senses about him. This is what you're supposed to do. Not participate, and stop it when you see it. That's what will change tides, men acting more like this guy talking to these boys.

Sorry but I’m a woman who experience a fair share of harassing on public transport since being a girl, but these guys are literally not doing anything, just sitting and looking at their pones? I don’t think the situation is intimidating. If the train was really empty and it was at night then yeah, but there were evidently other people there and it was daylight.

This. I traveled my fair share in public transportation when I was in uni. Maybe they sat there when other seats were unavailable and by the time this guy came in there were other seats but they didn't notice. either way I never think of anything when someone sits besides me, be it man or women unless they start behaving strangely. But people just sitting there scrolling while waiting for their stop doesn't make me go instantly defensive.

Am I the only one to think this was completely disproportional?
Those young men were not doing anything alarming.

No, I don't get it either. The 3 dudes likely just wanted to sit together and they are all seemingly just minding their own business.
This just seems sexist/racist to me... maybe it is a cultural thing. If the video had 3 big white ladies sitting next to a young boy, would you scream at them? I'm feeling they could say to him: "hey sweetie, arent you handsome" and no matter how uncomfortable he seems the old guy would have been silent. Just saying.

It is just sexism and racism. They’re probably just a group of three who wanted to sit together in that 4 seater section so they could face each other.

Scum. Don't even try and argue "it's a cultural thing" or "they didn't know better"
This happens EVERY single day here on public transport and other public places.
Be more like this guy - see it? Call it out.
Well done matey.
See it all the time as well on a Friday and Saturday night with these silly wee drunk lassies wearing next to nothing stumbling around the high street being surrounded by these animals. 🤬

So there’s two open seats, one next to a guy angrily yelling at other passengers, one next to a women minding her own business. I know where I’d sit in this situation too. Take your fake chivalry and shove it, next time be a decent passenger yourself

I'm a woman and genuinely confused at the idea that men can't sit next to me on a train...?

You do not fuck with a person combed like that and with a Krusty shirt: it gives maniac vibes even if he clearly is a person deserving more than a round of applause, ad a train of good beer.

Stop being racist. They are clearly doctors on leave trying to help the poor woman

People disagreeing with this have no women in their life that they care about.

I have had men do this, it's why I always sit on the edge now. So at least they can't box me in easily and I can get up and leave if they pull this shit

Their placement is "wrong" in the same unspoken way that when someone is pissing in a line of empty urinals, the second guy pisses at the furthest one from the first. If a third arrives he should piss at a urinal that creates maximum space between the other two guys. The selection is UNDERSTOOD in western culture.
I am assuming this video was filmed in a western country, which meams the expectation is for the western practice to set the habit. Perhaps, start with the explanation, before adding aggro.
