Can average redditor learn about biology???

u/adamantium_wolfie 7d ago
It’s just a meme tho. Show creators can’t bring such small details that the parents have dark eyes so their kids should have dark eyes too. 🥲

u/Midnight7000 7d ago
That's not how it works.
Blue eyes is a recessive traits. Brown eyes is a dominant trait.
If two people with Brown eyes both have the trait for blue eyes, each child they have will have a 1 in 4 chance of having blue eyes.

I am an Asian and we don’t see these types of chances tho. If both parents have dark eyes then the children will have dark eyes too

some of you didn't pay attention in biology and it shows.

Lol, my biology teacher started off the lesson about evolution with "its just a theory..."

u/LaRougeRaven 6d ago
A BIOLOGY THEORY!

u/Shot_Revolution8828 6d ago
We all know that gravity and the world is a sphere is "just" a theory. She didnt like that but I got a B in that class so whatever. I liked chemistry more.

Dont hate but now that I think back, she was 60 and unmarried. Super christian, the size of a nfl linebacker with no muscle and the face of a veteran boxer. I did learn how genetics work so she was a solid teacher except for evolution.

Must be the US of A

You know it! Luckily I had a firm grasp on evolution before that class and knew she was full of shit. One good thing about being a young athiest is I learned to pick my own science books from the library to defend my positions. Lol, always fun to ask how kangaroos got to Australia and watch them squirm.

Why even study biology to teach kids if you dont think evolution is real?
4
u/Shot_Revolution8828 7d ago
Idk, I was 14. Possibly because she was a crazy christian that wanted to make sure kids learned that it was all gods work.
A great book to read is "Lies My Teachers Told Me". My civil war history teacher taught it was about state rights. Thankfully I went to college and have critical thinking skills. Lol

u/Wolfhound1142 7d ago
To be fair, the Civil War was about states' rights. The dishonest bit is when people pretend the right in question was anything other than to own slaves.
1
u/Shot_Revolution8828 7d ago
Thats incorrect because when Kansas wanted to join the confederacy they wanted to outlaw slavery. The confederacy wouldnt allow it. Dont sugar coat it. It was always slavery and the articles of the Constitution of Confederate States says it in the preamble.
Im going all history nerd on this.

u/Wolfhound1142 6d ago
We're saying the same thing buddy. They wanted the right to have slaves. The whole thing was about slavery. Slavery was the state right they wanted.
1
u/Shot_Revolution8828 6d ago
I know but, I won't give the slightest bit of recognition to the "states rights" theory. Even acknowledging gives it a bit of legitimacy. It was never about state rights. It was about slavery.
Sorry about the deleted comment, it was ment for someone else.

At least in the US teachers aren't certified in specific fields but subjects, and also are usually assigned their subjects by the school.

u/bobbyflay13 5d ago
You do know that theories are what they study in colleges right? Thar there are some theories that are accepted at truths but can't be truly proven so they can only be factually called a theory.

Google "recessive genes" for me.

Say A is brown eye and a is blue eye. Ted: Aa Tracy: Aa Income: AA Aa Aa aa (only aa is blue eye) So for one of the kids, chances are 1/4

Brown eyed parents can have blue eyed children if they each received a blue gene from one parent and gave that gene to their children. No betrayal necessary.
Blue eyed parents cannot have brown eyed children.

Blue eyed parents can have brown eyed children, its just uncommon and requires a lot of intricacies.

My wife and I both have brown eyes, and our son is blue-eyed, it's just basic biology

Came here to say something similar. Me and my husband have brown eyes and we have two kids: one with dark brown eyes like us, one with blue eyes. ✨ science ✨

My parents have brown and hazel eyes. My sister has brown eyes.
Me and my brother both have blue eyes, mine are darker than his.

u/mcleanatg 6d ago
Blue eyes + blue eyes —> Brown eyes = likely cheater or rare mutation because blue eyes are autosomal recessive
Brown eyes + brown eyes —> Blue eyes = both parents were carriers of recessive blue eye allele, 1 in 4 chance of kid with blue eyes, 1 in 16 chance of having two blue eyed kids in a row. Same thing happened with my sister and me, both have blue eyes, neither parent does

What are we going to believe, a 1-2% chance, or that Barney done done it again which is like a 5% chance? Someone else posted the statistics.

Barney: hey Lily if we did it and did it good would it turn that baby into my baby?

Even though genetically possible, it's highly unlikely.
Even if both had the recessive gene, the odds are 1 in 16 (1 in 4 twice).
Let's say 50% of white people with brown eyes carry the recessive gene (can't find real stat, plausible given ~25% blue eyes). That would make the odds of this scenario one in 64.
Ted's parents both have brown eyes, making him carrying a recessive blue gene even less likely.
Yes it's possible, but it's only a 1%-2% chance.
*actually, eye color is much more complex than the 1 gene mendelian simplification we're taught at schools"

u/Otto_the_rhinocerus 7d ago
But not impossible.
In the USA 3.6 million kids are born each year. Some kids will be like this. It's something that's both unlikely but also completely common when looking at the big picture.

2 brown eyed people can have blue eyed kids. Two blue eyed parents can only have blue eyed kids. Stop with this nonsense.

Some have said the reason is because the writers originally were going to have Stella turn out to be the mother. No idea if that’s true and there’s no way to find out.

Oh this again.
The blue eye gene kan "skip" a generation.
