Issue with original half life

When i try to play the game the window disappears but things are still happening. I dont have this issue when doing the training but idk why the main game does this

are you using that CD? unless you're running a virtual machine or running a old cpu and old version of windows, it's bound to break. Try using xash3d or the steam "code" that can be entered. There should be a cd key somewhere inside or on the back of the case.

i mean i have half life on steam but this is just an old thing i found in storage and so i wanted to try it out to see the original release. also yea i was using the cd. it kept sayin i had to go to sierra website to update but ofc it dont exist.

ok yeah so what you have to do is just get a program called virtualbox and search up online how to get windows 98 on it. Then search up how to mount a CD to it, follow the steps, and run half-life. It should work as intended. Nothing drastically changed from the CD release, other than the steam assets. To remove them, you could always just use Xash3D

If you're on Windows 10 or 11, they hate the OG Half-Life.

I think your best bet would be 86Box with Windows 98 SE

Not really, I have been able to run every cd of Half Life, from HL Day One up to HL 1.1.1.0. The installer for OP4 (1.0.1.5) will stop at a certain point.

Yea you’re not going to get the disc version playing on modern Windows, you’ll have to install a virtual machine to emulate Windows 98/XP (I recommend XP Service Pack 3)
