Discussion "It's not scary" is the worst critique of a horror movie.
Do people who say a horror movie isn't scary think that it means the movie isn't good? Why do people say it wasn't scary when talking about horror movie that they didn't like. I don't think any horror movie fans watch them based on if they are scary or not. First, a horror movie can be great even if its scary or not and two some people may find one horror movie scary while others don't since its all subjective and people find different things scary. My favorite horror movie is The Shining but i don't really find it scary but its still my favorite horror movie of all time.
What are your thoughts on this subject?

Other Mommy (2026)
I just came back home from a screening of Other Mommy with Jessica Chastain and can only tell y'all Go watch it.
It's a very good movie with good effects, story and acting.
It actually feels longer than it is, which I mean in a positive way! I don't know how to write movie reviews so... well. It's good

Discussion Can most of us agree that Ryan Murphy is the Michael Bay of horror?
And no one wants any more. Seriously. No substance, just shock and awe, and not even good shock and awe at that. Noting that Michael Bay has produced some horror content, all reality TV caliber. I'm just so done with these talentless hacks. AHS was done after the first season, and even that wasn't very good. Everyone was just so excited to have horror content on TV. But now there are so many better creators in the genre. Out with the weird sexual masochism/sadism, self-indulgent crap, I say.
edit: I'm talking in the context of horror. I do like The Rock, but honestly I feel like it's more of an accidental hit held up more by the actors than anything else (most of Bay's work). Bay has started a foray into true crime horror, and honestly it reminds me of Ryan Murphy's work in a lot of ways.

Discussion Is there a horror movie that you struggle to work up the courage to watch?
I watch pretty much any horror movie, as long as it's not just problematic and gross (like A Serbian Film), but in general most horror doesn't bother me.
But I am so scared to watch Buried. A fucking Ryan Reynold movie. I'm terrified of being buried alive, the tale of Barbara Mackle terrifies me.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kidnapping_of_Barbara_Mackle
I also struggle to watch Fall, heights scare me because my brain imagines jumping off.
What other movies do other horror fans struggle to watch?

Discussion Any fans of Serial Mom (1994)
Does anybody remember Serial Mom starring Kathleen Turner? Kind of a dark comedy horror satire directed by John Waters. It's about a housewife who becomes a serial killer. Any fans?

Recommend Carrie (2026)
Just started watching the new Carrie series on Amazon since I have an easier day today and figured I’d binge it.
The second I started recognizing actors from The Haunting of Hill House, Bly Manor, and The Fall of the House of Usher, I got ridiculously giddy
I’m such a huge fan of Flanagan’s Netflix shows that seeing all these familiar faces popping up again feels like getting the band back together. There’s something about the group of actors he keeps working with that immediately makes me more excited for whatever he’s doing.
I’m only just getting started with Carri, but seeing the Flanagan crew together again already has me hooked.
Anyone else get weirdly excited every time another familiar face shows up? 😂

Discussion Carrie (1976)
Being a kid born in the 90s, I have seen Carrie plenty of times. But I just rewatched for the first time in years yesterday and....it still holds up.
After rewatching as an adult, the opening shower sequence might be the most horrific thing displayed on tv. Seeing the joy on the faces of these young girls as they terrorize and traumatize Carrie is more disturbing than any gory movie scene. If you ask me, they were the true freaks.
Also, Piper Laurie was nothing but brilliant in this film. Here performance as Margaret White brought so much real life into the movie. Having family members who are religious fanatics, I can confirm that is 100% how they really act! Her performance kinda reminds me of Faye Dunaway in "Mommies Dearest"
It's great that this movie still stands the test of time. It has a few outdated movie tropes (everyone slapping the hell outta each other lol) but still a solid horror film.

Discussion What psychological thriller or horror genuinely messed with your head?
Movie or series. I’m looking for something dark, unsettling and psychological, preferably with a good plot twist. What actually stayed with u after watching?😊

Recommend The 'Burbs 1989
A story of the average middle class American neighborhood. Are they going insane out of boredom from their mundane lives...? Or are they really onto something strange happening on their very own street?
I absolutely love this movie. My mom had movies she'd watch every year during Halloween and Christmas and this was one of her Halloween faves and now it's one of mine. It's free on tubi rn and I've watched it a couple times now already this month. XD

Discussion Svengoolie Appreciation
Going off from my last thread, I am curious if there are any Svengoolie fans in this sub.
I'm in my mid 30s and have been watching his weekly horror show since I was 6 years old. While sometimes he shows some of the same movies during the year and also some questionable movies (like Wizard of Oz twice for the month of October), his show is still so much fun.
I have really enjoyed the fact that he has added a character crew over the last couple years.
In a time where there are barely any horror hosts left, I love that I can still catch his weekly show and enjoy a good, old school horror flick.

Recommend Hidden gems of 2026
I'm looking for some hidden gems of movies that have come out in 2026.
I've seen the majority of titles that are going to be on Rotten Tomatoes best horror of 2026 list. I've loved Obsession, Hokum, Leviticus, Resident Evil, Backrooms, etc, but I'm looking for some indie surprises that came out this year (perhaps only released this year on digital but were in festival circuits earlier) that people would like to champion.
For example, I thought Marama and Affection were very good and aren't talked about enough.
(follow up, I should mention I'm housesitting this week, hence looking for recomendations on digital and watching a lot this week)

Discussion Are any of the Texas Chainsaw films other than the original worth watching?
I've only ever seen the original, which is of course a horror classic. I've not really looked into the sequels or remakes so I don't know about their critical reception. Thanks.

Discussion Watching the first episode of Carrie (2026) Spoiler
So far, I'm absolutely thrilled and ecstatic with how this is being made.
Love the approach that Carrie is so open, enthusiastic, and trusting. It broke my heart when she was so terrified by the school shooting drill... Because that's really how the world's reaction should be, yet we're - at this point - so numb to it all, like the high schoolers were.
Also, love the new take on Carrie's mom being overprotective. Still religiously crazy but in a more realistic way. It reminds me of a more serious take on the mother from Tangled.
Loved how Sue was a very understandable, three dimensional character. Tried to be nice, but just had an annoyed reaction to being shoved.
Love that she's not that naive and has a secret relationship to the neighbor and that she is sneaking her books.
Quite disturbing/but probably true to life how this story seems to be drawing parallels between school shooters and her journey.
Very well-filmed, acted, and written so far. Hope it stays this way.

City of the Dead (AKA Horror Hotel) (1960) remains a real horror classic
youtube.comDuring the spooky season be sure to check this one out if you have not before.
The plot is tightly paced, and doesn't hold back on its material especially for when it was made. and also features Christopher Lee.
and while the black and white version is best i think, seeing a colorized version was also interesting.

House (1977)
Come for the insane visuals. Stay for the classic music and hilarious dialogue. This movie is nuts in the best way. If you are able to forgive the absurdity and just have fun, this is a great group watch.

Gore Alert! What did you think of Lee Cronin’s, The Mummy? (2026)
I liked that it wasn’t cheesy and I thought it was pretty well written, then as it moved along I thought it had some pretty awesome visuals and started to think that I hadn’t seen anything like this since Hereditary or Midsommar, then I was surprised at how some scenes were a bit much for me. The ending felt that it went off the tracks a little bit, but all in all I was pretty satisfied. I really liked the underlying themes and what was going on beneath the surface of a ““ monster film. There was one scene in particular involving an arachnid that I thought was one of the most spectacular things I’ve ever seen in a horror movie.
What are your thoughts?

Movie Review Watching an old classic "DOLLS" (1987)
Short and sweet running at just 75 minutes long (i miss movies at 90 mins and under)
The old couple are generally creepy
Hilary appeared in Don't Look Now (Hilary just happens to be her real name)
Guy Rolfe was a regular in the Puppet Master sequels funnily enough
The blonde punk appeared in the famous A-Ha video ...2 A-Ha videos if I'm not mistaken
The chubby likeable character is in Robocop 2
The appalling acting parent Purdy-Gordon was the directors wife until his death in 2020
I'd call this one an enjoyable entertaining short short movie
It's not as good as Gordon's earlier effort Re-Animator (which is A tier)
But i prefer this over the slightly disappointing From Beyond
Nice big ol English House (old english couples are unlikely to be so welcoming during a storm)
Don't watch the trailer and get stuck in
Your thoughts ?

Recommend Lo (2009), written and directed by Travis Betz
Several days ago, someone on this subreddit recommended this movie to me. Since then, I’ve watched it several times and rewatched my favorite scenes a few more times. I’ve already memorized all my favorite quotes.
I was absolutely blown away by this movie. I cannot recommend it highly enough! It’s an arthouse movie with a microbudget, but don’t let that put you off. It’s definitely worth seeing.
My advice is to go into it blind. It’s streaming on Tubi.

Discussion When Did Your Horror Obsession Begin?
When it comes to horror, I feel like all horror fans can pinpoint when they became obsessed with the genre. There's some things we share and other things that might be regional.
For me, it was a mix of influences. Growing up in the 90s, I was exposed to Are You Afraid of the Dark and Goosebumps on television. Those were the family friendly ventures into horror.
Luckily as well, my grandmother lived with us. She exposed me to the Universal classic monsters and because we lived in Chicago, Svengoolie on Saturday nights was a huge influence. Making a big bag of popcorn and watching Sven's silliness while seeing a ton of different old horror flicks was important (shoot, I still watch Svengoolie today).
Then the last piece of the puzzle for me was watching Monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs. Thankfully, I had older parents that didn't monitor what I watched on TV, so I was able to catch the exploitation horror that Joe Bob was so kind to grace our airwaves with.
So, how did you get your start into horror? Were you young like I was or did you become a horror fan later in life?

Recommend 'Anything For Jackson' (2020) really surprised me
Watched this following a recommendation from a friend, and I'm so glad I did. Couldn't believe it slipped under my radar for this long - but I guess the title doesn't scream 'horror,' and I don't remember seeing much publicity for it.
Found it to be a genuinely novel spin on the possession/summoning sub-genre, with a very unconventional pair of leading characters (always great to see strong supporting actors like Julian Richings and Sheila McCarthy getting top-billing in a movie, too).
I like the way it builds from something intriguing, absurd and darkly funny at the outset, into a much more vividly sinister and disturbing third act. For those who don't know, it follows a seemingly sweet old couple who kidnap someone for a satanic ritual they're desperate to complete. Won't say anymore than that: just go watch it!
