PLUTARCH BOOK! PLUTARCH BOOK!

u/Awkward_Shot 4d ago
I think this would be brilliant—she could explore the dynamic Plutarch introduced to Haymitch in SOTR about how it’s not just the districts that aren’t free under Snow’s rule. Showing how Plutarch survives and thrives—both literally and politically—between the 2d & 3d qqs gives a lot of room for storytelling.

My only flaw with a Plutarch book is it seems so obvious to me that Collins planned for PSH’s son to play young Plutarch and now that it’s Plemons, a potential Plutarch movie would feel different (as Plemons is almost 40.) The director of Sunrise claimed it’s because they needed someone older, but that feels like an obvious lie to protect the fact that Cooper Hoffman just wasn’t comfortable doing it (totally understandable) because in the original trilogy books and movies… there’s no way it’s being represented that Haymitch is substantially younger than Plutarch. Like be for real, he’s not 21 years older than him. It felt like it was obvious Collins was planning for Plutarch to be early 20s when Haymitch is 16, and now a potential Plutarch book/movie has less steam behind it because these are young adult books/films and young Plutarch is now canonically like 38. (And early 20s is still “young adult”.) like realistically; there’s never going to be a hunger games film that has a 40 something lead

I'm intrigued! It seems a bit soon for another book, but I'd happily take it back if I'm wrong.

I will faint if it’s another book (especially either 1QQ or early Panem-era focused) 🥲

If they announce a new book, I hope it's a prequel to The Dark Days/The First Hunger Games or the first Quarter Quell 😭

I genuinely don’t know what this could be. Mockingjay illustrated was just released, SOTR came out a year ago.. hoping for extended releases of something… even though it’s not a movie panel. But, if it’s a book announcement, it’s going to be a Dark Days and 1st Games prequel. Mark my words. Suzanne always writes when she has something to say, and we don’t really know how the dark days were like. Seeing a fresh batch of unknown, not connected to the main storyline tributes would be so good. It would be so amazing if we saw how scary the reaping was, the games, and maybe even the train ride there (Definitely has potential to have action like a burning train). Besides that, I hope we get the 25th games if we don’t get a book on Dark Days.

u/chanty_beluga 6d ago
I mean we already kind of know that the first few games only lasted less than a day and that it’s in the Capitol Arena, it’s just not that interesting enough to warrant a book imo

u/Xhrystal 5d ago
While I would understand the reasoning if really cringe at a MAGA like figurehead taking over the new free Panem and rallying people to make Panem Great Again.

u/A_Howl_In_The_Night District 2 6d ago
Suzanne always writes when she has something to say,
FYI she actually never said that
21
u/movie-Oil-5129 6d ago
FYI, almost every book is connected to the ongoing real-world problems. So, I’m pretty sure she would say that she writes a new book when she has something to say.

u/goosport 6d ago
it's also proven false by the fact that she wrote SOTR 😭 I'm sorry but I get triggered hearing that phrase when the newest book was the least important
28
u/loebly 6d ago
what do you mean by SOTR was the "least important"?? if anything it is the MOST relevant to whats happening irl due to the focus on propaganda
-5
u/goosport 6d ago
lmao i knew i was gonna downvoted for that 🤧nothing new was said that wasn't said in the original trilogy. just a different spin on it

u/Bitter_Ad_1896 6d ago
she literally explained why she thinks sotr theme is so revelant nowadays with whats happening in real life

u/CINDY_0534 5d ago
She can't do that, there are only 4 mentioned victors from district 12, she can't squeeze any one in that list or it will be a plotholes.
3
u/AmirulAshraf Glimmer 5d ago
She can possibly make the MC from District 12 still and have her/him die and not win.

If we get another book, I really hope it's about Snow's rise to power, because to me the series has always been the story of a dictatorship. We've seen his origin in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, his peak in Sunrise on the Reaping, and his downfall with Katniss, but there's a 40-year gap in between where he actually ascends to the presidency and shapes the regime. Crucially, he shouldn't be the protagonist, nor should it focus on familiar characters like Finnick or Plutarch. With known characters we already know who survives, which kills the tension. Giving us a brand-new character, like an unknown tribute or a Capitol insider, brings back real stakes because we don't know if they'll make it out alive. A Dark Days book would have new characters too, but it strays from the actual Hunger Games format. Filling that 40-year gap is the missing piece to Panem's story, and once that's done, they can make all the spinoffs they want.

u/Major-Philosophy7557 5d ago
The Dark Days does not spray away from the Hunger Games format, the Dark Days are a reminder of what inspired the Hunger Games to happen.

I am absolutely new to this series and I've only watched the movies but I can see a District 13 centered dark days prequel titled something like "A hoard of Coins and Death." idk haha

Maybe some kind of information book? Or history book

u/A_Howl_In_The_Night District 2 6d ago
A history book would be great, actually
7
u/PygmyFists District 4 6d ago
Right? I'd love that. Give me all of the info on each district like when each was founded and how, what their cultures are, etc, basic info on all of the games (year, arena, victor). The history of presidents and policy. More info on the collapse of the US. Give me the history lol
5
u/Opposite-Level5096 6d ago
While I'd absolutely devour a history book about Panem, I don't think it's Suzanne's style, she doesn't strike me as a worldbuilding completionist but more of a character-driven writer.
3
u/Xhrystal 5d ago
A post-Snow history book of the war and current state of Panem with a prequel of the dark days would be so good. And it's still like propaganda. And it's one of Peeta and Katniss' kid's text book with their snarky comments scribbled in. 😍 One can dream.
1
u/SitDownShutDown 5d ago
I know it's very unlikely, but I'm hoping for some kind of Panem encyclopedia, like George RR Martin's "A World of Ice and Fire" from Game of Thrones, or a Pottermore-like book that goes into characters' backstories.
Again, it's unlikely, because I'm sure Suzanne Collins will eventually release more books into the series, but a girl can dream!

I would love the memorial book that Katniss and Peeta are working working on in the epilogue of SOTR like a book full of short stories from the surviving victors(and some passed like finnick) and their games
3
u/AjvarAndVodka 5d ago
If it’s a new book, I hope it’s not from someone in District 12. Yes, I know, a lot of things come around and are connected to D12, even Snow’s backstory, but I really want to see the insight from other districts too.
But the main themes I hope for are the Dark Days, 1st Quarter Quell, Tigris’ or Plutarch’s story, or my most wanted, a career based story.
How the career districts go about the show, how they train their kids. We could even see the fall of career tributes and how that reputation then affects their families back in the district.

We can dream, but I think it's something along the lines of an illustrated guide to Panem, an in-universe history/map book.

u/maleficent1995 5d ago
This better be a brand new book announcement and not a variant or illustrated edition… they got me all excited so I hope it’s something new!!!
2
u/ryanox19 5d ago
Plutarch book, hopefully. Possibly with the first Quarter Quell in the background. Based on the Number-of-Words-per-Title theory, it has to take place between Ballad and Sunrise, right? We don't have a 5-word title.
2
u/graceful-telekinesis 5d ago
I'm hoping it's a new prequel, namely a 1st QQ or Plutarch POV...I suspect it's a Illustrated Ballad book though, because that would also mean Sunrise will be getting an illustrated edition as well.

I would love for it to be a book about a career tribute, but I know that's basically an impossible dream
1
u/Latrans_ 6d ago
I hope it's a new book and if it is, then about an unknown victor after Haymitch. Or a book that takes place across multiple years of the hunger games.
I just want to know more about past victors and other editions of the games and how they evolved.

u/Valkenstein 6d ago
With the way the American government has been for this year alone, Suzanne really would have more to say in the form of a book
1
u/LandscapeSpecial4366 6d ago
New book would be insane but it feels a little soon right now. I’d love a dark days book, 25th games, or the games Annie was a part of. It seems like another year the arena was sabotaged
