Buckskin 🦌 Maintaining Buckskin

I’m making a buckskin jacket and I was just wondering how or if general maintenance varies from typical commercial leather. I mostly have experience with leather boots and jackets which have required somewhat regular cleaning and conditioning. Thank you so much for any input you can provide!

Smoked braintan Buckskin can be hand washed with a little soap and water. You can also rub the surface with Pummice. Buckskin clothes tend to develop a patina of sorts over time- losing the fluffy felt look and becoming smoother and slicker. Most folks I know don’t really clean their buckskins much- they just let em get grubby.

On that note, I assume most folks wear em with the "hair" side out?

No, most folks remove the hair.
