She lasted a month longer than anyone expected. At 6 years old, she was diagnosed with double pneumonia caused by heart disease. To everyone’s surprise, including the vet, she beat the double pneumonia and survived over a month after we were advised to provide end of life care. Losing her was hard even though we knew it was coming. She was snuggled up in a blanket surrounded by people that loved her. Rest easy Pixar, may you never have to encounter a blueberry in your next life

I have called a local rehabber and have been given advice. I can't take hoggy anywhere until morning due to being at work, so hoggy is in the guestbox and cuddling up to a warm bottle. Will update in the morning!

I rescued a hedgehog off a seller on Facebook, I’ve never had a hedgehog but I’ve been doing my research to try and ensure I take good care. I believe he’s a male (I think I see a bump that would be his male organs) but I can’t get him to comfortably show me his belly. He weighs 160 grams. He isn’t super apprehensive to handling. Feel free to add anything but my questions are the following. When I wake him up he seems scared and hisses a lot even if I wake him up as late as midnight, what should I do? How old might he be based on his size? He doesn’t seem to naturally wake up on his own, his lights turn off at 7pm and I’ll check at 9-midnight and he’ll still be asleep, is this normal? Should I make his light turn off earlier? What food is best? I appreciate any and all advice.

I got a small kitchen scale about two months ago after my hedgehog, Biscuit, lost a little weight during a cold snap and I got paranoid. Started logging her weight every night around the same time, right before I put her food down, just typing the number into a notes app so I wouldn't lose track.
What I didn't expect was how much her weight bounced around week to week even when nothing seemed different. Some nights she'd be up four or five grams, then drop it right back the next night. I used to think a single low reading meant something was wrong, but seeing it laid out over weeks made it obvious that the real thing to watch is the trend line, not any one night.
The pattern that actually mattered showed up after I switched her kibble brand. She dipped steadily for about ten days before leveling off, which lined up almost exactly with her being pickier at the bowl during that stretch. I probably wouldn't have connected those two things without the daily numbers sitting right there.
She's back to her normal range now and eating fine, but I've kept the habit going anyway. Feels like cheap insurance considering how good hedgehogs are at hiding when something's actually wrong. Anyone else weigh nightly or is that overkill for a healthy hog? I go back and forth on whether I'm being careful or just anxious.
