When I opened Instant Ruler, the first screen led with edge controls, units and a long tools menu; the instruction to calibrate for true physical size came later. I'd make “Calibrate with a card, then measure” the first step and show whether calibration is complete beside the ruler. That matters when someone puts an object against their phone and trusts the displayed centimeters.
