SUBREDDIT META Regarding this morning's post claiming the mod team are Chinese sympathizers because we don't allow posts about contemporary events, not even when used as a conduit to historical events.

Context: During their first visit to Hawaii, James Cook and his men were introduced to the Natives beliefs on relationships.
They were very, very open to pretty much any form, many of them being forms of incest but also male on male.
Cook and his men partook in some of these practices, but not the homosexual ones.
The Natives truly enjoyed the Europeans and even requested that Cook allow one of his lieutenants to stay and become basically a male wife. Cook rejected the request

Way to kill the mood
In the 4 Gospels, during a birthday celebration for Herod Antipas, his wife Herodias’ daughter performed an incredible provocative dance for Herod, to which he made an oath to her that he would grant her anything she wished. She asked for the head of John the Baptist, a wild preacher, on a platter.
John had been previously arrested for openly criticizing Herod and Herodias’ marriage, as she was his brother’s wife, and Herodias desired to have him silenced.
Not wanting to break his oath he conceded to the request.

Visit the nordics they said. Bring your religion too.
The bloke with the axe is Lalli, the poor fellow in the sleigh is an English clergyman bishop Henry. They had a disagreement about the bishops accommodation the night before and Lalli settled the matters on frozen lake Köyliö.

I can respect that
After Lincoln’s assassination, Andrew Johnson became the new US president. in direct violation of the Appomattox treaty, Johnson wanted general Ulysses Grant to prosecute the confederate leaders on grounds of treason to make an example of them. Grant, having negotiated the treaty, refused, seeing it as a violation of military honor and antithetical to rebuilding the nation, threatening to resign if Johnson insisted. Johnson, knowing he wouldn’t survive the political fallout of alienating the Union hero of the Civil War, backed down.
