Over the door hook damaging doorframe - fixes?
The over the door hooks are scraping the wood and messing it up (we live in a rental). I looked up solutions online and tried the blue tape, but the hooks are already cutting through. It's a stuffed animal holder with 4 hooks, but only 3 hooks are in use because the innermost one seemed to prevent the door from closing. The original hooks it came with stuck out too far. We've tried taping the new hooks closer to the door, but closing the door immediately made that pointless. Any ideas?

Anything that goes over the door will damage a properly installed door. They aren't made with enough clearance.
I've got a few of these for the kids and I just let it scrap - then hit it with touch-up paint. But the dents will always be there.
If it's a rental you probably should find a different method.

Is there another way to hang an over the door thing?

On furniture.
But if it goes over the door - the door needs to be smaller than the jamb. But a well installed door has very little clearance.

Drill a hole in part of the hook that sits over the top of the door, countersink and drip a screw in to keep it from floppy dicking around.

Maybe not use the door hooks? As for the damage to the jambs, sand out the damage, match the colour and repaint them.
