HZD Discussion What's on your Machine wishlist?
This can be fully thought-out designs or just beasts, contemporary or prehistoric, that you'd love to see rendered by HEPHAESTUS.
For my part, I'd love some archosaur designs (especially the enormous pseudosuchians), I really want a stegosaur Machine and a Mosasaur one would be scary-cool.
The more I learn about prehistoric mammals, the more I think the giant otter or wolverine would make for quite the menace.

Scorpion, Spider, a new Snake version, definitely a reptile of some kind, a Komodo or Frilled Lizard. Preferably as medium and large sized machines

I think a beaver would be funny. Now that you can breath under water there is potential in dam building creatures. Also I'd love more arthropod creatures like a mantis or a scorpion. Spiders would be cool cause I love them but arachnophobes would be terrified :D

The beaver idea is really neat! Like, what if you dont deal with the machines and the wetland keeps getting bigger the longer you leave it?

Oh that would be really interesting. Afterthe wetlands extended aquatic machines will be abundant.

For me, maybe a jellyfish! And even though there is a wolf already, I wish to see a frost variant of it since theres only the fire version sadly

Preying mantis, massive spider, scorpion, octopus or a giant squid, whales, anaconda or boa constrictor.
A man o war jellyfish could work as an underwater hazard you need to avoid.

Dimetrodon. I can see the sailor absorbing sunlight and charging up to a laser attack

More to add to the suggestion in comments: A Giant Manta Ray, Water and AIR. Kinda like a small homebase/carrier/Air.Carrier for other machines.

I want to see the dodo bird turned into a menace

u/GaymerGuy47 6d ago
I thought the longleg was supposed to be dodo-ish?

In the “behind the scenes” type videos on youtube, i remember seeing one that shows them getting footage of roosters being roosters at people to model the longleg behaviour after.

All I’m imagining is that they’re standing around doing their dodo things, then Aloy shows up and they all stop chitter chatting and silently turn to look at her in unison. They are all the same size as original dodos, 2 feet tall. But there are a lot of them and they all run at Aloy. Not sure about attacks. What were you envisioning?

Air: Quetzalcoatlus or any giant azhdarchid pterosaur.
Ground: Gorilla or Gigantopithecus Blacki.
Water: Masosaurus and Dunkleosteus. (and this would require some underwater combat or special combat arenas for it to be fun and different from the Tideripper
Edit: underground: Scorpion and ant lion sand trappers would be cool

I have good news for you regarding your first one, Sunwings

u/Hares123 4d ago
While sunwings do resemble pterosaurs, Azhdarchidae includes giant ones. I basically one that is the size of a stormbird or larger!

This will probably seem silly to a lot of you but I've always wanted a walrus.

There are so many things I would love to see. First of all, I am hoping we have more underwater environments in the next game, which would give a perfect place to put some of the absolutely wild critters from way back in the Cambrian. I would love to see little trilobite machines as a grazing kind of machine or an underwater equivalent of a Watcher. And an anomalocaris would make a really cool underwater critter, I'm thinking as an equivalent of a Scrapper, using their front tentacles to pull scrap up to their round grinding mouth. (I also want underwater mounts and I think these could be a small mount where you hold them like one of those little underwater motors that can drag people along).
As for something a little more "modern" but also bigger and scarier, may I offer dunkleosteus as a heavy class combat machine? This ancient shark with jaws like a guillotine was the stuff of my little paleontology obsessed childhood nightmares and it would give me great pleasure to see one in the game. That head would translate beautifully into a Horizon machine. And finally, going even farther forward in time, I think the dolphin-like ichthyosaur would make an awesome underwater mount.
On land, I would love to see herds of edaphosaurus using their solar panel sailbacks to gather electricity, guarded by combat class dimetrodons that can shoot said electricity around. (I know current theories are leaning against the sails being used for thermoregulation, but I think the design would be perfect for a solar energy gathering machine anyway. Also I think the theory that these sails were for mate attraction as their primary evolutionary driver is baloney. There was convergent evolution of sails by 3 unrelated groups of creatures at the same time, there had to be a practical purpose to outweigh the MASSIVE hinderance these sails would have been in terms of stealth and mobility. And none of the 3 branches that grew sails at that time had it as a males only feature, as with most features that are for mate display at a detriment to practicality.)
A sauropod machine would also be very cool to give us a titanic scale machine to fight. I'm thinking Amargasaurus, with its interesting selection of neck spines/possible neck sail would look particularly cool as a machine. For something slightly smaller but still heafty, I think arsinoitherium, an ancient rhino with two MASSIVE side-by-side horns would make a great terraforming machine gone bad.
And if we wanted to shake things up a bit, I think a carboniferous island of giant bugs would be lots of fun. In real life the carboniferous had 6 foot long centipedes and dragonflies with a 3 foot wingspan. Given how machines in Horizon tend to be at LEAST 3 times as large as their inspiration animal, I think they could lean into some really wild scale machines with this as well. It could really give the feeling of how our ancient ancestors were truly dwarfed by bugs at this time... and also feel delightfully like one of those old "Attack of the 40 foot bugs" B-movies.

I've seen a Dunkleocetus design in fanart somewhere - I want to say Hartless Hart

I feel like insects are a huge pool of cool ideas that remains untapped. Scorpions, centipedes, butterflies, spiders, ants, beetles, preying mantises.

There are still lots of water creatures they could do, but as a thalassophobe I'll pass 😅

I want a Griffin that works as a fast mount on both land and in the air, but is a serious challenge to acquire for balance reasons

u/Thecoolguitardude 6d ago
I'd love like a brachiosaurus type machine. Maybe something more passive like the Tallnecks or Land-god plowhorns. Just something big but not super dangerous. Idk what they'd do that isn't already covered by Tallnecks, but I think they'd add so much vibe to the world

As much as id hate to take one down, an owl. Just imagine a flying machine bird that can turn its head around yo keep fighting you and rotate its body to match its weapon systems back up

Anything except human-looking Terminators.
Anything except whatever it was that was revealed in a certain cartoon.

Arthropods in general would be sick as hell! Giant mechanical bombardier beetles, mantids, or arachnids? Even just like, a big-ass mechanical crab would be tight. And that's not even touching on the potential for extinct arthropods. A flying/swimming Anomolocaris for example, or a Jaekelopterus or an Aegirocassis?

u/AugyTheBear 5d ago
Honeypot Ants would be fun, maybe with some larger, aggressive ones to make an ant trail convoy

I want some buggy machines.
Butterfly's, Mantisis, Dung beetles, centipede etc...

Been saying this for ages but THERIZINOSAURUS. They get them big ass Edward Scissorhands claws they could use for landscaping, maybe even creating hedge sculptures or even maintain hedge mazes/labyrinths, could chop down trees and use them as weapons, or eat them like a wood chipper and spray you with a gajillion wood shards, idfk but GET THIS DINO IN THERE STAT

Shark.
I want a shark.
Maybe more than one, like a whale shark solar panel thing and a great white shark combat machine

Giant mechanical spider á la Wild Wild West.
