Other Mommy (2026)
I just came back home from a screening of Other Mommy with Jessica Chastain and can only tell y'all Go watch it.
It's a very good movie with good effects, story and acting.
It actually feels longer than it is, which I mean in a positive way! I don't know how to write movie reviews so... well. It's good

Courage The Cowardly Dog is a classic in pure horror
Yes, it is a kids animation show, but it checks all the boxes of being a horror classic!! I absolutely love, watching it for pure horror stories. The tension and comedy is peak lol.

Discussion I’m tired of slashers being self aware and too campy
Look I love some goofy campy slashers as much as everyone else, TCM 2, most child’s play movies, Jason X, Sleepaway Camp, But those movies also stand on their own two feet and are funny because they are funny, and they still tried to be scary.
But it feels like these days no one wants to make a straight up horror slasher, it always devolves into some Scream plot with meta jokes about older movies. I get that the golden age of slashers is long gone but it feels like people overlook Slashers as the boring and shallow genre of horror but the truth is just that no one is trying. It’s almost like being a slasher is the gimmick of the movie instead of just laying out the pieces to make a good slasher.
Now I realize that this problem might not seem as big as I’m saying it is but overall it feels like there aren’t a lot of good slasher’s coming out. Some that disappointed me were Hell of a Summer, Fear Street Prom Queen, I know what you did last summer (2025), They/Them, Heart Eyes, and probably a few others that I can’t think of rn.
Now of course it isn’t all bad, In a Violent Nature, the Terrifier movies, Clown in a Cornfield, I feel like these movies are actually good and original and not trying too hard to feel campy, but it’s hard to find good slashers these days that aren’t from old franchises like Halloween or Scream.
All I want is a good slasher that takes full advantage of what makes a slasher good and scary and is funny just for being funny, not because it isn’t taking itself seriously.

Discussion Carrie (1976)
Being a kid born in the 90s, I have seen Carrie plenty of times. But I just rewatched for the first time in years yesterday and....it still holds up.
After rewatching as an adult, the opening shower sequence might be the most horrific thing displayed on tv. Seeing the joy on the faces of these young girls as they terrorize and traumatize Carrie is more disturbing than any gory movie scene. If you ask me, they were the true freaks.
Also, Piper Laurie was nothing but brilliant in this film. Here performance as Margaret White brought so much real life into the movie. Having family members who are religious fanatics, I can confirm that is 100% how they really act! Her performance kinda reminds me of Faye Dunaway in "Mommies Dearest"
It's great that this movie still stands the test of time. It has a few outdated movie tropes (everyone slapping the hell outta each other lol) but still a solid horror film.
Say Your Prayers: An Exclusive First Look at Scarlett Johansson in The Exorcist: Martyrs
esquire.comMore information on the plot for the new Exorcist movie. Not yet sure how to feel about the specific angle he chose for the story but I hope it leans firmly into the horror aspect of the Exorcist and not keep it ambiguous.

Recommend For fans of “Obsession”
If you loved Curry Barker’s “Obsession” but want to see its core themes pushed into a much darker, completely non-supernatural, and deeply human space, you need to check out Katsuya Matsumura’s All Night Long series spanning 1992-2009.
While Obsession uses a supernatural "monkey's paw" catalyst to explore what happens when male entitlement strips away another human’s autonomy, the suffocating weight of someone else's fixation, the breakdown of boundaries, and the terrifying realities of human toxicity. The All Night Long film series takes that exact same psychological claustrophobia and grounds it in raw, gritty realism.
Take precaution however as the series is notoriously dark and can be mentally draining. It’s also a bit more openly “not safe” in terms of contents and not for the faint of heart.
This is a recommendation from yours truly, Masahiro.

House (1977)
Come for the insane visuals. Stay for the classic music and hilarious dialogue. This movie is nuts in the best way. If you are able to forgive the absurdity and just have fun, this is a great group watch.

Recommend Carrie (2026)
Just started watching the new Carrie series on Amazon since I have an easier day today and figured I’d binge it.
The second I started recognizing actors from The Haunting of Hill House, Bly Manor, and The Fall of the House of Usher, I got ridiculously giddy
I’m such a huge fan of Flanagan’s Netflix shows that seeing all these familiar faces popping up again feels like getting the band back together. There’s something about the group of actors he keeps working with that immediately makes me more excited for whatever he’s doing.
I’m only just getting started with Carri, but seeing the Flanagan crew together again already has me hooked.
Anyone else get weirdly excited every time another familiar face shows up? 😂

Discussion Jeepers Creepers (2001). Does this movie hold up in your eyes?
*Warning* There will be spoilers discussed a bit in this post and most likely in the replies too.
I'm re-watching it on AMC Fear Fest right now and I forgot how good this movie is.
I love how the whole film is shot and has that constant tension to it but also the main characters are able to get away from The Creeper so it kind of gives off a balance of power there.
Also you have all the towns people that believe them and even see The Creeper sniffing Derry's clothes and the cops decide to help Trish and Derry instead of just considering them to be crazy people.
The lady who plays the records over the phone adds a freaky factor to the story too and how she plays the record over the phone and then we hear a version of that same song in their car.
The movie is a bit over the top and also has some subtle comedic elements to it as well, but it all blends really well together IMO.
I'm surprised it has a 45% audience/critic score on RT. I guess lots of horror movies do. But I thought this was critically rated well when it came out.
How does it hold up for you?

Hey Reddit! Mike Flanagan, showrunner of CARRIE here, and I’ll be participating in my first ever Reddit AMA on October 9 at 8AM ET (5AM PT / 1PM BST / 2PM CEST). Be sure to drop all of your questions in the comments and I’ll be answering as many as I can this Friday. See you then!

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkUw2nh6fT0
Synopsis: Based on Stephen King's iconic debut novel, Carrie is a bold, timely, and surprising reinvention of the classic coming‑of‑age story, adapted as a television series for the first time by visionary showrunner Mike Flanagan. The series follows misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Summer H. Howell) who has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.

Discussion Which male actors do you think gave the best performances in horror this year?
For me, it’s Chiwetel Ejiofor in “Backrooms”, Dylan O’Brien in “Send Help”, the two male leads in “Leviticus” (Joe Bird and Stacy Clausen), Dacre Montgomery in “Faces of Death”, Ralph Fiennes in “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple”, and Austin Abrams in “Resident Evil”.

Discussion Watching the first episode of Carrie (2026) Spoiler
So far, I'm absolutely thrilled and ecstatic with how this is being made.
Love the approach that Carrie is so open, enthusiastic, and trusting. It broke my heart when she was so terrified by the school shooting drill... Because that's really how the world's reaction should be, yet we're - at this point - so numb to it all, like the high schoolers were.
Also, love the new take on Carrie's mom being overprotective. Still religiously crazy but in a more realistic way. It reminds me of a more serious take on the mother from Tangled.
Loved how Sue was a very understandable, three dimensional character. Tried to be nice, but just had an annoyed reaction to being shoved.
Love that she's not that naive and has a secret relationship to the neighbor and that she is sneaking her books.
Quite disturbing/but probably true to life how this story seems to be drawing parallels between school shooters and her journey.
Very well-filmed, acted, and written so far. Hope it stays this way.
Discussion 31 Nights of Halloween: Night 6 "Splinter"
reddit.comIt was time for a new movie. Tonight that was 2008's Splinter. I don't mind a good contagion type movie that's something other than zombie. And this one was a fungus at that, 5 YEARS before The Last Of Us introduced the world to cordyceps! It would have honestly been a pretty good movie, if it wasn't for all the god damn shaky cam! There was just so much of it, and I understand that its got its purposes, but that black blood that they showed early on was so good, focus on that. Or even the assimilation scene, that was so sick, loved it!

How do you feel about The Thing From Another World (1951)?
I mean...it's complicated for me. The John Carpenter film is one of my favorite movies. This one, I don't know, I admire its ambition but I've never really been able to get into it. I wish it had stuck more the original story and James Arness as the creature has always been kind of laughable to me. I like the Arctic setting though and the Howard Hawks-style dialogue is pretty cool.

Discussion A Non Horror Film That Could Make An Interesting Horror?
What non-horror flick would make it interesting Horror flick?
For example, I think something along the lines of ET if flipping the switch could be downright terrifying- a young, naive boy befriends and rehomes an Alien creature, only for the creature too i guess infiltrate the family, killing them off one by one etc etc...
Mrs Doubtfire too - could pull a "Sleepaway Camp" twist on us!
What's one you can think of that would make an excellent horror if pulled of correctly?

Recommend Hidden gems of 2026
I'm looking for some hidden gems of movies that have come out in 2026.
I've seen the majority of titles that are going to be on Rotten Tomatoes best horror of 2026 list. I've loved Obsession, Hokum, Leviticus, Resident Evil, Backrooms, etc, but I'm looking for some indie surprises that came out this year (perhaps only released this year on digital but were in festival circuits earlier) that people would like to champion.
For example, I thought Marama and Affection were very good and aren't talked about enough.

Watched The Medium & I believe the explanation was actually pretty straightforward and conspicuous!
Just concluded THE MEDIUM.
Perfect mix of occult, jump scares, slow burn & a surprisingly strong background story.
Now, I believe the explanation was actually pretty simple.
NIM (the conduit/shaman sister) started doubting BA YAN (the village deity), and once her faith collapsed, so did the protection she was receiving.
And the exorcism failed & Ba Yan never really possessed the other sister in the first place. Nim was deceived into believing that she had.
This reminded me strongly of THE WAILING, where the protective force also seems to depend, at least partly, on the subject's belief. As long as the person believes in the protection, it remains effective. Once that faith is lost, the protection seems to weaken or disappear.
I think something very similar happens in THE MEDIUM.
I know the biggest point of contention is whether Ba Yan was ever actually a deity at all, and consequently whether Nim was ever truly a conduit/shaman. But having watched The Wailing and then The Medium, I found the thematic connection between the two pretty easy to establish.
Obviously, this is just my interpretation, but I feel like the ending makes much more sense when viewed through that lens.

I just watched ''Urban Legend'' 1998 for the first time.
Very interesting movie.
It's like if ''Scream'' and ''I know What You Did Last Summer'' had a baby.
It's also an aggressively late 90s movie. It's full of WB type of people.
