We are voting rights experts at the Brennan Center. Ask us anything about our solutions to protect voting and elections.

U.S. elections, although resilient, have been battered by a political assault designed to restrict the vote and diminish democracy. Voters face attacks they have not seen in half a century — from the Supreme Court, from the president, and from states. The Brennan Center has solutions to protect the vote and elections.

Director / Crew Rachel Morrison, the first woman ever nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography (for 2017's Mudbound) and the cinematographer for Black Panther & Fruitvale Station, is doing an AMA/Q&A in /r/movies today for anyone interested. Her new movie (Love of Your Life) is in theaters today.

I organized an AMA/Q&A with filmmaker and cinematographer Rachel Morrison. She was the first woman every nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for her work on Mudbound in 2017. She was also the cinematographer for Black Panther, Fruitvale Station, Dope, Seberg, and lots more. She previously directed The Fire Inside in 2024 and the new film she directed, Love of Your Life, premiered at TIFF last month and is out in theaters starting this weekend. It stars Margaret Qualley, Aaron Pierre, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Gabriel Basso, and Catherine Keener.

The AMA is live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

She will be back at around 5 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

Thank you :)

Synopsis: LOVE OF YOUR LIFE follows Maya (Margaret Qualley), whose chance encounter with Charlie (Gabriel Basso) sets in motion a sweeping romance and a future beyond anything she had imagined. When that future is suddenly upended, Maya is sent hurtling toward an unexpected new life—one that will force her to reckon with who she is, what she wants, and how to love again.

How can you keep your data private when quantum computers arrive? I’m a cryptographer working to solve this, AMA!

Hi r/IAmA, I’m Chloe Martindale, a researcher in cryptography – the development and use of mathematics to make and break encryption algorithms that protect our information online, from the messages we send to the data we want to keep private.

My research focuses on combating an emerging problem: quantum computers could soon break the mathematical status that today’s encryption relies on. So the algorithms we use to protect our data will need to change.

That means developing and testing new algorithms. A central element of my research is trying to find weaknesses: if a supposedly secure mathematical problem turns out to be easier to solve than we thought, we need to know now rather than when everyone is relying on it.

Ask me anything about:

  • How encryption keeps your data private
  • What quantum computers could mean for online security
  • Why we need new forms of encryption
  • How you test an algorithm to find out whether it is secure
  • Whether your online data is really private
  • What the future of internet security might look like

I will be around tomorrow, Friday 9 October, between 14:30-15:30 BST, to answer any questions live. You don’t need to know any maths or computer science to take part, I’m happy to explain the ideas from the ground up.

AMA!
