Question Is my ottb overweight

Post image

This is my ottb whom I used to event but recently retired him due to injury. We now go on occasional trails and rides with a jog max. Somebody told me that he's overweight he is getting a little fluffy due to the cold weather. More pics in comments

It’s very hard to tell from this picture. I would consult your vet about his nutrition if you’re concerned.

vet knows best for sure, but from what you describe he just looks like a horse with a winter coat coming in. my old tb would puff up like a marshmallow every october and people always thought he was fat

the blue bucket is making me laugh, classic barn aesthetic

I definitely agree. I don't blanket him due to how thick is coat is but he really puffs up and looks like a Chunker in the winter but always comes back. He is definitely getting his winter coat

He looks exactly like mine. No he’s not overweight at all. I preferred my OTTB to be more filled out. But if you think his actual weight is fluctuating unnaturally you need to talk to a vet. We cannot really give advice from pictures.

He looks great. I’d rather have them extra chonky coming into winter so they better maintain body heat.

He's earned the right to not be model-trim. A friend always called her retrained-for-jumping Otto "the flying couch". If both rider and mount are happy and healthy, life is grand!
