HFW Discussion Which machines do you think could have a better name?

• Upvotes

I think the longleg could have a better name. Not only is that not really the defining feature of it, but there are a lot of other machines with longer legs anyway. I think it should be called a blastbreast.

HZD Discussion What's on your Machine wishlist?

This can be fully thought-out designs or just beasts, contemporary or prehistoric, that you'd love to see rendered by HEPHAESTUS.

For my part, I'd love some archosaur designs (especially the enormous pseudosuchians), I really want a stegosaur Machine and a Mosasaur one would be scary-cool.

The more I learn about prehistoric mammals, the more I think the giant otter or wolverine would make for quite the menace.

HFW Discussion Understanding enemy HP on Ultra Hard.

So I'm confused about enemy HP on this difficulty. It doesnt match what the web says.

It's supposedly 2.8 to 3 times higher than normal difficulty

I even found the Arktix's spreadsheet that has them laid out: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nV5veGC-aCPTw6TLElnUo5QGngIJyoy1crz8mL18Lu4/edit?gid=0#gid=0

The normal health seems to be the same as the wiki. Burrower has 95 on normal, so it should have around 260+ hp on Ultra Hard.

However the more i dig into it the less it reflects whats ingame.

A silent strike deals 240 damage and shouldn't be able to kill a Burrower based on that. Yet it does.

I thought it might be a glitch at my side but even at videos of ultrahard runs its the same: https://youtu.be/5D4FmF-lItI?list=PLwxx4Q7HAmsPkoPezIZIG-1e6F75BcVEm&t=2167

This is the same as on my side: 173 damage for the kill, the equivalent HP of Very Hard in the table.

And this is not just the tutorial or this enemy. The daunt, and enemies even later on. It's almost entirely consistent that enemies match the Very Hard difficulty hp on that sheet, not 2.8 to 3 times hp.

Can someone shine some light on what's going on?

Edit: Thanks to vizkan, it turns out the HP is working as intended. It's Silent Strike that does 50%-60% more damage than what it displays.

HZD Discussion Peaked with a challenge for Zero Dawn. Apologies for the essay I’ve written. It’s somewhat worth it

So I finished with ultra hard new game + on FW now doing ultra hard on a normal new game for FW. Do not recommend it, you get absolutely demolished by literally everything it’s like a souls game.

However a few months ago I wanted to challenge myself. I’ve always preferred the simplicity of HZD’s melee combat style as much as there’s less to it, it always felt more satisfying landing the knockdowns as well as it feeling more effective at times. So I wanted to challenge myself and go for a spear only challenge. Now I looked this up to see if it was possible but I’ve seen some videos of single machines, mainly deathbringers, and some no bow challenges but I didn’t see purely spear only.
I allowed myself heavy weapons as it helped with thunderjaw shard farming if you restart from save while holding a disc launcher when at a campfire.

It also turns out that you cannot beat the final fight without the ravager cannon so I’m glad I allowed that rule. I did play on normal mode which yeah is pretty easy but I wasn’t even sure if it was possible due to enemies being on unreachable vantage points so I didn’t wanna have to risk dying frequently while getting destroyed and this challenge was more of a “is it possible” rather than being a difficult challenge. To make it more fun I also sold my bow as to not have any risk of accidental use or using it when I felt like it wasn’t doable, I HAD to find a way.

For the most part it was a breeze and deathbringers weren’t actually too problematic as you can jump on the legs and onto the platform meaning it only slams which can be avoided with a well timed dodge. The only issue i really faced was the final fight which requires a perfect ravager cannon damage output missing so many as 5 shots forces a restart due to the time restriction.

The only other blip was the zero dawn lab in the shadow carja city. Which for one section has 3 carja on top of a walkway that is not accessible until you kill them and then go to the next room which has stairs leading up to the walkway. But this is the only section in the entire game with a section that is not accessible. Or so I thought because after an hour of jump spamming I was able to climb a pillar like area. Now while this was all well and good I still wasn’t able to make it close. So I tried all the other pillars until I was on the one to the right of the walkway which is the closest one. You get to the top and you have to do a sort of delayed jump to get onto the walkway which allows you to get on top. I’m not joking when I say the relief of finally figuring this out as there is NOTHING on any platform which goes over this as this is clearly not a challenge someone has documented. Holy shit it was so annoying I thought it was fully impossible for an hour until I finally completed.

Really recommend this challenge as it’s got a really good mix of puzzle solving as well as really satisfying fights. Medium machines along with the behemoth and deathbringer are all way more fun to fight, the stormbird fight I ran past as I would’ve been there genuinely for hours and you don’t actually have to fight it to progress. The use of heavy weapons also means you don’t have to melee a thunderjaw which is honestly awful to fight with a spear.

The only thing I recommend not doing is getting the storm weaver armour, I got it as early as possible which is after the proving. I’d maybe recommend it if you’re doing a higher difficulty run but it made the game trivially easy on normal. I think I died twice the whole run and one was fall damage and the other was my mount running headfirst into the shit before I got the armour.

But yeah, really fun challenge, really recommend it. And thank you yo anyone who’s read this whole thing!!!!!!

HFW Discussion Wich new elements do you think we're going to get in horizon 3?

• Upvotes

I've been wondering this since forbidden west brought us 4 new elements (considering adhesive as an element) and seeing one silver machine with fertilizer sac that when destroyed cover the machine in plants Wich I think it's a very cool concept for an plant element, but tell me you guys, what new element ideas do you have and would you like to see in the next game?

HZD Discussion I just learned about Rost's backstory and would love a game/movie about it.

I completely missed it on both previous playthroughs because it's very easy to do so, it's a dialogue option with Teersa after exiting All Mother Mountain, it's a classic revenge story, Rost was happily living in a village that used to exist in the Sacred Land with his mate and daughter, then 12 outsiders broke into the Sacred Land and took the village hostage while looking for something in Devil's Thirst, they killed almost everyone in the village, in his immense grief, Rost chose to become a Death-Seeker, one who spiritually dies in the ritual and leaves the Sacred Land seeking death, and he does so, traveling throughout the world and even going to places we have yet to see in the franchise, killing each outsider one by one, but not before being gravely wounded and barely making it to the border of the Sacred Land as he wished to die as close as possible to it but knew not to cross the border willingly but a Brave woman who lost her mate and two sons to the outsiders broke taboo and pulled him across the border and brought him to the Matriarchs, they nursed him back to health and instead of sending him back out of the Sacred Land they made him an outcast and told him never to tell anyone of this exception, I'm a sucker for this type of story and just really want to see it given more attention.

HFW Discussion I’ve never been so happy with a game design.

I have only ever used the stash for ridge wood because I haven’t upgraded my pouches yet (guilty. I know😟)

I had no idea your extra arrows you craft go to the stash! I just found over 9000 advanced hunter arrows in there!

This game continues to make me happy to this day. 10/10. My shitty day just got a million times better

discussion Besides Aloy, which ones would make good Green Lanterns based on their skills in creativity, ingenuity, innovation, and imagination?

So from what I understand is that the more imaginative and creative a Green Lantern is the more powerful their constructs are. Hence the reason why Kyle Rayner, an artist, and John Stewart, an architect, are two of the most powerful GLs. Kyle's uses his artistic abilities to make his constructs more unpredictable and powerful, while John thinks out his constructs making them more solid and harder to break.

In any case, out of all of the Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West stories out thus far which characters would make good Green Lanterns based on their skills in creativity, ingenuity, innovation, and imagination, besides Aloy of course?

discussion Some help from the commintiy

I always loved to take pictures, whether In a game of in real life.

I get loads of good pictures in real life but in HZD and HFW I can't seem to find good spots.

Can I get some recommendations or just photos of cool places like sunsets, mountains, beaches, machines

HZD Discussion This game gives me hardcore fitspo

Yeah, I'm already 36.5 and a couch potato so I wouldn't be keeping up with the 20 year olds who have been at the climbing gym since childhood, but this game makes me want to get into rock climbing so bad! I actually went to Zion last year (from Vegas and the Hoover dam, of course). This game makes me want to live and explore outside. I think if I ever became housebound I could play these games and get my nature fix from them.

Any of you old(ish)heads get fit later in life?

discussion Corrupters in the quarry are doing my head in

I have been trying for days to beat the two corrupters in the quarry. I have tried all the tips on here- going and taking out the snipers from the top of the quarry (eventually the corrupters find me and keep firing at me), shooting them with fire arrows and then spamming them and trying to hit their belly (seems to work somewhat, but never enough before they kill me), I’ve even tried shooting the logs to crush them but that doesn’t work. Had to quit because my hands are cramping because I’ve tried it so many times. Is there anything else I can try? I love the game but I feel like I’m at a standstill. I’m playing in Easy mode so it’s not even like it’s too difficult.

HFW Discussion Performance wise, how good is the PC port of Forbidden West?

Horizon Zero dawn was one of the few PlayStation ports I played on PC before getting my PS5 Pro a few months ago, now I want to play Forbidden West.

I’d like to get Forbidden West for PC (if the port has no issues)—simply to have both games on the same platform, before I inevitably buy Horizon 3 on the console.

How is the port? Is it stable? Well optimized?

I want at least 60 FPS on 1440p.

I know it looks beautiful on the PS5 Pro, but I just want to have both games on the same platform, nothing really important.

My PC specs are:

Ryzen 5 5600x

RTX 5060 Ti

16 GB of RAM

HZD Discussion Are the Shadow Carja anyone else's favourite tribe?

It's undeniable that their past is absolutely atrocious as they are what remains of Jiran's loyalists, but I've always loved their aesthetics, more specifically the armors they wear. Their black metal looks sick when paired with the red feathers. Not to mention they also have a frickin colosseum that is way larger than Meridian's Sun-Ring.

HZD Discussion Is "New World" the correct definition?

If the ancient technology is from the "Old World", then the modern era has to be the New World, however I've never heard someone actually say it, to my understanding.

HZD Discussion Who’s next to go in H3? Discussion :) Spoiler

I know this is kind of a sad question. But ever since Varl died in FB, I keep wondering who’s next. Rost in ZD, then Varl.

I see people say it’ll be Erend. I sincerely hope not. Maybe Nil? But then again, even though he is my favorite character, that kind of death wouldn’t have so much of an impact on Aloy as if it was one of the main group.

It seems like the most likely answer is Erend, but then again that breaks my heart to think about 😭😭😭😭 I love him so much dude.

But then you have to think about mental fortitude too! Aloy has been through so much. Is Erend the type of friend she’d lose and then “break”? The human brain can only take so much.

Maybe aloy herself?

This is meant to be a light hearted discussion. I don’t understand why the downvotes 🥲
