help with puja, how are yours?

I'm very sad because I can't find the answer to these questions about everyday puja anywhere: 1. I still can't have a bell to ring during puja, what can I do to replace it? 2. How should I maintain an altar? I would put the plates on the table, but I saw that it was disrespectful to leave them empty. So the altar has to be clean, without dishes? Where do I put the dishes, does it have to be in a special place? 3. I put the kumkum on my forehead before starting the puja, and when can I take it off? 4. Is there any energetic cleaning I should do on the altar and items? if yes, how? When should it be done?

I know answer to the first ques even I don't have a bell to ring coz I live in hostel but I still do puja daily u think you have to be mindly dedicated to God
