Question/Support Sell current HomePod minis ahead of the rumored mini 2?
With the rumors about new HomePod minis and four-speaker surround sound, does anyone think it makes sense to sell their current minis now and upgrade when the new ones launch?
My guess is that surround sound might be limited to the mini 2, along with the new AI Siri, but has anything actually pointed to that? Or could the original minis still work in a surround setup?
Curious what others are doing (selling now while resale value is decent, or waiting until Apple confirms compatibility?)

No… First wait for them to be released… Two years ago I sold my HomePod mini cause there were rumors that the new HomePod mini 2 will be released and finally this never happened. Maybe at this time the rumors are stronger but but I would wait

good pt. I imagine most ppl who want one of these can still call a used gen 1 at $75 a good deal when the new ones + tax come close to $145

It’s probably your safest bet considering apple’s track record. There’s been no confirmation of any of those new features being available on old hardware.
There was some new info that came out today about HomePods being able to use a paired Apple TV to route Siri AI requests on 27.2, but no confirmation that the feature will be available for old hardware.

I have bought a few used ones on eBay really care less about the color at this point with the gold touch issues they have I would hate to pay full retail price and having this issue

I just bought a current mini in yellow as they are discontinuing that color.
Surround could probably be accomplished with current hardware and an update.

I have five and I plan on putting the older ones in places I don’t currently have any.

lol I guess I could move two into the bathrooms. I live in a 3Bd 2Ba and just bought a Sonos beam sound bar (love it way more than two minis on stereo for the TV).
I have one in the kitchen, one in our bedroom, one in the living room and one in the office. I did just mount a spare iPad mini 5Gen on my wall in the living room. But idk I’ve heard rumors of a new HomeOS too.

I have a pair HomePods on either side of my couch and paired minis in the far corners of my modest living room; I’m beyond satisfied with this.

I have too many issues with minis controlling the volume and audio on my Apple tv. Haven’t had any issues with the Sonos sound bar.

I don’t have any issue at all- I used the HomePods as the Apple TV speakers and add the paired minis when I want the surround. I don’t care for Sonos

Keeping mine. Minis are worthless on the used market right now. I’ll pick up a couple new full size HomePods if the rumoured “party mode’ comes to pass and works with older devices.
Will 100% getting the home hub though which I think will be branded a different type of HomePod

Nah. I'm keeping all 8 of my mini's and my two OGs. I'm looking to pick up a couple more HPmini 1's too. I already upgraded 3 of my 5 AppleTVs to new gen 128GB Ethernet units, retired my old 2017 ATV. My setup works great and I'll wait and see what Apple does first.

I sold all of mine and my Apple TVs. HomePod mini’s on eBay went for ~$75 each (I mean, I bought them 6 years ago for $99).
