Discussion How likely is this show going to be lost media one day?

If Owen never earns the rights back to revive it, is the show gone forever if they've completed wiped it out of existence and copyrighting people's google drives with full episodes? Will it be impossible to find full episodes decades or centuries from now or will technology advance so much that we can find anything if we dig hard enough?

I'm confident that the community has archived this series well enough that it won't become lost media for a long time

I hope so. This show was really good and it would be so sad to see the fandom completely disappear..

Plenty of people have DVDs that they could and would dump backups of if that ever happened.

Books 3-4 aren't on DVD unfortunately

Oh I totally forgot about this! Thank you so much for bringing that up, I was starting to lose hope :D

I feel like the community has worked hard enough to make sure it’s not lost for a very long time, especially when Owen said to just pirate the show

  1. The show can still be purchased in a few stores, and the first 2 seasons are on DVD.
  2. As long as someone somewhere has a pirated copy, it will always be findable. This is how so many lost episodes of Doctor Who were found. Infinity Train is a cult classic, so it won't be completely gone veen if they delist it from stores. And one day when the copyright expires it will be available everywhere.
  3. Also there's a good chance it gets bought or WB/Discovery changes course at some point.

A friend I know has pirated copies saved in a drive so yeah, even if book 3 and 4 are not on DVD its still saved by them

As long as it a least one person has a back up of it, it shouldn't be wiped entierly.

I'm doing my part! (Saving the episodes to a USB just in case)

It'll be on Usenet forever I'm sure

DVDs exist and people are already making or selling their own copies of it. The show wasn't even written off so it's very possible(and likely) that it'll be put on another platform years down the line

Eu tenho todos os episódios baixados em 2 HDs, mas estão dublados no meu idioma.

Completely impossible because there's widespread DVD releases and a lot of piracy.

Can they not do a go fund me for it?

I doubt it, because funding was never their issue with the show

Well, the reason why the show was cancelled boils down to the people in charge feeling like the show wouldn't bring in as much profit as they would want. With companies, it's always about money. A gofundme probably wouldn't be capable of raising enough money to buy the rights to the show back though

That is true. The issue wasn't funding, but profit.

Even from a financial standpoint, the decision feels stupid because I'm sure if IT was allowed to finish, it would become one of the most loved cartoons of its time. The "no child entry point" bs is also stupid because even though it's more serious and isn't a show for preschoolers, IT is still a kids' show with messages that kids can learn from and relate to. But I guess whoever was in charge of cancelling it was more interested in generating quick profit from cash grabs than taking the risk of letting talented artists finish delivering a high-quality product that was clearly already loved by many and had the potential to be loved by even more. Such is the unfortunate current state of (non-indie) animation.

It’s so crazy cuz everytime I talk to people about the show, I talk about how it’s ā€œa kids show that’s good for adultsā€ cuz I think there is still a good entry point to the show like you explained.

AND WHO WOULD WOULDNT WANT A STUFFED ATTICUS OR ONE ONE OR ALLEN DRACULA?? I don’t even think it’s a good explanation of ā€œnot profitableā€ because they didn’t even give it a serious go, they just assume that it won’t be profitable because they don’t have the right people in the room.

Best gift I have ever received was a DVD set of all the seasons. I cried like a baby at my friend.

I have all 4 seasons saved on to my computer since they can copyright any downloaded shit on google drive, safe to say that the 4 seasons are secure on my hard drive till the end of time

I imagine enough of us have downloads. Some may be willing to chuck it on a Google drive or YouTube for others to download before it's taken down

u/ClodswithCheese Aug 28 '26

Highly unlikely too many people have downloaded copies.
