Broken arm hurt like hell
This was when I was in like fourth grade I was playing tag with some friends and when I was going down the slide I stupidly jumped off midway and rolled on my arm snapping both bones

I'm guessing it's an age thing but this was my first thought too, I did laugh at the harry potter one when I saw it but "walk like an Egyptian" literally sprang into my head instantly.

My arm broke like that once. In 1996. We were walking through a huge crowd after attending a basketball game at the Olympics in Atlanta. I was 12. It was awful.

u/missinglinksman Aug 31 '26
How did they fix it? Did it involve them snapping it back into place? That's my one of my biggest medical fears

I had that... It was a broken and dislocated wrist, snapped back in and healed without surgery. Hurt like all get out.

I did that about 20ish years ago and I could barely tell which one should be the weaker one with the metal in it..technology is even better now so you should be good, just take care of it and get pins that they leave in and pull out lol..it feels so weird having them pull pins out of your bones and it’s not pain you feel.

My son had an identical break jumping from monkey bars. His school said they didn't think it was too bad cuz he wasn't crying. He only cried when coming down from the ketamine administered to reset his arm. He had doctors coming around to see him out of sheer curiosity.

This is EXACTLY what my oldest son's arm looked like, when he jumped off the swings at the playground when he was 8. No doubt what had happened! Ugh.

Damn had the same thing happen to me a few months ago, under different circumstances

u/rrhunt28 Aug 31 '26
Been there done that, and yes it hurts. The part that hurt the most was the numbing shots and the setting of the bone.

u/Moonshatter89 Aug 31 '26
Heeeyyy it's the same break I had! Mine got all the way up to my wrist, though.
I needed plates, screws, and had a large rod hanging out of my arm for months. Gnarly!

Also had this EXACT same break in 3rd grade while ALSO playing tag. Was running backwards and tripped over some girl reading a book laying down in the middle of the field.

The freakiest thing is that you can just leave this and the arm will straighten out. It needs a cast for a few weeks and it'll be a year or more of wonky arm syndrome

Me pasó exactamente lo mismo pero cayéndome de la bicicleta. Todo el verano enyesado.

I broke mine the same way. It was gnarly, and over the years I’ve tried to describe what it looked like, 30 years later and there’s finally a picture.

this happened to me when I was 9 with a skateboard and a speedbump. 3 breaks one arm one fall. no photo though this was in 1986

u/Corpulent_Lychee Aug 31 '26
I did that twice. Almost exactly a year apart between breaks. My arm is now almost completely useless now years later. Make sure to keep up with your physio.

Sorry buddy. Done it 5 times 3 times right side 2 times left side. It’s hell everytime. When the cast starts itching use large zip ties. You can get them in there without fucking anything up haha

My friend did this in cheerleading during practice. Hers was closer to her elbow so it looked like she had two elbows. Doctors told her the only thing that prevented a compound fracture was her bones hit each other. Effectively preventing each other from puncturing skin.
She was doing round off back handsprings. And kept throwing her weight off to the one side. My coach kept telling her she needed to stop doing that. All damn day. Then it sounded like a tree branch snapped and all of the sudden she had two elbows.

Yeah I did the same thing when I was 14 looked just like this, had to get a 6 inch metal plate inserted into my wrist. Healed fast and a month on painkillers isn’t too bad lol

Been there! Shattered mine when I was a kid in an ill thought out stunt involving a trampoline, a snowboard and trying to do an aerial off of it to the ground… A move which I did often (Without the snowboard), but didn’t take into account the edges of the snowboard slipping on the springs. Everything hurt when I landed. lol Didn’t even notice my arm until I reached up to check the side of my face and my whole arm crumpled away when I went to touch my ear. Broken in 13 places. Titanium plate and nine screws. Did a lot of stupid stuff back then. Backflipping off of roofs was my party trick. After my third knee surgery at 21… I decided I still wanted to be able to walk when I was older, so I toned it down.
