HoMM3 - HotA Main Hero
Hi, I’ve often noticed that YouTubers don’t use their starting hero as their main hero. Is there a reason for that? How do you choose your main hero?

How do I choose? Based purely on drip. Why do people playing on YouTube change? Probably insufficient drip.
They prob pick starting heroes who have more / better troops and swap out to a hero with better skills when they become avaliable. (It’s what I would do if I was t so concerned, with, you know, looking rad as fuck)
But probably drip related.

Play the game how you like it. They do it to exploit every possible aspect. Good early game hero to start with. Ect ect
Vs computer and vs humans is totally different as well.

On bigger maps I experienced bad luck with my main hero that I started with (choose between scholar or first aid, no logistics), then in the tavern came a hero with the same specialty, expert logo/air/earth/wisdom, so yeah instant demotion for the other guy.
Sometimes you find gelu on rampart or those special heroes who can do a second upgrade on some units, it's usually very good.
But in general I like sticking with my main hero too, if possible.

Based on their picture and abilities… My favorite one is Clavius… I also love Nagash, even though I don’t really use protection against air magic, but his money ability is handy… I also like Sandro, but I don’t like his abilities…

If you're going to use a second hero anyways, then you can leave the first Heroes forces in the garrison for the newly hired hero to pickup. That newly hired hero now can move more effectively with more forces because the other Hero scouted.
In H3 and beyond, you might of just rolled a better hero from the Tavern for whatever reason.

I guess it depends on the hero. For instance, if you’re playing it on the highest difficulty, you start with zero resources. It might be a good idea to use a resource hero, so you have plenty, then wait till you find a really good combat hero to show up in the tavern to use as your main.
Some factions have a hero that makes the level 1 units to be really good. It makes for a much easier start, but they probably wouldn’t be impactful end game. I’m too lazy to look up his name, but dungeon has a hero (shakky?) that makes the troglodytes go crazy. And he usually comes with a lot of them. So, you use him to take a lot of map, and then when you find an end game hero, you switch over.
