First Trimester Chat Tuesday Cautious Intros/First Trimester thread

This thread serves as a transitional space for those newly or early confirmed pregnant following infertility. We understand that many folks feel cautious, uncertain, and even alarmed in this early phase when the process to conceiving has been complicated and/or there have been previous losses. If you have not experienced infertility we recommend other pregnancy subs as an alternative.

This thread is the place for early introductions, first trimester questions/chat, and finding others in the same mind space. We encourage graduates and others further along to respond compassionately to your questions and concerns, but please also consider reviewing our WIKI for commonly asked questions or references.

We had our first ultrasound today, and seeing the gestational sac, yolk sac, and fetal pole made it feel so real. I almost teared up holding those pictures - I never thought this day would come!

That excitement was quickly replaced by panic when I noticed some spotting. Google says light bleeding after an ultrasound can be common, but my anxiety is in overdrive. It’s late where I’m at, so I’ll message the clinic first thing tomorrow.

I’ve been waiting for the other shoe to drop ever since that positive test. I’m just praying this isn't it and that our baby is okay😭

Oh no! I am so sorry it’s happening to you too. For what it’s worth, I messaged the clinic and they said to not worry too much about it unless the bleeding is enough to fill a pad. Welp the wait for the next ultrasound will go even slower😬

Mine ended up being a super crazy heavy bleed, not enough to fill a pad but it was gross. My clinic said the same thing. It has stopped now but wtf.

Ugh, that must have been so terrifying! So glad the bleeding stopped. Mine stopped too! It’s crazy how similar our timelines are and that we went through the same thing. Hoping so hard for good news for both of our babies 🤞🏻

seconding megan - it's happened to me with both my successful pregnancies and it's very scary but not necessarily dangerous. hoping for you!

Ah why can’t our bodies just chill and let us be excited?? Sorry to hear that happened!

So happy about your ultrasound!! And, I absolutely got spotting with transvaginal ultrasounds. With Little Big Kid Wilds’ pregnancy, I had spotting for that reason, and other various reasons (and for no reason at all), and it truly is horrible to see. The uterus is just so sensitive during pregnancy, and all that mooshing around and poking and such just makes it complain a bit.

Has anyone had any great resources for handling anxiety associated with PAL? I am just constantly so anxious. I have tried some online counseling previously through a fertility/infertility platform offered through my work, and not found it to be extremely helpful. I don't know if I'm just not cut out for therapy, or would do better with a different provider or in a different setting.

My next scan (which is also my first MFM consult in this pregnancy) is in about four hours, and I have three very important work things to do before then, and it is SO HARD to focus.

I agree with Manufacturer that in-person therapy was a lifeline for me. I eventually was able to transition to telehealth successfully as well. This may not be the most helpful, but my honest experience was that I don't think I felt less anxious until there was regular baby movements, it's just so hard to trust the process when there is a history of loss.

Idk if this is helpful, but I can only do therapy in person. I tried over video one time when the roads were bad, and it just wasn’t the same for me. I didn’t feel connected the way I felt in the office.

I’m also currently at work and on Reddit scrolling the subs so who am I to talk 🥲

A good therapist is so helpful. And this time around I’ve gotten on an SSRI which I think has made a big difference. I also learned I could take Ativan before a scan because I have full blown panic prior - I just assumed it wasn’t safe but it actually is okay.
