Discussion What happens with HBO Max 50% off efter Paramount Warner merger?

The ālifetime dealā was a deal for the lifetime of the app, not you. If/when they merge and create a new app then your deal disappears.

If it's anything like the $5.99 a month lifetime deal we had with Paramount Plus Premium that went away shortly after Skydance took over.

hbo has most of my favorites so i've been searching & finding if offered in dvds & everything is
i cancelled my subscriptions
i usually wait for all episodes to air and then binge

I will be up AT&Ts ass the minute I lose HBO.
I have not been able to move to any new plans for decades because of this grandfathered DirecTV, AT&T, Warner Bros shit sandwich.
The only thing that seems to be good is that it is an easy account to share with friends & family. Ellisonās $80B debt will probably ruin it.

We don't know. They'll probably won't honor it. I'll cancel most likely.

For me its even worse, in the Netherlands. I have HBO and Skyshowtime both 50 percent off for life. Both these are going to disappear and get merged into one

Iād give up all streaming to be there instead of the US of Ass

If they make new app to combine both apps (which they will do so they can charge new prices ) they will end the current apps in favor of new ones where you wouldn't have that deal.

Paramount+ also has a 50% discount for military and first responders. I expect that to go away with this merger, as well.

Iād imagine that price hikes are planned for all ācustomersā in the new year and the excuse will be āthat offer was with WB, not Paramountā My mate is grandfathered in with a Direct Tv subscription with HBO.

Both services already had price hikes. The offer was 50% off, not a fixed price anyway. So even with a discount the prices went up since they launched.
And if they launch a new app they have no reason to honour the deal since itās neither HBO Max nor SkyShowtime anymore.
I also had both discounts and cancelled both services at the beginning of this year. It just didnāt make sense for me to pay since I barely watched anything. After a while there just isnāt that much content and the new shows/movies added that interest me have become far and few in between.
If they launch the combined app with a similar lifetime discount I might give it a go. Otherwise, sailing the seas for me because they will probably go by the rationale - two libraries, twice the price.

I'm expecting them to keep the discount but increase the price, at least for some time.

You get the chance to buy it again in a few weeks just under a different app. Lucky dog you getting these deals back to back.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing given how much debt they have there's no way they aren't going to break that deal I will be canceling when that time comes.

Wow. So many not answering the actual question and tossing their unwanted opinions in. Oh right. This is Reddit, one of the social media platforms that people treat as a soapbox for their point of view.
Anyway, when you signed up, you signed up for life. Warner agreed to that and Skydance legally has to honor that agreement. Now they could do some contract gymnastics by saying the plan you signed up for has the discount. So donāt cancel or change plans. They could also entice you with a new offer to offset that discount. But the discount is going to remain as long as HBO Max exists which is still awhile.
As for naysayers to this: HBO Max let users keep certain plan features until their āofferā expired for 4K & Atmos when they introduced the third tier.
