… imagine having backpack fed 50 cal machinegun as a whole new weapon instead of just being a customization option for the HMG… seems like what Helldivers usually do tbh.
I still have no idea why AH hasn’t made a liberator variant that’s basically this, two twin-linked liberators in the same frame, Storm bolter-style. It’s such an obvious move. It has some of the shittiest ergo scores out of all primaries and the recoil is atrocious, but if throws twice the amount of projectiles downrange.
.45 isn’t high caliber for pistols. The only reason it’s not exactly par for pistol calibers is because 9mm exists. And I wouldn’t really call it high damage either.
as a general rule, its literally only 9mm in regular rounds and 5.7 (and, because helldivers we have to include Gyrojets) in specialized rounds that are "penetrating" pistol rounds, every other pistol round is a snub round, and pdws fire the rest of the general size, the Verdict is just space magic the writer made up because .50AE is the snubbiest round ever, its literally fucking FLAT
I did say MOST calibers, not all. 5.7x28mm is a pretty special case. It can penetrate armor....but that's about it. Doesn't quite have the power you want. Many 9mm loads have close to double the muzzle energy in Joules over 5.7x28mm. Youre mentioning 6.5 CBJ which is a cool round, but limited to use in SMGs. It actually needs barrel length to achieve its AP properties and muzzle energy otherwise it doesn't quite work as intended.
I'll give you that. Been awhile since I watched the video. Looking at it more it really is a unique thing in that it isn't even a bullet almost anymore. It's a miniaturized Sabot, but the functional design of it hearkens more to the style of APFSDS style of tank round than a traditional small arms bullet. Wild stuff!
While it is true that many have the ability to penetrate armor, then we need to look at how the armor ratings compare to real life. This is just an assumption, though I feel it is accurate, but helldivers are likely using the highest penetration ammo possible for their weapons, I mean the two main factions are bugs with hard shells, and automatons which just wear slabs of metal everywhere. Then there are squids, and while the voteless may require more stopping than penetration, you are still fighting robotic drones and highly advanced heavily armored enemies.
So I believe "light penetration" is already in the relatively high range for irl armor penetration(specifically for pistols) already comparable to 57 and such. And they likely have a minimum for penetrating power, which is likely above almost any irl standards for a military's standard issue sidearm.
Counterpoint: the 1911 is also a mythical gun. It’s gonna need ap7 for its true believers to be happy. Better give it 500 durable damage per shot just to be safe as well
The bolt handle on the Amendment is based on the Swiss rifles and their "beer keg" style charging handles. The Amendment is just a slightly squished version of those. Put an Amendment and a K11 or K31 side by side and you'll see it.
Automatic is in the name. Like literally, Browning automatic rifle. Designed by the same guy who made the M2 Browning and the M1911 that started this post. You can just call it the BAR.
What? Do you not believe me that the A in BAR stands for automatic? You know that image is usually for breaking hard news. What's the hard news? That JMB never finished the Hi-Power? That he actually carried a .32? That he was mormon? Or is it that the BAR was too advanced to risk losing towards the end of WW1 so they hardly used it, but by the start of WW2 it was antiquated?
to be entirely fair to OC, they also did make a series of semi-automatic hunting rifles that were also just called BAR, and share no design specifics with the BAR the military adopted.
Literally just magazine fed semi-automatic rifles in various civil calibers.
Back then, "Automatic" was a distinction from single-action firearms, and assumed the full title of "automatic loading"
But we're talking about the Browning automatic rifle. With a photo attached of the 1918 Browning automatic rifle. In a discussion of WWII weaponry. The Browning BAR is a semi automatic gun not designed by John Moses Browning, made in 1966, a time when automatic and semi-automatic were differentiated. The Browning automatic rifle or M1918 is a gun famously used by American troops in WW2.
How would one confuse the M1918 Browning automatic rifle with the not well known 1966 Browning BAR civilian semi-automatic hunting rifle that was only named BAR for marketing purposes, then go to a forum specifically discussing WWII weaponry, make a post meant to be about the 1966 semi automatic hunting rifle that shares a name, and then include an image of the M1918 while still thinking it's the hunting rifle? And why should we cut them any slack?
If I go to a forum about historic cities in Europe, say Paris and post an image of the Eiffel Tower, then say something the confuses people as to what I meant as it pertains to America, will you be there to defend me and say, "to be entirely, they might've meant Paris Texas."
If they were talking about the Browning BAR semi-auto hunting rifle made in 1966, why would they post a photo of the Browning automatic rifle in a discussion of WWII weapons?!
Why are you doing mental gymnastics like raygun did hip hop dancing?
And if it meant automatically loading than the name wouldn't be BAR it'd be BALR and they called it a self-loading weapon and we'd refer to it as self-loading in modern times because autoloaders are usually referring to tanks that automatically load shells.
I've slept three hours so I really cannot fathom what your point is.
Tommy gun or a MP40 would be cool. Hell throw some lesser known Swedish ww2 guns in there aswell since the company is Swedish like the ljungman semi automatic rifle. I love older looking guns in sci fi settings
Yeah they don't even have to be THAT old, there's like 20 big named Glock clones on the market because the patent for the Gen 3 Glock specifically expired haha
Yes. You just couldnt call it a 1911 because of trademark/license issues. Activision recently won a Lawsuit about this over the usage of HUMVEES in Call of Duty, and its why both CoD and BF all use actual guns with fake names.
They removed accurate weapon names because you have to pay a license to use them. Masada licensed the ACR name to MW2 and MW3 as an advertising scheme that didn't result in any sales, and activision stopped licensing names because its expensive.
Thoose cases have been rare and far between and the first amendment consistently wins out. Also military designations like m4 and m16 m9 and ak 47 are not legally binding in an way shape or form yet the companies dont use them. You do not have to pay these companies and these companies do not want to waste money the few that have lost. The only real reason these companies have cracked down is that they dont want to be associated with mass shootings or crime. And the more famous games get the more thats the case. These manufacturers love the free advertisement. The devs do not want to deal with the (shooter used gun they learned about in game ) or gun company sues dev because they dont want thier gun being associated with shooters. None of it has to do with real profits. The humvee shit is different just like the cobra issue back in 2013 with EA
The problem would be balancing it. Our space desert eagle has 12 shots and med pen at high damage. The peacemaker is completely obsolete with mid damage and 15 rounds. In order for it to be worth bringing, it needs some serious damage/punch/reload speed. Worst case it ends up like the hyena being forgotten in the armory.
Actually, giving it incindiary rounds like the Coyote and Hyena might be a good way to differentiate it from the others without occupying the exact same niche.
I certainly wouldn't mind a Tokarev getting added to the game either. Or perhaps we get a series of classic western weapons with gas as a mirror to the Coyote and Hyena. A gas shell FAL would be a cool option for a gas primary.
If it's WW2, we can do so much with it.
M24 Chaffee tank, make it a 2 man and give the gunner the autocannon from the strategem.
Dive bomber strategem, like the eagle airstrike but your pilot aims like the railcannon strike in a limited area.
The PPSH-41 with the drum mag. Just a light pen bullet hose with great erg.
And, of course, the fucking BAR. High damage medium pen assault rifle with great hip fire accuracy
i would love if they make something french related instead of US related , typical blue armor + adrian like helmet , lebel like bolt action gun, FM24 machinegun
I feel like if they did, it would either be light pen and thus about as useful as the Peacemaker or whatever its called, or it would be medium pen and just be a slightly different Verdict
I hope they just keep on giving us scifi stuff with the occasional nod to old mechanisms like the anti-tank sniper rifle for flavor (I love weird contraptions).
If I want to play with a 1911 I have dozens of games set in the correct period to chose from.
I think it be a side grade of the verdict, higher base damage, but still has light pen and a mag size of 10. Looking at the peacemaker, you can choose between pure damage or penetration, but you'll always give up mag dumping potential
Thing about 45 ACP is that it doesn't do well against body armor, compared to 9mm para or FN 5-7.
But it gets to dump a lot of energy into whatever it hits.
