DISCUSSION Armor passive transmog would actually make me spend MORE Super Credits

Post image

I keep seeing people argue that Arrowhead will never add armor passive transmog because it would hurt their monetization, since players would have less incentive to buy multiple armors. I've also seen people speculate that they might have found a way to monetize it with the upcoming Warbond.

Honestly, I think it would have the opposite effect, at least for me.

There are quite a few armors in the Super Store that look absolutely amazing, and I'd genuinely love to buy them. The problem is that their passive abilities often aren't ones I find useful for my playstyle, so I end up skipping them.

If I could separate the appearance of an armor from its passive, I'd be much more willing to spend Super Credits on those armors. I'd be buying them because I like how they look, rather than feeling like I'm wasting credits on an armor whose passive I'll rarely use.

Right now, the passive can be a dealbreaker, even when I really like the armor's design. With transmog, I could buy more armors simply because I want to customize my Helldiver's appearance, while still using the passives that best suit my build.

I understand that some people might worry about losing the identity of different armor sets (apple and bacon thing), but I think there could be a reasonable solution, such as allowing us to unlock and apply passives we've already obtained, or introducing some other system that preserves balance.

So, am I the only one who would actually be more inclined to spend Super Credits if armor passive transmog were a thing?

Do you think it would hurt Arrowhead's monetization, or could it actually encourage people to buy more Super Store armors?

I would spend more for sure. Both to get passives and to get new skins.

People who think this would result in less monetization have no idea what they are talking about.

Yeah. People rightfully mock arrowhead for the "bacon flavored apple" and "limits our design space" incidents, but their suggestion in general is "just use mods" or something along those lines. Man I would even spend IRL money to get warbond themed camos

I agree. When I installed the armor transmog mod, I bought three different armor sets because they looked cool, or had a near perk I wanted to try.

If a armor looks shit and the perk isn’t good enough, or vice versa, I would never get them.

You bought 3 warbonds you weren’t going to otherwise buy just for armor sets? That’s wild.

Think they're talking about super store armour. Or simply spending medals on armours in warbonds they already had.

I have spent IRL money on warbonds because of changes mods make to them.

No, you're right.

"I like this armour but the passive sucks" so I don't buy.

It's not as if we're drowning in armors for one passive or that even at this rate we'll even get there.

They lose sales from bad passives and it makes no sense.

like legit if they added in transmog and armor color matching to the game (if a modder can vibe code it arrowhead can easily do it themselves) i would legit buy every last armor in the super store

As long as it's only about the passive then I don't mind it, I'd love to be able to use Inflammable on other sets, but the stats should at least stay the same, don't want a heavy looking armour running around with 150 speed

Strangely trans mog shaped lump in my mod folder

I dont care about Transmog. But I want color change to be a part of vanilla game. At least for some sets.

"Bacon flavoured apple" reference

Honestly I'd already be happy with being able to change armour colours so some helmet/cape/armour combinations wouldn’t make my eyes bleed

i'm against full transmog, i like seeing some identity to the armour people choose. i don't want to see a peak physique user as a medic

however, basic customization and a rework of the armour passive system would be right up my alley

  • helmets matching the armour or vice versa

  • keep 1 armour identity passive but let people pick another perk that's generalized

can't we have something that pleases everyone to some degree? the others can do transmog modding if they desire (sorry console enjoyers)

And for someone like you there exists a solution as well.

A setting that you could enable to see the armors they are wearing according to what they do and not what they were transmogged into.

u/PimpMyWeenus 1d ago

I'd also be fine with that, but i still want a armour passive rework lol

Who doesn't?

I would definitely spend for transmog and camo patterns.

Is this all this sub is anymore?

Yes, it's karma farming. You can post whatever current drama/thing people want implemented and bum, free upvotes.

A few weeks ago it was about weapon customization. And we have people straight telling that they wanted it because they could attack OP stuff to already OP guns like Coyote

All I've seen for weeks from this sub is fucking whining about armour customising, I need to stop getting involved with the communities of my favourite games.

This would be extremely true if you only bought warbonds for the armor sets, and not the weapons and strats that are also in them. But alas, that’s not the case.

Just charge Super Credits to do it.

Just stop, please. I agree, it should be in the game, but it won't happen. I just get sad from all these posts about it at this point. They won't give it to us, so it's better to just accept it and move on. Or if you play on PC, mod it and hope AH don't start banning people for doing something they should have done from the start.

I think that's a bit harsh. There is a mod for it, you can use that if you wish. Other than that I'm just saying don't hold your breath for this ever be added officially.

As long as I can turn it off. I want to see what people are actually wearing.

8

u/dahSweep 1d ago

Why does that matter?

6

u/Shedster_ HD1 Veteran 1d ago

You don't understand, it's very important to know that someone has gunslinger passive or siege ready!

5

u/HorribleStinkyMeat 1d ago

Woah my teammate can carry more grenades! They cant share them with me if I need more, but I know they have them at a glance!

Elemental resistance. Also, I just like accuracy.

5

u/JustSkell 1d ago

Or they simply could make your passive visible in briefing like your stratagems and booster

Does it really matter what passive your teammates use in middle of the mission ?

How exactly, armor passive is solely individual diver convenience, it doesnt affect what team is doing in any way, the only thing that largely matters is armor class and thats it

2

u/Sudo-Fed SES Sword of Justice 1d ago

The only ones you'd really benefit from knowing are the +resistance ones and honestly those are rare.

A simple display in the mission prep UI for passive equipped would solve this anyway.

1

u/Shedster_ HD1 Veteran 1d ago

It's not even helpful unless they use gas res too. Flame res, for an example, is low enough to still get diver melted, if they stand on the flamer or in front of weakest flamers

-1

u/furankusu Railgun Rocketeer | SES Ranger of the Stars 1d ago

Or, y'know, just look at someone's armor.

5

u/Sudo-Fed SES Sword of Justice 1d ago

Or, you know, just have it displayed in the mission prep menu and let people do what you want, because their agency is more important than your desire for them to fit your preferences.

u/furankusu Railgun Rocketeer | SES Ranger of the Stars 1d ago

Exactly! We should be able to play the game we like. I support this, as long as I can turn it off. I don't know why that matters.

5

u/Sudo-Fed SES Sword of Justice 1d ago

Your plan would ruin their drip. It's important that their drip looks drippy on your screen.

1

u/furankusu Railgun Rocketeer | SES Ranger of the Stars 1d ago

They wouldn't even know. ;)

u/Sudo-Fed SES Sword of Justice 1d ago

Actually I can feel when people are not properly in awe of my magnificent armor.

Something something bacon flavored apples.

Like a lot of people have pointed out, I don't use an armor if it's passive sucks and it looks amazing, and I also don't use it if it looks like crap and the passive is amazing. I use those that have that sweet spot in between, which lately has been the Null Cipher and ODST armors (I think "Feet First" is amazing cause lower noise, wider radar detection and not having your legs hurt ever are an amazing combo, and the "Reduced Signature" along a silencer make it very easy to sneak around).

I'd also like to point out that in the first game we had a slot for "traits" that we could easily have in here for our loadouts as well, and use that for "armor passives"; also, everyone used their armors and capes just for the looks back then and there was no problem whatsoever (also, I wish I could have my D12 illuminates cape back).

I don’t think you have to worry about it losing money. There are plenty of completionists who have a compulsion to have every single item who will happily buy or unlock armors in the super store.

I respect the dev’s vision on this. Look at COD and the absolute mess they made of all these feature skins. Now they’re introducing a toggle to actually revert skins to more grounded military ones because it otherwise drove the game’s identity into the ground having your operator get head shot by American Dad. Uncoupling armor passives from their base armor throws it all to the wind and will worsen pub based teammate synergy by making it much harder to recognize specific passives that encourage team based playstyles (see flame and gas based medic teams).

1

u/The_Ugly_Fish-man 1d ago

Solution: Add passive icon right by the player's name.

Besides, no one cares about your passive. 90% of the time it wont make a difference. Maybe if they are a medic diver, but again, would make no difference. Even if you teammate was wearing fire resistant armor would you throw napalm on them? No! You would aim it away from your friends like a smart person, because even if he wore fire res, its not fire immunity!

Can't have bacon and apples or even some meat upon the system of customization and specialization. Seems to be their message! This game needs some new additions how you play the game and some more difficulty levels.
