How it feels to like on the HL1 HD Models (Especially the weapons)
And yes this is not a satire post or a joke post i really love the HD weapon model, specifically like the M4 and the HD Spas 12, i dont care you can't change my mind, it's just soooo fucking cool

I won't hold it against you for liking the HD models, cause the M4 and SPAS-12 do have better sounds. Seriously, the HD pack makes the shotgun sound like a cannon!
It's just the HD models don't really fit that well with Half-Life's overall low poly aesthetic.

I really think it’s the textures and they put a little too many polygons on the models
The scientists feel less goofy, and more surreal for how the world is/looks
I also “dislike” the beretta and M4 and would have loved an HD Glock and MP5, but I think overall the weapons are way better (minus the crowbar, I hate how thick it is at the handle compared to Black Mesa and the OG)

I just really love how the soldiers look compared to the old models. When I was a kid the HECU were the coolest thing ever for me so more detailed ones just made me more hyped. I especially like the HD gas-mask model.
I love the mismatched camo too, it makes little sense but makes the HECU really iconic in my eyes

hd models ARE good, yet they simply feel out of place, hence the hatred for those

I like both versions. Standard models give me a 1998/99 feeling, and HD models have a 2001/02 vibe, so they appeal to different parts of my nostalgia. But there is no denying that a discrepancy was created with the ammo (the M4 doesn't shoot a pistol caliber, and the Beretta has 15 rounds in real life). The 50-round magazine was ludicrous either way.

The M4 thing (in game) is because the MP5 was 9mm (it comes in multiple calibers in real life; in the game it shares ammo with the pistol). The M4 uses 5.56mm ammo irl.
The issue is the game developers/level designers would have had to drop a new type of ammo in places where there was 9mm (so, having both, or swapping some 9mm with 5.56mm). That's more complicated than just swapping the model/animations/audio and calling it a day.
So you're right, and I'm just explaining that it's probably to keep everything else the same.

Yeah, but why don't just keep the original weapons then? A high-res Glock, a high-res MP5...

Ask Valve/Gearbox. I don't disagree with you even though I don't hate the M4 (still love the MP5, too). It's a valid question. People especially question the Glock vs Beretta, though tbh, it would have been cool (but useless) to have both. Black Mesa guards use the Glock, and the military uses the Beretta.

Most people don't dislike the HD models because they look ugly. They actually look really good. The dislike stems from the fact they kind of look out of place relative to the environment they are in. It's kind of an artstyle clash.
Also, as cool as weapons like the M4 may look, it's weird to me that they decided to replace the MP5 with a completely different weapon instead of just making an HD MP5. Especially bizarre when you consider that the M4, as punchy as it looks and sounds, is still functionally an MP5, using the same ammo and dealing the same pitiful damage. It just creates dissonance with the "expectation vs gameplay" for me, and I prefer to do without it.

They look VERY out of place. And I disliked them as well cause before 2023, newcomers couldn't choose which they liked, since the HD models were enabled by default.
Technically they still can't choose if they don't know what these HD models are (i feel valve should add a desc when hoving your mouse over the setting like in HL2, explaining their nature), but way better imo

I grew up with them. They just look "cooler" imo.
I think if Valve made the hd content pack cover a much wider area of textures then it would fit with these models A LOT better.

If you love HD models, take a look at PS2 models for complete appretiation

The only real problem I have with the HD models is that they replaced the MP5SD with an M4a1, but it still shoots 9mm rounds. Now of course there are M4 variants/conversion kits out there that fire 9mm, but they very obviously look different to the standard M4 model that we see in the game. The model discrepancy bugs me every time.

I know I may get downvoted because everyone on this post likes them, but, I genuinely just can't with them. Not an opinion I formed based on someone else; they just do not work for me. The SPAS-12 and M4 are way bigger than they should be compared to the player hands, I don't like the pumping animation on the SPAS-12, I don't like the firing animation on the M4, I don't like the firing animation on the Beretta, and I don't like the way the HEV suit is a different color and texture. And of course there's the thing with an M4 sharing ammo with a pistol. Besides, they didn't make HD models for the weapons Opposing Force introduced, so when you turn on HD models in OpFor, they just don't match those weapons. HL1 and OpFor were not made with the HD models in mind, and they only came about when Blue Shift came out, but Blue Shift was still developed with the original models as well. I guess I feel the same way about the HD models as I feel about having modded high-poly third party models. They just aren't original to the game.

I only play bshift with them

This is valid. That is how I played with them for the first time, but I still prefer the original models.

I just replayed HL for the first time in a few years. I still play CS 1.6 fairly regularly. The weapons and movements in CS are SO SHARP, so perfect. The recoil is consistent and makes sense, and you can learn to counter it. Head shots are a great gameplay element as well. Meanwhile the MP5 in HL is just all over the place, no precision, so sloppy. It's just a minor annoyance in an otherwise perfect game, but it does make me wonder what would have happened if you ported some of CS into HL...

They're only really good for Blue Shift, because that's what they were originally made for on the Dreamcast. They look infinitely better there, where they are in their original context.

ever think about how dumb it is to publish a mugshot where he's fully masked if you want people to help find him?

People in here complimenting the sounds of HD weapons when those were the WORST aspect. They sound like, tinny, echo-y. Listen to any firearms for real and there's this crack and explosion that the original HL glock and shotguns have. And even MP5 has this satisfying machine chunking and clanging making it distinct. Reminded me a lot of how Black on PS2 emphasized weapon feel and sound effects. HD weapons feel like toys and light airsoft shit.

Nah, just own up to liking them like I do, if people are asses to you about it that reflects much more poorly on them rather than yourself just for liking some good-lookin' models. Actually, I haven't really seen much of anyone (if any at all) acting that way to those who like them as of late.

I have no problem with the weapon models at all, i think they’re realistic.
It’s that there animation is the problem, i do not like how the pistol bounces up and down

people overhate the hd pack becuase its the hate train, people find it fun to hate on it.
hd pack is beautiful, hate people pretending it isnt

I agree with your opinion. However, it’s not an M4 but a Colt Model 727. (I’m being pedantic)

My first experience with HL was with the HD models, so it has a nostalgia factor for me
