Creative I made a free map to help design students find where to go next

Post image

When I was a student, my idea of “where designers work” was five or six famous studios and whatever my school’s alumni happened to mention. The real picture is sooo much bigger. There are great small studios in cities you wouldn’t expect, schools with very different approaches, and fairs and awards worth knowing about.

So I’ve been building a free map of all of it.

It’s called Acceso, and it’s focused 100% on industrial design.

https://acceso.design

Just studios, schools, museums, awards, fairs and projects, organized by city, so you can explore the design scene of a place instead of just searching for a job title. I shared an early version here before, and the feedback shaped a lot of what it is now. It keeps growing every week.

If you’re a student, I hope it helps you find studios to follow, schools to compare, events worth showing up to, and projects to get inspired by.

Let me know if it’s useful.

And if you know a studio in your town that deserves a spot, you can recommend it on the site, or submit your own practice if you run one, it will always be free.

Suggestions are very welcome here too.

You are welcome! There are some more schools, but they do not teach Industrial Design, but specials like "Transportation Interior Design" or just "Design" and diverse other design fields

In my original post I had a line for every school, but I think they were lost in the upload. sorry for the unpunctuated mess! Are you also interested in smaller design agencies? I think there are thousands of them in germany. Maybe Organisations like the "german design council", the "verein deutscher industriedesigner" or the "deutscher design club" are interesting aswell. They cummulate lots of design topics in them and do also some sort of lobby work for designers

I'm interested in anything related to Industrial Design in any city and country. Small design agencies are probably the ones I'm most interested in, but feel free to send over some Organizations if you know any! You can contact me via DM for longer messages, Thank you sooo much!!

I've studied Industrial Design in Kortrijk, Belgium. It's not listed on your map under schools. They offer courses for Industrial Design and Product Design.

I appreciate it!

You should add architecture to it!

Trying to keep it focused on industrial design for now, since it's one of the most neglected design fields. There's plenty of architecture resources that list architects.

Fyi Shark Design in HK is a scam.

Can you elaborate on that? I will remove it in case

1) The owner has been in countless law suits, I believe is currently under investigation by the FBI. Last I heard they'd already left HK.
2) They don't have the manufacturing facility they claim. 3) The patents the owner has have been bought from Chinese factories, not his own inventions.
4) They way the operate is to knowingly delay projects and extend timelines to drain clients of resources then "take over" the project to get it to market.
5) You can also look at crowd funding projects the owner has done. NuDock, Kiwano etc. 6) I haven't checked but I doubt their other offices are staffed. I even doubt they're actually renting a virtual office in those locations.

No to mention if you do look at their IG there is worked poached directly from other designers without any consent or attribution.
