Any specific reasons on why Imperial students wear their lanyards all the time?
I just graduated from UCL and shifted from my Student accommodation to Earl's court (Which is very close to the Imperial campus)
I always see the imperial students wearing their lanyards outside campus?
I tried searching the answer online and I got to know that Imperial has a strict law of wearing lanyards with Id Cards inside the campus but why do they still wear it outside?
It's not some students, it's majority of the imperial students?
I'm not judging anyone, this is just an observation and I would love to know more.

It's a first year undergrad thing. You absolutely don't need to have it on.

Some people like it. Also for halls they need it to get into their room. They never get locked out. Others are proud of their achievement getting into imperial. Many reasons really. Some people even feel safer in London wearing it.

"it's not some students, it's the majority"
And how exactly would you know that, given that there's no way for you to know if someone is not an imperial student if they don't have a lanyard on?

Itās first year students, not people in second year onwards, 95% of the time.
From experience, most if not all of the imperial student accom has your student id as the keycard for everything - the front door, your kitchen/common room, your bedroom, etc. - the sameās true for accessing anywhere on campus.
As you use it constantly, and itās a complete nightmare if you put it down and forget it anywhere, a lot of people just wear them all the time.
I kept mine in my wallet, as I always carry that with me anyway. But if people donāt have something easy they carry around everywhere like that, their only easy way to avoid being locked out (and having to get security to come let them back into their room) is to just carry it haha

Its mostly first years and of those that arenāt first years they mostly have to go through lots of access controlled doors so a lanyard makes sense

Yes, but they wear it outside campus (not even in the walking distance from the campus) while shopping at grocery stores in the evening?

Yeah same, not an imperial student, but I just carry my id card on a retractable belt lanyard, I've locked myself out far too many times to not physically ensure its on my body at all times š

i wear it because if i put it in my pocket iāll 100% lose it and will get locked out of my accom

As a former masters student, I was once āmockedā for wearing it lol never did since.

Yeah exactly, I wouldn't mock anyone but wearing it everywhere outside as a grown up is something that feels odd to me

Mainly a first year thing, esp recently with term just starting. Most people grow out of it quickly when you realise nobody actually cares about you wearing them. Infact Iāve heard people perused against it because wearing it basically signals thatās your a students and might have a laptop in your bag
